Amazing. I will miss the dinosaur but I hope that putting focus on an animal alive in our oceans today will encourage people to care about protecting the amazing wildlife that exists all around us today!
Dippy was iconic, I first saw her when I went there as a kid and enjoyed seeing her all the times I have gone back since but once I found out Dippy was just a plaster cast model and that no full skeleton of a Diplodocus had ever been unearth, that display lost it's prestige in my eyes. I'm happy that we finally have a real skeleton on display, a skeleton of an animal much more worthy of our attention and admiration.
Not only is the blue whale the largest animal to ever roam the earth (that we know of), it's an actual full skeleton and it still roam the ocean today and is therefore a great reminder for all visitors to take good care of our planet and oceans, so that these magnificent animals (hopefully) won't go the way of the dodo (or Dippy). Great choice by the NHM to display it!
I went to the museum when the whale was in the old space, the dinosaur in the main hall was amazing also, I just did not catch why they moved o.o But was amazing being able to see these two. The museum is incredible, very rich in history, is a super history class with outstanding exemplars.
it's almost like the museum is a whole separate world! I had such an amazing feeling watching all these people work together to bring this extraordinary specimen to its new place, can't imagine how it would feel visiting the place! Totally have it on my 'must visit' list now!
I grew up and live on the northeast coast of America, the ocean is more than just a body of water to me, my mom put me in the waves as a month old baby, she said I pulled away until she caved and was shocked at my ability to get pummeled by little waves and come up laughing, it sounds crazy but I'm more comfortable in the ocean, something instinctive deep in the primitive party of my brain, I truly feel a connection I can't verbalize. Thanks Mom.RIP🙏
I always would liked to had seen both skeletons together in the same room. Where only here in the world could there had been the real life size comparison finally of the two greats that has been interpreted countless amounts of times already in books and art size concept size charts online.
I used to have lectures every week in a building called the zoological institute (i study psychology, but i guess that was the only place that was available). It’s quite small but in the hall there are a lot of preserved animals, taxidermy or kept in alcohol which always creeped me out. They also have a skeleton of a whale hanging off the ceiling. But its hanging just by wires and looks very unstable. I could not, will not, would not walk underneath it. I (still) have this (ir)rational fear of it collapsing on top of me when i walk underneath it. I am that unlucky person that would happen to. Am i alone?
They said too many people were touching it even though the signs specified otherwise to do it and was causing damage. That's one reason I've heard. *Edit* just reading the comments of how it's a plastic mould and now my answer is completely obsolete... 🙃🙃🙃
unlkess they bring to all schools and colleges a documentary video to understand , specimen museum of science tht will be great package as per to understand the species globally will helpful specimen labs , zoology should upbring the level of presentation in their documentary
wow boring whale never goin there again Edit:it has been 2 years and I realised how important that animal is as it is the most biggest animal in the world.

Well said
I will miss it too but they are stepping into the future teaching people about our world now and how the outcome will be later

We do have a full skeleton more or less, if you combine specimens. What do you think the cast was molded after?

I visited the natural history museum in early 2020 from Australia, I was absolutely blown away by this skeleton. I hope I can come back sometime soon.

0:35 we nearly had the titanic meme 'it's been 84 years'
Signing it seemed to really cheapen the experience tbh

It's been 1 year but... you are not the only one having that fear. I also fear that!
@@HarryJamesPotter7 yeah Neville had that happening once with those bloody pixies 😂
I hope Dippy will be back one day, and even if it's not to be she left a very lasting legacy
I miss Dippy but Hope is a good replacement.
What is the point tho? Everyone loves the diplodocus
Having seen both, I love dippy but I actually think I prefer the whale.

He’s on a tour in the uk ❤️
The blue whale is the largest animal that we know of to inhabit this earth. That's pretty substantial as a reason why.
What are they doing with dippy then
taking a tour around london or something
