    I have lived in the USA for over 30 years. In order to start a business, you need to pay money for Permit this, permit that. you need to pay the town / city government for zoning inspection, for health inspection, for building permit, all in addition to buying materials and hiring people for business. We are not allowed to just go into woods to cut down trees to build things, most Americans pay land taxes every year, just for the right to use a land for living or for growing food. The gov't and Large Corporations own all the useful land, own all the Mineral and Resource rights. The USA is ruled by money and by big gov't/corporations. We are not as free as some say we are.

      I've always looked up to developed nations... but all these are opening my eyes to the reality... I guess if you follow the system and manage to rise to the top, then life is good... otherwise it is hard to break free from all those rules and regulations.

    • @_Wai_Wai_
      @_Wai_Wai_ 4 роки тому +2

      @@willwen6600 the way to rise to the top in western society is either to cheat your fellow citizens out of their money, or thru bribing government officials and also to have a business that is all about making profits, without regard for well being of workers or the cleanliness of the environment. This is why so many US corporations outsource their dirty jobs to other countries. Sometimes the US laws actually function properly in regards to environmental protection, as well as worker's protection. But the corporation always find a way around them.

      The US industrialized and became wealthy because it was free. Once people got wealthy, they were okay with paying to see a doctor before going to a pharmacist, whereas that kind of extra fee would really hurt someone who earns $350 per month. Same with all the rediculous zoning laws and permitting procedures--those are designed to earn certain occupational groups money at the expense of home buyers.
      To be honest, very few Americans living today believe in regulatory and economic freedom. They all believe some politician or government dictator should make our decisions for us, otherwise "evil corporations and employers will screw us."

    • @_Wai_Wai_
      @_Wai_Wai_ 2 роки тому

      @@-whackd The US became wealthy thru wars and thru Slavery. Without slaves, the former British colonies would not have been able to export their cheap cotton and other goods, and capture the markets in foreign countries. Of course, the use of Soldiers, and Guns were employed in conjunction with Money. As well as the expansion territory from East Coast to West, eliminating native American tribes along the way. The USA only has the Appearance of freedom, while regulations hamstring small businesses, and money needs to be paid behind the scenes.

      @@_Wai_Wai_ Thanks to modern bogus sex panics from the capitalists, such thing is near impossible. Sure, as a minor you could try reporting the parent(s), but most of the time they're in the legal gray - legal clear, and there's little you can do but kill time, lest you break some law. Even trying to escape, either by hurting your abusers or ending your time can land you into a asylum people call "mental healthcare", where they just tell you to accept it while they fill you with drugs. I would know, I tried both options. Even the left, or more specifically anti-capitalists seem to barely even care about this subject. And even if they did what could they do? Nothing, lest they want to ruin their life by landing on the registry.

    Your observation in regards to rules for constructing infrastructure like septic tanks and buildings resonates with so many people, that we assume that this is normal and how things should be. Unless done covertly, it's so hard and costly to construct your own infrastructure or even build your own earth house on your own land in level 4 high income countries. In the name of public safety, there are too many rules to follow, permits to obtain, professional inspections to be carried out and certifications to be issued, and as you mentioned, very little commonsense. And that's reason why many people from the so-called developed world would rather resort to taking a 30-year mortgage and engage a builder or contractor to do the work in compliance with local government rules and procedures. We are making life difficult for ourselves and that's not right. The problems we face today is the result of our own Human progress. You sir are a free man Jon. A legend. Great lecture, Jon. Thank you! I really appreciate your philosophy of life and I hope your message spreads around to millions of people who do not have common sense and freedom because of self imposed rules. I have given my kids plenty of freedom to do whatever they want with their lives and they have all turned into amazing artists. They have all graduated from their respective regular schools and what was offered to them, "for their future", did not make any sense to them. Art in general is what drives them and I support them in every sense. They are happy, free thinking, mindful, honest and very responsible individuals and I love and appreciate them. All the best to you, Jon, and thanks again for your time, wisdom and willingness to share it with all of us.

