  • Here is my entry for Simon's contest.
Locke was a small engine who worked at the docks. The boys of the surrounding village would often come down and see him, as Locke would listen to their stories and enjoyed their company when none of the others engines really would, but in 1960 the dock finally succumbed to the expansive dieselisation which had come over the nation's railways. All the steam engines were replaced with diesels of all kinds.
What, then, was Locke's fate to be? It certainly wasn't one of hope, as he was condemned to the scrap heap like all of his cousins of the LNER. Locke was next in line to be cut up. He was placed inside; they started to demolish him when a loud voice rang out from the other side of the shed: "You won't take Locke from us!"
The boys, who were now men, had come back to save their old friend from what was to be his final hours.
Locke is preserved now on a railway close to where his old docks formerly presided. Locke knows, after his near-death experience, that if you make an impression on youth, they will support you even in your most desperate of hours.

Locke, for reference, is a modified Y7 class locomotive, with an added connecting rod and exterior cylinders among other small alterations to make him truly unique.
The rusted textures were rendered beautifully by Ciremi of SiF. Thanks, man!
