Looks fun, Chuck. I am not clear how the toroid end of the wire does not twist at the reel. An assembly (disassembly?) video might help.
That said, the fixed line end on my old spinning reel would not twist at all. Got me thinkin'. Hmm.

Lee I plan to do a build video if seems there is interest. Didn't have time in this video, basically I just have a hole to the inside and a ring connector.

@@KK6USYHamRadioAdventures hopefully you can source a bigger reel. I think you could get the ones I bought shipped to the US

I use a metal self retracting tape measure. Works a real treat. George in The Uk ps you can get them up to 100ft but non auto retracting.

Looks great! The 41' 9:1 is one of the antennas on my list to tryout soon. It's awesome that the 710 tuned it on all bands. I like how you incorporated the stake for it too.

Great video!! Been thinking of something like this myself, you just inspired me to order a couple of inexpensive fly fishing reels off Amazon to give this a try. Thanks for sharing this out!!!

Hi all. Nice project. With respect to what wire is used: I believe I’ve had negative impacts from having insulated wire looped on itself at the transformer end of an EFHW, but if the spool is at the far end, the coiled wire is basically invisible from an RF perspective. So, I would recommend using non-insulated/bare wire for this application. It’s certainly not as thin & flexible as silicone wire, but this polystealth wire is already a little tricky to deal with.

I wonder how it would work with another fishing pole at the reel end? If you get the wire up 8' at that end, then you don't have to worry about people walking into the wire.

@@KK6USYHamRadioAdventures Yeah I just thought it might stop someone walking into your wire, when set up in a public park. Walmart has some cheap little curly curl fishing rod stake holders that might work, too.

I don't know how I missed this one. I've thought of doing something similar with a 9:1 and a second with a 49:1. Never thought of the flip up ground steak though. That's a great idea. You could carry both in a pack with minimal weight. Did you do a video showing how you made it. If not I think it would be a great video. Like I said I'm subscribed with notifications on and if I missed this one what else did I miss???

I didn't do a build video yet but I think I will soon. I printed another plate that I upgraded how to get the wire to the toroid so I could tear down and show the steps, not sure on the YT feeds.
