      You can, but is preferred to use Marine grease.

    How do you know how far to tighten the nut? What is the purpose of pulling up on the valve? What keeps it from leaking up and around the plug valve? Mine loses air and I think that is where it is losing it.

      Good question, you should be counting the revolutions when removing the nut. It can range from 7-10 full revolutions to set spring tension for proper over pressure relief. If it's still leaking, then the spring needs to be replaced.

      Purpose if pulling up on valve is to make sure Pressure Relief works. Seals prevent it from leaking around the valve.
