  • With 4 out of the 15 Audlem locks left, we crack on past the Shroppie Fly and onwards towards Nantwich on the Shropshire Union Canal. We discuss the use of our Solar Dump, if it ever stays dry enough for the sun to come out! The Duck Hatches get a revamp, Ernie's rattling is put to a stop for good and then....shocking moment, literally...I never expected that to happen while walking in the countryside!

    Wonderful 😄
    After watching you guys I felt a wee poem coming on.
    Cruising up the Shroppie with the wind in our hair.
    Poor Ernie thinks it’s “rubbish” yet loves this odd pair.
    Waiting to see what’s round the next bend,
    What delights that never seem to never end.
    A walk through the county “he said” lets get out for a bit.
    You got the shock of your life and was up to your knees in $#it!!!
    Now look at Paul who’s proud as he can be
    who caught the biggest fish for youtube to see.
    Fixing the tiller and adjusting the catch
    You two guys are an amazing match.
    Such are the woes of a boating life,
    Are made so much better with a perfect wife.
    Looking forward to next weeks saga, to see what you guys tell.
    And as always we do “like subscribed and rang the notification bell”
    Thanks for the upload 😍

    Hi Liz and Paul, there is a method for reducing the bywash, when going down the lock, once the lock is empty, you open the top lock gate paddles so that the excess water comes from the stern of the boat and not down the bywash. Then once Paul is clear, close the top lock gate paddles and then close the lower lock gates.
    When going up, empty the lock and open the lower gates, then with the gates open raise the top lock gate paddles so that the excess water is flowing through the lock to the bow and not coming from the side at the bywash.
    We tried this last summer and it works well, we did confuse one volly locker!!

    Hi Liz, Paul and Captain Ernie.
    It was interesting to hear about the temperatures you were experiencing. Around that time, west of Calgary, and in the mountains they had about 2-3 inches of snow, crazy weather!! So much for the planet heating up lol.
    Liz your adventure with the cow poop and electric fence was really something. I have to apologize for laughing throughout that bit of the video but having experienced similar I can relate to your situation.

      @@uponreflection I'll reply as me Dad was replying and accidentally lost the text lol. There's been so much crammed in that it's hard to remember 😳 Nantwich to Market Drayton and had a Chinese, then Gnossall and had pizza at the Boat In. Then Autherley Junction, into Stafford and we did a trip into Birmingham for the evening and got the last train back. That was probably the most memorable. Oh I forgot Penkridge before Stafford. Then onto Stone. Next Stoke but we were held up for 2 days due to a supposed hand being found in the canal and they were searching. Luckily we were moored outside the Plume of Feathers owned by Neil Morrissey. Pub again 😳😁 Then onto Stoke. We went into the city and never again! Man that place was run down. Then we flogged it to Middlewich which was a really hard day doing near to 30 locks. We stopped at the Red Bull pub on route and had the most amazing food nom nom. Middlewich last night. Phew it's been crazy!! So much for a relaxing two weeks! 😂 Sorry I couldn't hear what Paul was saying when we passed so I started to reverse but the boat had other ideas. Last full day tomorrow so we're planning on a BBQ. Just at the Badger now cooling off. One of the boosters said there's a short cut. Didn't realise he meant through the jungle! 😂😂

Lovely walk through the near pitch black Blair Witch woods on the way back! 😵 Thanks and hopefully we'll do another cruise again. Thank you Eric so glad you enjoy the videos. Yes, the artwork has been sealed with a protective art spray and they are done using acrylic paint which are waterproof to a point when dry 😉😊

    You guys are something else...lol. I really like your interior decorating style, it's very elegant and classy. As far as your artwork, I was curious if the cursive handwriting is something you did or is it some kind of stencil work or...? Thanks guys. Take care.

      Hi Roger. The writing is a decoupage sheet I used and mixed it with the acrylic paint overlay. 😊

    *Morena Liz, Paul & Ernie 🙂Paul, I suggested you do that on the tiller way back... better late than never aye 🙂 Liz, if ever in doubt, put a leaf of grass on the wire.... less of a electric shock treatment of getting zapped 🙂 Poop & more poop... lucky that Ernie didn't want to roll in it.. 🙂 Paul getting in a few wise crack jokes hehehe 🙂 Liz, ahhh see on the canal you can't outrun the rain, whilst on the motorbike you can by chopping and changing directions. lol 🙂 Freezing cold here but got a sunny day after shocking weather causing flooding in parts of NZ again! You all have a awesome week sailing along the canals 🙂nz*

      @uponreflection  12 днів тому +1

      Oh no not more flooding for you. I hope it didn't damage anything. We had passed a few electric fence parts and roped sections and been all ok, I think that's why Paul said confidently to go under the rope section but unlike the others it was live..think I'll just stay very clear of any fences from now on 🤣 out running the rain at 2mph is pretty impossible like you say..we've been recommended a rain check app now that gives you a satellite image of where the rain is so we will give that a try when cruising next time 😉 😊

      @@uponreflection *Liz, I thankfully didn't get flooded... but parts of NZ did again during another drenching of heavy rain. Every time we get torrential rain, we all wonder who will be flooded this time round!! They are still trying to recover from Cyclone Gabriel... and then they get more flooding. It is really tough of so many, when this just keeps on happening. Then people can not use roads as they are flooded.. The road gutters are covered in leaves from autumn winds.... so then the drains are blocked... Councils not keeping up either.! 🙂.*

      @andreacrashe9894 it's an ongoing job isn't it trying to keep up with the damages the weather has brought to so many areas. Glad you didn't get flooded though. Stay safe 😊

    Hey guys. I do look forward to your vlogs ❤ Liz …i did buy the jumpsuit and it actually does look good but forgot what a pain they are when you need the loo! Lol . Do you sell any of your artwork? Have a blessed week 🙏❤️

      @uponreflection  12 днів тому +1

      Hi Vicky. Glad you managed to get the jumpsuit..ha ha ha never leave it to the last minute when you have a jumpsuit on 🤣 I used to sell them..I used to do bespoke art. I may well sell some on my Etsy shop again but doubt I'd do bespoke art again due to lack of space, I may just paint when I can and then pop it up for sale but I'll wait to get a collection done first. My art page on Instagram is @elizabethjane_art if you are in Instagram, although I don't do the resin or alcohol art anymore as it's a bit hazardous on a boat 🤣I'd post on there if I do start selling again 😊

      @@uponreflection Wow..I just went and looked! What beautiful artwork 😍. Are the mugs one thing you aren’t able to do on the boat? as people would love them and I imagine on the more affordable side for a piece of original art by yourself 😊

    • @uponreflection
      @uponreflection  12 днів тому

      @vickyf164 yes unfortunately I'd have no where to store the mugs and would have difficulty trying to source how to get the mugs to the boat to paint. I'll probably stick to mounted A4 sort of sized paintings and then maybe make a few prints as well so people have option to buy original or print copies. 😊

    Another great video guys. Do narrowboats have surge protectors and/or static aerials to absorb a lightening strike if you do get zapped?

    • @uponreflection
      @uponreflection  12 днів тому

      Hi John, not as far as I know, they have galvanic isolators but I think that's for more when plugged into shore line. I've heard that narrowboats act like a Faraday cage. 😊

    • @uponreflection
      @uponreflection  12 днів тому

      5 hours ago is when the video goes live on youtube however it was the 7th when we filmed that part. So we film, edit and then upload the video. We are usually about 2 or 3 weeks behind if that makes sense. We are currently in a different mooring spot, 2/3 weeks ahead of when this was filmed. We record over a week or so then it takes about a week to edit. 😊
