@@filterx1525 For a season, that black cloud was hanging over my head and everytime I heard this song on premiere praise radio it had me hooked.. got me on my emotional wave and had me wanting to look for reliefs even though I was keeping up with prayer and Scripture everyday. Words are witchcraft and visuals on videos are no different so I looked the video up on here and got the answer to my question. I Trust in our Lord Jesus The word 'Pessimist' has no place in the light.. We are in Spirtual warfare but God's children will not be defeated as it is already written.. Do you see... These are the end days my friend and 'Gold' isn't what I am wanting at the end of it all. God Bless you and keep you 🙏
Does any one know what the symbols/ images on the bald guys sweater mean. I’m curious and confused ? @ 3:38 there’s a good shot of the front of the sweater and at 3:04 on the sleeve of his sweater there is a skull and a bird above crossed spears I think, it’s kinda creeping me out
I am digging new tunes by y'all... but after listening to this and other new songs I'm a bit confused. Your lyrics used to be straight forward and biblical. Now it seems there are more songs on the way so that may change... but one of the reasons I fell in love with your music was deep, biblical and spiritual lyrics. Lyrics that contrasted the vague spiritual language in most CCM today. You still have that unique sound... minus the depth and boldness of the lyrics before. Will still pray y'all reach people with truth and point people to Christ... but I may pass on buying or listening to this one.
So poetry is a bad thing? Art must always be straightforward and black and white? They don't have to be a worship band to be "biblical." Nor do they need to preach with their music to make an impact on the kingdom. And lets pretend their lyrics aren't deep/spiritual anymore-you're not even going to listen to it? Don't you think you're putting yourself and other people into a box and only furthering the divide by handling things this way? It seems like you're shutting down conversations rather than opening them up. Would you handle comments on youtube the same way you handle their music? If so, you didn't list any specific biblical truth in your comment. You just had vague spiritual language in their like "biblical truth" and "spiritual lyrics" but I read nothing that specifically said Jesus died for your sins. The reason why you didn't preach the Gospel in your comment explicitly was because it's not the time or place to do it. And maybe for them, they felt like it wasn't the time or place to do that for this album either. And that could change for next album. But they have the freedom to write what they want to write and what they feel is on their hearts-just like you have the same opportunity to do with your youtube comments. I'm not going to judge you for not preaching in your comments and missing an opportunity to preach the Gospel and I feel like you shouldn't be doing that for them either. Let me know your thoughts on what I said if you get the chance to respond. I'm cool with disagreeing. Sorry if I came off a little intense or said something that bothered you-I am just passionate about this kinda stuff and just want to have a dialogue.
@@nathangrimley7329 thanks for your thoughtful reply. You obviously thought that out and made you point quite well. You state quite a bit in there and I will reply tomorrow at some time in the morning. I appreciate your point of view and it's much more than my observation which I thought about for maybe 10 minutes. I'm just debating whether to really go deep or Twitterfy it and keep it pithy. What a mystery? LOL Love ya brother and I will catch you tomorrow. Edit: misspelling.
You make some very good points and good thoughts. Here's my quick response: my only question (concern?) is after being a band with such explicitly biblical, yet deep and great lyrics have gone so vague. I don't like Citizens because they are NeedtoBreathe or Switchfoot. Those are great bands but they don't fill me spiritually. If that was their MO then it would be fine. Since it's not I don't dig it. Mind you, I listen to secular music and I don't box myself in. I even go out of my way not to listen to some Christian music because I think the lyrics are just lazy and not terribly deep. So I don't like it when clearly talented Christian artists don't go deep. We need more of that in Christian music. You dig me? So I may sit this album out. Right now I'm sitting out most all of the Newsboys stuff. I don't think they're a bad band. They are just a 'worship band' as you put it. We need more bands that stretch Christian music. It's become so small a genre. Sorry for the side rant there. Put simply, my words do not reflect my philosophy about Christian music in general... just noting the consistency of a band that I really like. I love them as Christians and I love you too. Feel free to hit me up with conversation anytime. I don't claim to be 'right' here. Just stating my personal choice in this certain circumstance.
@@MarkEdwarMurphy I feel you Mark. And it's ok to be disappointed. It's hard not to be disappointed when a band changes in any way, whether it is lyrics or genre or vocalists or whatever. I do think it's important to approach each new album as a separate thing and try to avoid comparison to past releases. But even then, I still get why you're disappointed-you have less of a problem with what this is than with what it no longer is (if that makes sense). And you're right, there is definitely a huge lack of artists who are Christian who sing with strong theological lyrics. But I would add that for a band like Citizen, the theology that was there in past releases is still there in those individuals who are writing their current music, they are just communicating that theology in a different way. These new songs sound very confessional, which is an important aspect of theology and obviously a vital part of repentance. So they are more exemplifying theology than preaching it with these new songs. Regardless, again, it's ok if you don't like their new stuff. This isn't an objective thing. And I do see how within the genre of "worship music", it sucks loosing one of the best bands as they enter into a different musical/lyrical sphere. Who knows, their next album might re-enter into that area. Speaking of this, let me know if there are any bands you are digging right now in that genre. I really only like/listen to Kings Kaleidoscope's, Citizens', Ascend the Hill, and Dustin Kensrue's (he's another conversation for another day) worship stuff. And KK's new stuff isn't really worship, nor is Citizens', and I don't think Kensrue will be writing any more worship albums in the near distant future. Thankfully, Ascend the Hill has reunited and are supposed to release new music in the near distant future. But there is definitely a hole there for me as well so for sure let me know if there's more stuff out there. Thanks for entering into conversation even if I was a little intense at first haha. I appreciate you man!
@@nathangrimley7329 Wooboy that's a difficult question right now. I still like Rend Collective very much. There's just something lovely and joyful about their Irish folk sound. Crowder is good but I think his hilly billy pop sounds needs to evolve a bit as it's getting somewhat stale. If you like acoustic music, I really love Andrew Peterson. He has more theology in one chorus than you'll find on a whole Hillsong album. JJ Heller is very good and her songs are far more personal/relational but when she does go spiritual it's a bit deeper and more real than your usual CCM. [Verse 1]
Black cloud hangin' over my head
Haven't seen the sun shine for weeks
All I wanna do is go to bed
Be a runaway in a dream
Well, I guess I could just pretend
Give the image of a man at peace
[?]
When what I really need is some relief
Help me up
Like a statue, stuck in time
I don't every really seem to move
Maybe all of it is by design
But what's a pessimist supposed to do?
Well, I guess I could just pretend
Give the image of a man that's free
[?]
When what I really need is some belief
Help me out
Help me out
Help me out
Help me out
Tired of staring down at my feet
I've been walking in a strange direction
I wanna rise from this defeat
But am I wasting my time?
I feel the wind press on my back
I've been fighting most of my life against it
I hear the voice inside my head say "You're no good."
But I'm over it
[Outro]
Time to look on up
I'm looking up
I'm looking up
Time to look on up
I'm looking up
I'm looking on up
Oh, I'm looking up
I'm looking up
I'm looking up
Time to look on up
