I grew up in San Mateo... My childhood was blessed. The weather is near perfect all year round! I've been in many MANY different cities, states across the whole US and I've never experienced such wonderful weather anywhere else on a consistent basis like it was there.

Aragon High School highly rated? When I went there in the early 80's, we had a smoking section. An open campus to come and go as we wanted. The Preppies from Hillsborough drove to school in their white VW Cabriolets, the Stoners made pipes in woodshop, the Cholos from Barrio Shoreview were fixing their lowriders at the auto shop class, the Nerds from the Highlands were building computers, and the Pacific Islanders from South Norfolk on the football team won the championship. Sadly, many of my classmates moved away because they were priced out by tech transplants. It was more economically diverse, blue collar and interesting back then.

@@mr.luisanthonydivito3585 thanks for sharing. Yes interesting groups back then! Anyone that stayed has $2.5m+ now and it is a very lively downtown and hillsdale shopping area.

You need a car to live here, public transit isn't good everything is too spaced out, cant beat San Jose or San Francisco :)

On the plus side, the crime rate in San Mateo is much lower than San Jose and San Francisco. Also it’s easier to find parking to dine in downtown San Mateo.

@myjourney1011 id love it too! But that’s not going to ever happen. Only new construction communities, in which there isn’t much, would do that but existing ones, people aren’t willing to want to wait/pay for that

I retired from a major airline and left this overtaxed state run by a clown of a governor. All of the high-tech jerks ruined this area it was a great place back in the day.

The city was much different 20 years ago as far as diversity in population and housing developments. Many apartment buildings and complexes have been built in comparison to new homes. When I am in the area I drive thru to see what new developments there are. With this migrant influx I'm curious what it will look like in five to ten years. I was hoping, he were going to mentioned its proximity to Half Moon Bay. Strategically, San Mateo can be a great place to reside. Just depends on your proximity to palm colored people. It has always been that way in San Mateo. I just wasn't equipped with the skills to identify that when I was growing up there.
