  • Danielle Ate the Sandwich performs its song “You Were My Home” in this music video recorded at our SecondStoryGarage.com studio inside the Daily Camera newsroom in Boulder, Colorado.
If music ever stops working out for Danielle Ate the Sandwich, the Fort Collins band could easily have a second career in comedy. Frontwoman Danielle Anderson, who is known for her Deschanelian charm and who first developed a following on UA-cam, has a comedian’s wit and outlook. Her violin player, Chris Jusell, is sometimes so deadpan in his own humor it takes a second to catch on before you realize he’s saying something hilarious.
But music is working for Daniele Ate the Sandwich. The trio, which includes Dennis Bigelow on bass, is fine-tuned to interpret Anderson’s touching, penetrating songwriting. Her mastery of melody and lyricism is not something to laugh at, but it can make your spirit smile. Her latest album is The Drawing Back of Curtains, which is the soundtrack to the documentary film “Packed in the Trunk: The Lost Art of Edith Lake Wilkinson.” The film made its world premiere at the Palms Springs International Film Festival in early January.
Danielle Ate the Sandwich played songs from the album during its visit to the Garage. The set included “Coming Back Down,” “You Were My Home” and “The Drawing Back of Curtains.” Anderson also sat down with Quentin to talk about her music and the film - and to generally be funny.
