UA, the problem is you let the poutine sit too long. You gotta eat it immediately as you're served it. That way the fries are still crispy underneath the gravy and the cheese curds are still 95% intact and squeaky and only about 5% melted. Those are the perfect conditions for poutine. You can't get poutine delivered or hold on to it for more than 5 minutes, it has to be consumed immediately upon assembly. Also, I think their balance of ingredients are a bit off compared to how they are in Canada, much less gravy is needed. They are completely soaking it in gravy which is melting the curds TOO much. Curds should be almost cold still and just slightly melted, not turning into liquid. That way you get the satisfying squeak and full flavor. Best thing to do is request the gravy in a separate cup so that you can control when and how much gets put on to the fries so that the fries stay crispy and you don't completely melt the curds.
True, but he also needs to do the reviewer thing. It's a balancing act. I think he was right to start with the dog as dogs go crappy sooner. But mabye review the dog for a bite or 2, then move on to the poutine.

Time is the enemy of Poutine! You waited too long to eat it. After 10 minutes soaking in that gravy while you do a hot dog review would make the best fry soggy and the squeakiest curd soft and mushy.
Hey UA, awesome that you loved NY Fries, it’s great. Some of your complaints may have been because you waited too long to eat it. Also, the smaller size is more crispy and less mushy as you said. Lastly, the gravy you speak of comes from a powder, they mix it with hot water and stir it with a whisk . It’s not fresh and I don’t even believe it’s beef gravy, it used to be but they changed it to just a generic gravy. Flavour was the same but probably just all artificial and less beef base. UA, you've got to come to Canada and try a Casse-Croute in small town Quebec. A Casse-Croute is simply the Quebec equivalent to a Fry Stand. The best poutines come with gravy and curds halfway, and then top it off with more gravy and curds. Squeak, squeak!! Cheers

UA my dude. Poutine is Fries, Gravy and Cheese Curds. You did it right. Fries, Gravy, Curds but the other options are not "Poutines" nor are they referred to on the Menu. Here is a quick primer..if it has curds, brown gravy and french fries it qualifies. It can have extra toppings if you like, such as chili, smoked meat, peas and carrots, fois gras...and so on. As long as the holy trinity is maintained, you can call it poutine. Other options are Nacho Fries, Crazy Fries, Cheezy Fries, Loaded fries, Chili Cheese fries...and so on. These are all delicious but not poutine. Here in Canada we used to find NY Fries in every mall. It was a staple through the 80's and 90's. Glad to see you so excited to try my 80's mall go too!
Love this UA, I'm Canadian and I love poutine I try to have it once a week to stay healthy. NYF is definitely a top spot for fast food poutine in Canada, a couple other notable ones are Smokes Poutine, Philthy Philly's, Harvey's. Have a good one

I don’t like saying this but you usually talk too much and therefore the food gets cold. The analysis suffers as a result. A balance between the dialogue and sampling of food would be helpful.
American who has lived in Canada 25 years with a son now in Montreal. New York Fries is not as bad a representation of poutine ad Dominoes is to pizza, but it's at the best middle-of-the-road compared to the better places in Montreal. Best poutine I've had was in London, Ontario, which until recently was pretty poor as a restaurant city (them more immigration from around the world brought more varied and good food). Local place that prided itself on rethinking classics did poutine that replaces the fries with discs of potatoes so crisp on the outside that they their texture held up in a great, home-made gravy. The textual contrasts really elevated the dish.
I dunno, I've had like 10 of the top suggested poutine spots in Montreal and I think NY fries blows most of them away. With NY fries you ALWAYS get perfectly cooked, moist on the inside and crispy on the outside, potato skin fries. They are extremely consistent. With mom and pop places, it can be all over the place with bad or dry fries, bad flavored gravy, not enough curds etc. NY fries has been around for over 40 years all over Canada for a reason. It has really stood the test of time and critique all over Canada.
Hey, you a, Canadian here. I love New York fries. I especially love their fries just plain maybe with a little salt and a sprinkle of malt vinegar. That is the best way to have New York fries, plain and simple. I do, however, like poutine. if you ever get back to Canada and have a Costco membership try out to Costco food court, their poutine is pretty good too. The fries are just OK but the hot gravy and real cheese curds are really good. Pre-Covid I used to love going to the food courts and malls for New York fries. I haven’t had New York fries since before Covid, and I probably won’t again because I’m still afraid of going to malls

