Couldn't agree more I always quickly skip through thier videos. First just to see if there is any sled action longer than a 5 second clip but 9 times out of 10 it's just some dude talking... nothing really interesting to keep me wanting to watch.
Would have loved to see the engine setups. More under the hood shots. I was glued to this video from start to finish. This is my kind of entertainment.
I loved Tony Applegat's 440 snowmobile. I work shakily on lightening a trail from -88. The bogie is fully built, is made of cromemolly tubes. I'm interested in how Tony did the steering in the front, in front of the engine. If there are more pictures of it, I would be grateful. Best regards Mike.
Love it! So many memories. My first mountain sled was a 94' 580 Mountain Cat that I dropped the track, tapered and chopped the tunnel. Narrowed the A arms. Didn't have any money for performance parts so it was all cut, weld, and rivet. It didn't look all the great but it moved through the deep snow very well for what it was. It's incredible how far the new sleds have come.
loved the video. iv got a 99 summit x with the 670 ho some guy built in 2000 to go to revy every weekend. shes all done up. Dropped and rolled chaincase, aftermarket tunnel and everything anodized that the dealer probobly sold then. would be a blast to ride it with some other sleds of the same era.
The kids mountain sled is the best one for me. A true kids sled! Not some underpowered can't go threw 10 inches of snow type. That is sick! Beside the full custome sleds, I have either worked on, owned, or road them all. I picked up a 4 banger a few years ago for 500 bucks!! Had 1 smoked piston and I just replaced the one and still runs today. P.s., I lived 8 miles from polaris from 1990 to 2000. I got so see and ride just about everything they made. But of course they were mountain sleds (not that they existed back then). If you are looking for these old sleds, check out all the for sale stuff from MN and ND. They are out there, still in someone's barn out here. They are everywhere here.
Awesome vid, awesome sleds, great interview with everyone, you have to do more of these whether it's old or new sleds, sled builds and story's make great content. Love those 90's sleds, it was the heyday of sleds, sales through the roof.
Got to ride Norm Ekholms fully modded vmax 4 back in late 90's...that thing was stupid fast and went anywhere...a total mountain rocket.....my sled was a fully modded 700 powder special with a huge 144, 2 inch ...lol... these are machines you actually had to ride....miss those days...great vid...cant wait for ride vid to drop... From my melting/freezing igloo on the mountain in grande cache alberta Canada 🇨🇦 D.
Was fortunate to live in Sumpter, OR outside of Baker City. Great riding for my unsupervised 16 year old self and my 97 Summit 670. Had no idea I'd see someone from the area on here, but it is a huge snowmobile area anyways.
I love vintage sleds much older than y'all are going to ride. Admittedly I'm a Yamaha guy. When that vmax came out, oh so wanted to hear it. Then the blue head. All the other side too. You're an icon promoting vintage sleds. What's not to love
Agree with what you said about the challenges being enjoyable! I havent ridden in a few years now, but my last sled was a shorty skidoo XP 800 -10 and I had to push that machine really hard in the mountains, it was easy when there was spring snow here in Sweden though! Before that sled I had a rev 440 -06 and rode it in the mountains as well, that was fun.
I'd love to bring my piped Ultra down for one of these but it's just a 121 full studded tail sled. Hopefully I'll have a PSI 740 mod wedge built next summer.
my friend have a 74 Polaris he can't parts to fix it anymore. which he had the knowledge and good connection on out to fix it. thing is so small but damn cool.
I don’t know if Jim’s sled was there but State Line Polaris would run sleds on the grass near my house when I was young, when I heard them running I would pedal my ass towards the sound and watch them rip. Does my 2020 count as old iron now?
I prefer the older snowmobiles. They are much lighter. If they get stuck, you can lift it out by yourself. Forget it with the newer ones that weigh 1,000 lbs.!
Just a question...is the sled you working on Norm ekholms fully modified red vmax 4 by any chance??? If it is I rode that thing and it was stupid fast...
Wish the camera would show the sleds more - it just locks on the people talking when their discussing parts on the sleds

