    The no frills sweater is planned to be my second ever hand knit sweater! My first was bottom-up fingering weight with color work, steeking and seaming so it’ll be nice to go to dk weight seamless top down for my second. I picked it because it looked so wearable so it’s good to see your review confirming that!

    Lots of great, cozy hand knits! Love the yarn in your No-Frills sweater, but I'm not on the PetiteKnits bandwagon. Her designs tend to be classic and basic, but that means that for me they just don't seem fun to knit! I need more of a payoff in terms of excitement or zest.

    A possible remedy for your sock wear problem could be knitting in a strand of No. 10 crochet cotton in with your wool at the heel, soles, and toes. I've had good luck with it knitted in with single ply, worsted wool in the slipper socks I've made. If it's feasible for you, keep a supply of spare wool wound on to cards and labeled with the projects each was used for. That way you have a reserve of mending wool in place when items require reinforcing/repair. This is a tip I learned from my thrifty Scottish grandmother that has served me well over the decades.
    Love that hat you knit. ❤️

    Hah!!! A trip down Memory Lane…
    Fire pit mitts: I’ve had this pattern in my files for a lonnnnng time! The long, roomy arm/s called to me. Made quite a few pairs years ago. Annnd I have some LB wool (oatmeal color) in stash, somewhere.
    Sweater: I remember the podcast when you had a few inches on your needles, fell Totally in Love with that yarn combo. I was amazed how the variegated Fluff worked w a solid color. I’ve been looking for yarn like this ever since. I hope you still dye that beautiful floof, cuz I. Must. Have. This. !!
    Very Kewl Hat! Need to get pattern.
    Socks: I remember the vid, they DID hold up fairly well! Try darning holes using duplicate stitch. Perhaps across the bottom of foot where gets most wear/tear.
    Thanks for the “Memories”, inspiration struck, a friend wants long-arm mitts, sooo, off to the stash & Fire Pit mitts!

    For the ends sticking out I recommend using a felting needle. For the spots were your bag is unraveling you could use a duplicate stitch, a patch, or you could've darn it. That strap looks like it may be double knit. Also, lion Brandon fisherman yarn is the absolute best budget yarn out there.

    I LOVE Lion Brand's Fisherman Wool. I have a bunch in my stash from when I first started knitting and I still buy it sometimes. It's a good work horse yarn and you only need 3 balls at most even for a textured sweater. Since it's only about $13 a ball that's a steal, especially if you can use a coupon code with it (which I usually did when I purchase from Joans or similar stores). Glad people are talking about this yarn. It's a real bummer that the LB fingering yarn was discontinued. Anyway, I love your videos. Keep up the great work. :)

    I stumbled across your channel recently and have been binge watching your videos. I appreciate your cadence and soothing voice and chill vibe. You have also managed to successfully walk the line between following trends but not coming across as snooty or pretentious about it, and I super appreciate that. I usually stray away from knitting podcasts for these reasons; I find some people to be out of reach in their relatability. Instead I opt to peruse Ravelry and find knits on my own and throw trends to the wind. Thank you for being a breath of fresh air in the sea of YT podcasts! I moved over to Cascade 220 because I could easily get that at my LYS and the Fisherman’s wool ai had to order online. Anyway both of those are fabulously affordable yarns! You are such a beautiful knitter, Tayler. One of the other knitting podcasts that I watch is The Knotty Knit Wits and one of the cohosts Leslie is who lead me to you a few years back. I am making your fire pit mits with fingering weight yarn. I have 60 stitches around and have gotten to the thumb i used the 4 stitch difference between the sizes in your pattern and did the math for my 60 and got that i would need to have 24 stitches between markers. Which is doing an additional 14 rounds. This is my first time knitting any fingerless gloves and my 3rd knitting project in general. So im still pretty new. Does my math make sense and sound right for the yarn weight change?

    • @WOOLNEEDLESHANDS
      @WOOLNEEDLESHANDS  Рік тому +1

      Hi Michelle! First of all, thank you for downloading the pattern!
      Ok, the thumb gusset stitches are going to be 30% of your total CO stitches. So if you casted on 60 sts, you'll want your thumb to be 18 sts. which would be 17 rows (if I'm not mistaken...). Does that make sense? I would stick to the percentage of the CO sts for the thumb as opposed to the difference between the sizes. You should get a better fit and a normal length thumb. Please let me know how it goes!

The one I'm knitting on I did some variation on the neck..did a kind of rolled edge instead of ribbing. My first was a dk weight, the second was one strand of black fingering held with a strand of colored yarn. The colored yarns are minis from Row One Yarns monthly subscription.
    The third is black fingering held with a mohair in a salmon/orange/tan variegated lace weight from Ice yarns.

      I think this really depends on your own preference for wool. However if it’s being compared to a Merino or a fine wool breed that we’re so familiar with, yes. I would say it is “itchier”. I really think you need to feel it for yourself to make that determination though. 👍

    I'm thinking of knitting a No Frills but was wondering what your thoughts are comparing the No Frills and the Flax. I've knit the Flax in an oversized version for me as a cozy home sweater. I love Fisherman's wool! I knit tote bags to felt with that.

    • @WOOLNEEDLESHANDS
      @WOOLNEEDLESHANDS  Рік тому

      Hi Dorothy! Thank you for watching. I think the Flax and the No Frills are VERY similar. I've not knit the Flax so I can only go off of what I see and what the pattern details say on Ravelry. The Flax is a worsted-weight sweater where the No Frills is a DK weight so you may get a little bit more wearability with the lighter fabric of the No Frills...however I think that's a negligible difference. The No Frills also has a deeper hemline and cuff which I love, but that is easy to modify in the Flax if you wanted. Also, the No Frills has no special design elements whereas the Flax has the texture down the side of the arm and the No Frills seems to have more positive ease built into the design than the Flax (which you are probably familiar with since you sized up for a more cozy, oversized sweater). After looking at both, and for what it's worth, I gravitate more to the No Frills for its fit and hemline/cuff depth...and I also like the gradual arm shaping that leaves some nice wiggle room.
      And this one last knit picky thing that may not matter much...I feel like the raglan seams on the Flax, when knit to size I imagine, pull on the neckline a little...
      I hope this helps a bit! ❤️

      I KNOW how frustrating that is Becky. Short rows can take try or patience and unless you mark the little wrapped stitches with interlocking markers, it’s easy to lose track of them (which is the biggest cause if short row issues, it would seem). I hope you do give it a try again. I know you’ll love it.
      And thank you so much for watching and for your kind words. It means soo much. ❤️

    Anyone have a suggestion for a first sweater knit for a female a little more "endowed"? Most of the ones I see suggested don't allow for a larger chest, they are equally sized front and back and I'd rather not try to adapt on my first go.

      This is a great question! I would would look at the First Raglan by Jared Flood (?). Look at project photos for folks who share your body shape. That always helps me. I’ll keep my eye out.

    The lion brand fisherman's wool was what I made an aran sweater with, it really is a joy to work but it turns out I don't love to wear a rustic sweater 😭❤️🥰