New York Fries are good. But iconic routine? You have to go to Montreal for that. Every place in Canada like Wendy's burger king and mcdonalds do routine now. But any place like NYF that makes handcut fries is iconic really mmmm
Canadian from Ottawa here. So "national poutine chains" aren't really a thing here in Canada. Is poutine available in national chains? Almost everywhere, yes. It's always there available on the menu pretty much anywhere you go that has fries up here. And yes there are chip trucks selling it everywhere in any town in any size. Thing is, there is no Canada-wide chain that puts poutine as the top focus. Why? Because it is 100percent not needed here.
@@ThePowergoats I remember Smoke's. It was actually the first poutine I'd ever had and I thought it was a pretty good deal when they opened their first US location in Berkeley, California. There were other places that served poutine including a French takeout place (they have superb fries) and the now defunct (except as a bulk meat seller) Augie's Montreal Deli. Some places I've been to with fries do poutine. I was in BC once and had a burger that came with fries, and poutine instead was something like a $1.50 add on. Was way too much food to begin with, but what the heck.

After reading some comments, I will have to give Poutine another try. Being my first time trying it, I got it to go from a local restaurant. By the time I got home, got ready to eat, some time had passed. The result was a molten pile of shit! To be fair, this stuff should be eaten quickly.
That was certainly a lesson learned for you. There's like an optimal point to eat it where the curds are just starting to get melty and the fries still have some crispiness.
Yeah, with poutine you have to be careful because most places don't make it well. You can't have it delivered or take it home, it can only be consumed as soon as they are handed to you. Simply because the fries have to be perfectly crisp even though the hot gravy is in the process of soaking them and the curds. The curds also have to be almost COLD. The gravy should only melt them like 3% max because you still need the curds to be squeaky and to taste the salty flavor of the curds. So these conditions can easily get messed up if the person who is making it has no clue how to keep the correct balance of ingredients or you hold on to it too long before eating it.
It’s almost comical at this point how much my man talks before he eats only to complain how soggy his food gets. 😂