    Jon, something happened in the middle ages in Europe. We used to have herbalists and healers not doctors and most people knew which herbs were good for them. Religion caused a huge war (the crusaders) were all herbalists and people not believing in their religion were tortured and burnt alive in front of the masses. This is how most people got instantly converted to christianity. I'm from Italy where, before christianity, there was paganism so people believed that there was a spirit in everything (water, trees, flowers, etc.). Those people were accused of witchcraft by the roman empire, involved in the creation of organized societies and whose emperors wanted to be worshipped by people as if they were gods, saw in christianity a fantastic opportunity to control people. In those times, their motto was "divide et impera" (split and rule). Many people were massacred in the name of god. They manipulated the teachings of jesus and turned them into a religion and started proclaiming themselves rulers of the world. Fear was what gave them power over people but the smartest thing they did was the creation of an economy, the tax system and so on. Materialism was and still is their god but a very simple global pandemic is enough to wipe an entire species away. This is our last wake up calling from our Mother Earth.

    Hey Jon, I love your idea and I agree that common sense is lacking in many people.
    I think why we have a lot of rules & regulations in developed country is so that we can protect society from bad, evil people and actions.
    For example, a house builder might know how to build a house properly, but out of greed, he decides to cut corners and build an unstable house. That's why it's good that we have someone to come and inspect and approve the work of the builder.
    I always thought the reason for the "end of travelator" is to help the visually impaired travellers - those who are blind or have difficulty seeing clearly. This can help them move around the airport safely.
    If possible, I'd like to hear your thoughts on how you are able to create a safe environment with good moral values?
    For example, do people develop greed, hatred, and evil thoughts over time as they age? And decide to act outside of the norms of the community?

      So true, I think the same way. What if you have common sense but your neighbour doesn't? Then fights and quarrels are unavoidable. To have a common sense is great and laws are the reflection of common sense. You can have common sense and the law will not interfere with your life, but if you make other people's lives worse the law will make you follow the common sense. As a person who doesn't really like fighting or quarreling I would rather sue someone than do this things.
      I wrote the same comment to show my support of your way of thinking.

      I think his message is not NO RULE OF LAW, but rely more on common sense instead of too many rules and regulations. A lot of rules are made to cover someone's behind, so to speak...

      @@minimars3696 There are instances as most of us are aware, where the litigation process protects the haves more than the have nots. Suing someone costs money and if you lose the case, you lose more money. The poor can't afford to sue so the richer people still get away with a lot. Not that the rich don't have common sense. They choose not to play fair just because they can get away with it. The law when applied without empathy can sometimes fail.

    I like your talk on many topics, but if you are a ''farang'' or foreigner in a developing county and from a ''developed'' country, there is also a wall of rules and regulations, is it about skin color or nationality, but certainly not any freedom, monitored wherever you go.

    ....if an Ant walks into your Ear.... place your finger on the fleshy protuberance (a.k.a. EarTab..?) that protrudes from front mid-ear OVER the Aural Canal OPENING (where the Ant entered) pushing FIRMLY inward as if to block ALL sound.... the resulting change in pressure will cause the Ant to reverse Direction.... till it is actually SCRATCHING on the INSIDE of the Ear Tab.... at which point you merely REMOVE your finger AND.... the Ant crawls down your NECK.... AWAY from your.... DRY ear.... feeling a bit CHASTENED perhaps.... MORTIFIED..... arguably.... but certainly unharmed.... PHYSICALLY.... at least....

    Jon .. you're words stir the nest .. and I like scrambled eggs! 😊👍 I must add a thought here .. as you have pointed out the large developed "civilized" people have a lot of rules telling people how to think .. religion is full of this .. the stories they tell goes against common sense .. yet people are so gullible that swallow it all without thinking. "Common Sense" will tell anyone that no one walks on water or changes it into wine .. or feeds 5,000 people with a child's lunch of 5 loaves and two fishes. It's not "common sense" .. yet people allow themselves to be drugged by this witchery on a daily basis. A "common law" marriage is when two people move in together deciding to see if they can mutually benefit from living together .. as good friends .. and common sense would say that if something happened that caused them to be unhappy with each other .. why should they go to a judge and lawyers to sort it out .. why can't they just decide to be fair with each other and go their separate ways .. while at the same time doing whatever was necessary to care for any children involved. Common sense is very uncommon. Where I live .. we do not have many rules .. we can build a house or an outhouse .. without a permit .. as long as it's not inside the city limits. There is one main rule for a septic system .. you have to have a perk test if you have less than 10 acres .. otherwise you can install a septic tank without inspection etc. It probably is a good idea to try to follow code .. just so insurance companies will insure your home .. but again if it's a modest home .. why worry!? Great talk!

Believe me....the world is very very different than your world. It might be better if the whole world adopted your disciplines but that will never happen.
