  • In this video, I describe the horrid experiences of some American nurses and try to get into the reasons why some of them may be living paycheck to paycheck. Even though there may be exceptions, times appear to be hard for many American nurses in the US according to what most American nurses say. I am so glad I did my nursing degrees at a public university. Most private colleges have hybird degrees and nursing degrees that take 18 months, compare to the traditional 3-4 years . Take for instance Chamberlain University, their BSN degree cost up to $85,000. That same degree would cost $35-40,000 starting at a community college and completing at a public University. Overall, its pretty much the choices you make. Also live within your means and stop comparing yourself to others.

I absolutely agree with his comment. I got my Associates Degree from a Community College fully paid for by PELL and TAP grants , followed by Bachelors and Masters with full tuition reimbursement from my employer( in NYC) . I only paid out of pocket for text books. I always tell people who are interested in nursing to take this route.

I feel like nurses view their job as a destination and not a stepping stone for more opportunity. Nurses also don't switch jobs as much as they should, staying at the same job for more than 2 years; most of the time, is going to end up in the loss of potential income.

Manassey, I appreciate people like you. Also I appreciate nurse Success Umesiri(watched her videos last week). You guys are honest and share both the good and 'bad'side of practising in the USA.
Previously, people kept mute on the not so rosy sides of the US, and that silence perpetuated the illusion of the US being the land of opportunities, the land of the free and the land of milk and honey. No place is perfect. Every country has its pros and cons.
Once again, I appreciate you bro.
Just to mention, you are very fluent.

It is tax. For people see how they get for hour, but tax is so high that you don’t have enough to pay bills. Some nurses are paid $39 hr., But tax is $20 hr. Now, she has $20 hr. The higher the pay and higher the tax.

What i have understood from the video is that, americans in general arent raised smart, they being a nurse arent able to handle their finances and tend to take everything on loan and dont think what would happen in the long run. Strategic planning isnt there that can save them from financial debt and stress in the future. America is definitely for the young and entrepreneurs or smart people others can go broke fast due to over spending and can end up blaming their own government for not supporting enough.

When it comes to lack of financial literacy, it's pretty much a universal issue. I wonder why it's not mandatory learning for humanity... for something that affects us so much, it sure doesn't get the needed attention.