Did you really type that much
@@varunaX It seems I did! Easier with a keyboard.
Ya, we always called it fries and gravy with cheese and I lived in Maine for a while. 😁😁
Thank you for the content sir!
Love this UA, I'm Canadian and I love poutine I try to have it once a week to stay healthy. NYF is definitely a top spot for fast food poutine in Canada, a couple other notable ones are Smokes Poutine, Philthy Philly's, Harvey's. Have a good one
This channel is good insomnia cure. I fall asleep before he even eats the food he knows nothing about.
I think Smoke’s Poutinerie is the largest poutine chain. They opened a few locations in the US but closed all of them.
UA, love the videos! Normally most of the negative comments are just trolls but in this case as some honest feedback, I think it would be okay for you to take one bite of every item as soon as it arrives, THEN talk. Or at least clip that first bite and throw it in after you talk?
I m a subscriber...I watch however I find myself becoming very annoyed...cuz u don't listen to ur comments. Eat first while fresh...then talk...try everything b4 it sits. Plz also don't keep food on ur fork n show it while u REPEAT the same comments..juz fkn eat it...then u have something to say about it. And the clown music has already been said to b annoying also. U hear???
@xoreign..Sorry, no troll here. He talks way too much in these videos about nothing. If he has to stretch these videos out just do it with less talking. These are unwatchable
I like the variety. You got them fancy expensive meals but you also got cool restaurants and food court stuff that is what people likely eat everyday
Waited 8 minutes before eating the poutine, of course its not gonna be that good.
He gets that Mark Wiens "yummy face"..😂😂
Bro waited an eternity to eat his poutine and complains about it 🤣
Its not fair that you can damage the reputation of a restaurant, just because you talk to much, or eat something else first...
The poutine looks good!
That's an appetizer for me😂
Tina’s a snack
Just opened one in Smithhaven mall on Long Island and really like the chili fries, dogs aren’t bad either
Love this channel!
Thank you!
Looks delicious
Where is the eagles hat lol? Keep
Up the content my guy you’re rocking it!
Thanks! It's for cold weather. You'll see it in the Fall
i was preparing my ramen and playing this in the background. finished my ramen and he still didn't even eat his poutine yet🙄
Papaya King: "Tastes better than Filet Mignon" - While waiting on the movie theater line, a starving Kramer ran across the street to P.K. to grab a Hot Dog in Seinfeld 🌭😋🤣🤣🤣
I don't want a movie hot dog. I want a papaya king hot dog!
5:30 - Does this Canadian shop get potatoes from Prince Edward Island?
Yes UA we 'Sconnies take our cheese curds VERY seriously, Particulary when they're fresh and squeeky!
TALKIN' POUTINE ! OK you have to go to Quebec city at ''Ashton'' the real deal! Also there you can try the ''Dulton'' : poutine with ground beef.
I think most Canadians would not be caught dead ordering fast food poutine. NY fries used to be the best thing about going to the mall but, like malls, it has really gone down.
I had a grilled cheese sandwich from that food court.
Harveys, a fast food chain in canada introduced Poutine for the rest of the country in the early 90s. They still make a decent poutine for fast food. Look them up if you ever come back up UA.
Dang, that looks good.
you talked until your food got soggy.
7:08 "The healthiest lunch of all time." Thanks, UA. Thanks a lot. You owe me a coffee and a keyboard.
12:16 Yeah, looks like you didn't enjoy that hot dog at all! :)
Cold water bath is to get rid of excess starch i believe
He came for the poutine and it took him over 13 minutes to finally get into them. Need to eat them when hot and fresh. Waiting so long leaves them wanting... :( UA new rule for you. EAT FIRST! TALK LATER!!!
@@skatingcanuck9837 "set up your shorts" xd It's not professional shooting with light etc. he literally has handy camera and a one mic. Setting this thing up is a few seconds deal.
UA come on man your video was about trying one of Canadas biggest poutine chains, the entire video is 19:45 and you didn't try the poutine till 13:00 and that was just the curd. your starting to get little long in your narrations a short on the actual food taste test. 🙄
😮 holy cow!!! Newport Malllll !!! Wow, the memories! 😢
the best potatoes come from idaho.......you need to soak them in water to pull the starch out and once the rinsing water is clear....you fry them
As always, another great review UA. I did like the hot dog better as not a fan of soggy fries. Wishing you and Tina a great weekend.
Thank you! The hot dog was good although quite overpriced imo. Agreed that it's a shame the fries got soggy as they are very excellent when fresh. Have a great weekend!
Come back and visit Toronto! Get the famous lobster tower just north of the city
here @ AU, for something similar, you just go to a kebab shop and get a snack pack
I haven't been to america it's all new jersey to me!
The fact that you can get this in America now? Dudes been under a rock
Well New York fries just opened in 2024 in America.
The one on Long Island at Roosevelt field has very nice staff however they were soooo slow (just for a hot dog) when they first opened, I have had reservations going back, especially when I come with an apetite.
New York Fries are good. But iconic routine? You have to go to Montreal for that. Every place in Canada like Wendy's burger king and mcdonalds do routine now. But any place like NYF that makes handcut fries is iconic really mmmm
Disagree, lots of Montreal poutine is complete trash. At least NYF has been consistent for 40 years. You never get bad fries there.
Smoke's? I do find it ironic that they couldn't seem to survive in Quebec.
@@ypw510 A poutine chain with an English name... not hitting it big in Quebec. Wow. What a freaking mystery. 🤣🤣🤣 j'men calice!!!!
@@ThePowergoats
I remember Smoke's.
Why in the hell would you want the hot dog saltier?
i cant remember the last time i saw a nyf in canada
They’re still there, have one in Coquitlam Centre Mall, Port Coquitlam, BC. Been there 20 years plus.
There are tons in Ontario.
@@FunkyChild718 what are you a mall rat?
UA, for hot dogs, you have to try “1950 Original” in Westwood, NJ! We have gone their s few times and we love it! Large, deep-fried dogs - and you can get all beef or a beef/pork dog. And the Tallow fries are delicious! Hopefully we see you there!
These reheat really good in an air fryer.
Nah you can't reheat poutine, lol. The curds can't be melted, that's why they have to be eaten immediatley.
I've been wanting to try poutines for years but never got to as I haven't been to Canada in a good while. I didn't even know you had these places here in America as poutines are practically non existent here. I always said I'd try one from Smoke's
a really good poutine chain is smokes poutinerie, you should give it a shot the next time your in canada
They had maybe five locations in the United States including the first in Berkeley, California. College town. Place open until 2 AM selling munchies. Makes sense.
Less talking UA more eating, don't complain about soggy fries ,if you spend most of the time talking rather than actually eating the food you ordered, while it's at its best 👌🏿 you clearly enjoy cold food . Let Tina do the reviews in future
I’m from Quebec and never heard of NY fries lol
They only have 1 location now in carrefour Laval.
im from cnada, try it with ketchup and pepper
After reading some comments, I will have to give Poutine another try. Being my first time trying it, I got it to go from a local restaurant. By the time I got home, got ready to eat, some time had passed. The result was a molten pile of shit! To be fair, this stuff should be eaten quickly.
That was certainly a lesson learned for you. There's like an optimal point to eat it where the curds are just starting to get melty and the fries still have some crispiness.
@@kevwwong Agreed. The ingredients were all fresh, I fucked up by waiting, lesson learned
@@MrBluesilverred We've all been there, my friend.