Hey I'm the guy who built the 99 700 at 8:10. Built it as you see it here when i was 17. Cool to see the sled still kicking around!
Dang.. Imagine building a sled like that at the ripe old age of 17 ;)

Loved every second of this video! From the East Coast now wanting something bigger than my CrossFire 700 and SnoPro800. 😍😍😍

18 minutes in I'm screaming at my computer show me the damn sled!
Agree

Last year I bought a 850 assault. The last snowmobile I rode before that was 20 years ago. It was a 99 xc. As you can imagine I was blown away
I remember seeing those Holtz builds, at Puyallup snow show, 20 + years ago. At the time it was so tall, compared to everything else.
Absolutely love it! Maybe next year! Nice work!
Thank you
To me old iron is the old Yamaha 440 SRX and the Kawasaki Interceptor 550 but opinions vary.
Man I wish I could get ahold of an old buddy with his 680 triple that weighs 440 lbs wet and come join you fellas 😅
Such awesome builds That turbo 700 is wild haha
I love the old iron. My rides are a 2005 700 xc sp f/o, and 1980 Polaris TX-L.
Loving the Idaho No Vacancy hat!
It would be great if they showed more of the sleds than the people..
Yesssss! Hit the mark on this video!

I live in Milton-Freewater, Oregon...that's wild!!!
I had 10,000 miles on a 99rmk. Twin pipes, dial-a-jets, heel clicker weights and a cheater head. It was so much fun!!
Love the mini 440 !
Great job Tony! go show em what ya got!

I ran across one of wongs old polaris / skidoo builds this summer on a job site. Maybe inshould give the guy a call lol.
This is the video I was waiting for! The ride was awesome but I wanted to hear about the sleds sooo bad! I love it!
Glad you liked it! The stories were the best 🤟
I live in cascade idaho as well…. I think it’s time I go out and try to do some apprentice shop help for Tony Applegate.
my friend have a 74 Polaris he can't parts to fix it anymore. which he had the knowledge and good connection on out to fix it. thing is so small but damn cool.
Makes our vintage backcountry ride look like a joke
Best thing about all this - not a damn Ski Doo in sight!
Had a everest 500 and a 600 rmk back in the day. On a summit 600 right now
Makes me miss my 2000 700 rmk Zollinger chassis. Let her eat boys!

Is this ride open to Doos? I've got a ZX Summit that my Dad snow checked back in '02, if you need some variety in your sleds!
I prefer the older snowmobiles. They are much lighter. If they get stuck, you can lift it out by yourself. Forget it with the newer ones that weigh 1,000 lbs.!
That old 800 Chris got from the PNW, if it came from washington, I think I've ridden that thing.
Chris is that a mn trail sticker on the turbo 02
This is amazing!
Fuckin cool!!!.... still have a Chris Brandt Helmet .. for 2 of the Polaris Ultra's.. I just had ,had to sell ..miss thos sleds! Cheers 🍻
cant wait till i have enough save for my dream sled.. 03 F7..
Fun video, but we want to see the sleds…. Completely missed the Mark there lol
I love seeing Team Blue invading BBA.
I’m in the middle of redoing the old owner of Ekholm, mountain max mod. Looking for a attac system or dial a jet system. Any leads?
Just a question...is the sled you working on Norm ekholms fully modified red vmax 4 by any chance??? If it is I rode that thing and it was stupid fast...
No, it’s not the vmax, it’s his 98 mountain max 700, with mad max hood. It’s been seriously neglected and going under a serious overhaul.
I had a 96 650 tripple. Changed the game
Not one cat or even skidoo come on man
This video makes me not feel crazy. My first mod sled was a 98 600 rmk and I’d love to afford to buy and build another one one day.
Not enough snowmobiling but cool sleds
Dude dropped his yammy on Dickheads Polaris.🤨
Be nice to see a f7 stretched out
Waiting for snow to pull my 98 xlt 600 out
