- On May 25, 2024, I rode Adirondack Railroad's Thendara-Big Moose NY trip which happened to be the "season opener" for this particular train. In fact, I was the first rider to buy an in-person ticket for this run at the Thendara station.
Scenes include interior views of the Thendara Station, a walk-through the yard, on-board views from the Adirondack's open air car, a look inside the cab of No. 3573 and an interview with DeAndre Walters and Bill Moll, the engineers.
So cool. That was a fun little video excursion with an interesting tour of the cab. The Adirondack Mountains are beautiful. It is the largest protected area in the United States. 2,000 miles of hiking trails, over 3,000 lakes and ponds, and 1,200 miles of rivers.
Another fine video from Morrisville NY. We are planning on riding the Adirondack RR this summer. Maybe we'll see you there.
Thank you for the video. It is motivating me to get up there and take a ride this summer. I appreciate the cab tour, too.
The Thendara train station was really nice and the train ride was also
really awesome quite an adventure around Big Moose this was both
an exciting ride and video Thank You.🇺🇲🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🇺🇲
Really nice video. It looks like you had a nice day for a train ride. The Old Forge/Thendara station looks like it was a really busy place in it's hey day.
That was fun! Thank you and thanks to the crew.
*_I really enjoyed_* *_Thank you_*
Enjoyable video for Memorial Day weekend. Thank you
Another Great Video. Thanks, Rambler. Hi to Vtold😅
Watching from North Carolina, My sister and I have taken the train from Utica to Thendara a few times, always a great experience. I love the station I always enjoy looking at the memorabilia. I will be up this summer and do this trip. I appreciate all your videos, great job 😊
Looked like a very nice day! Enjoy it while you can.
"An Alco fan, pretty cool", now there is a pun if ever there was.
Thanks from York, England for another great video - both informative and entertaining! It looks like the Adirondack Railroad are doing a great job there, all the best for the future, guys!
Super video !!!!!!
We had tickets last year but with those huge storms and wash-outs , we were unable to ride.
We had planned on camping at Limekiln Lake, but ended up in motels in Old Forge.
Still had a awesome time and had a good day at the water park (My Grandson's favorite thing to do)
We are returning this August and the tickets are still good, so we hope for a fun ride on the ADK Railroad !
Nothing beats the Adirondacks !!!!
Regards Bark-Eaters ......
Make sure you don't let the credits run past a year. I thought a had $80 credit but a rude woman at adk railroad told me I didn't use it within a year and couldn't recover the money. Really put a bad taste in my mouth since I was a solid supporter of the railroad.
@@SupaFly10579 Yep, thanx, we will be there under a year....
Hey rail rambler awesome train ride. It's a shame they pulled tracks to lake placid. They should have left them in and give rides to lake placid.
Enjoyed the nice ride. Thanks and watching from Clinton NY
FUN VIDEO! Thanks for taking the time to make it!
Thanks Matt, glad you enjoyed the video!
Very nice. Great ride and very informative. Thanks
GREAT job with the video camera ! Love the scenery and old structures along the way. Thank you !
Oh what a great video! Thanks for taking us along for the ride. Beautiful country there. It was also great seeing the tour of the engine. Locomotives are my favorite part of a train. Looking forward to seeing Witold again
We used to go to old forge, back in the day.... originally from South New Berlin, looking forwatd to going home
Love the "dacs", thank you for the vid
Looks like fun!
An excellent weather day to start the season and I remember you mentioned they had to do track work due to some flooding but I will say that was a rather smooth ride. Between the remoteness and the summer Camp look on the homes plus the small rock cuts it was very reminiscent of the northern part of Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula. No Bitold for a warm day hopefully he didn't go on a one-man wrecking spree around the house
W.J.M. at the throttle!
He's a legend!
Does the train have a layover at Big Moose long enough to have lunch inside the restaurant?
At one point, arrangements were made for passengers to detrain in Big Moose to have lunch but that opportunity ended a few years back.
Nice job. Two questions: what were the string of freight cars on the return trip? And how far north is there an active freight customer on this line? Thanks
The boxcars are used by the Adirondack RR to haul railbikes to/from Tupper Lake, the current end of active tracks 55 miles north of Thendara. There are no freight customers on the Adirondack Line (85 miles).

Ok, thanks . How far north of Utica is there an active freight customer, and is there any potential for additional traffic?
Half way there, I am sure I saw a black dog with a video camera, must have imagined it.
😂😂😂 Witold
A passenger did bring a service dog aboard, someone else mentioned he thought it was Witold on first glance. Perhaps I’ll fit him with an orange vest next time and bring him along, lol
I saw the black dog also, watching from NC.
That's a very smokey locomotive.
Imagine having 2000 of them running like that back in the 50 and 60's and we are still here.
@@robertmason7553 I know. The Florida Railroad Museum has some smokey locos... I go there a couple times a year to ride an excursion. I went 2 weeks ago and everyone in the open air car was struggling, some moved to an enclosed car.
Mosquito control 😂
