I am 60 and in 20’s in Undergrad my professor taught us Self Hypnosis. I used it when having horrific menstrual pain. Nothing got rid of it. And I can tell you miraculously. Self Hypnosis has helped me through so many physical challenges! It works! I tried one hypnotherapist for ongoing generalized pain it was not effective long term. However I am inclined to try again! Hopeful to find another and do it again. As I suffer from Fibromyalgia for 15yrs. No sleep. Bouts of Depression, on and off ongoing etc! Amazing there is an APP! Thank you to all for this wonderful episode!
I'm going to take so much from this one. I'm one of the people you do this for. I have a heavy load of illness and trauma and I don't have access to services. I found self hypnosis on UA-cam during a very bad period when my nervous system was just a mess and I was very bad off. I've used it for years now and I use it to sleep and for pain. This was such a great discussion and I'm so grateful. Bonus: My husband happened to come in during the smoking discussion and let me just say it was perfect timing.
@@Reverihealth I had surgery last August and had been in a lot of pain for a long time. I was maxed out on pain meds and when I woke up I was in a lot of pain. I asked my husband for my phone and put on a pain hypnosis. Before long my blood pressure was down and I was calm and as comfortable as can be expected. My nurse was happily surprised and asked me all about it. It's an amazing tool. Once you know you can have that kind of control over the mind body experience, it's a life changer. Thanks so much for all years of work and research.
I just finished listening to this on Spotify 🙂 I have the same question with Mayim, like why did she have to be hypnotized and then Dr. David explained and now I know why. I also have asthma, living with asthma requires regular monitoring, medication, and a proactive approach to maintain respiratory health and managing asthma can be challenging, with potential struggles like sudden attacks, lifestyle adjustments, and the constant need for precautionary measures. I really enjoy how Mayim explains things, especially the sections when she applies a neuroscience viewpoint. I feel like a student learning from her favorite teacher 😁❤ Honestly, i learned a lot in this episode, while I can't express it all here, I have it all in my "MBB Notes" and in my thoughts ❤ Thank you for today's new episode MBB Team ❤ Glad to see you again Mayim and Jonathan! 😊
Look into doctor Barbara O'neill. It can't hurt you so it's worth a try to do natural remedies. She was a real doctor but saw our so called "health care system" only treats our symptoms to profit from us, keeping us sick, all just for money. She was sick of it thus highly specialised herself healing with natural remedies. She healed thousands of people and has retreat etc. She's on UA-cam, social media etc. I remember she also had cure for asthma. Look into it. I had multiple chronic illnesses, which I was able to heal naturally. Love from the Netherlands 🙏💚🌷🇳🇱
Excellent podcast with Dr. Spiegel. By learning how to manage somatic response to stress, trauma and instrusive thoughts, we can better understand ourselves in a new perspective.
I have just been thinking about trying hypnosis for pain management as well as intrusive thoughts about a work colleague stalker of 14 yrs that never cease - it seems. Then the algorithms of my phone put this in my feed. So maybe it's good our phones listen to us, ha!
I did the hypnosis practice while Jonathan was doing it and it was very successful! I repeated it again and both times I discovered something from my 8th year that I'd forgotten - an important memory. My mind said, "Oh, I remember this! Where has it been all this time?" Thank you to Mayim, Jonathan and Bernie.
I gave birth to my son 35 years ago exactly as Mayim, with no anesthesia but at a hospital. Upsetting all the staff there but my OB and friend. Not calling pain but disconfort, not contractions but strong surges. Then, this was uncommon here. Today I’ve learnt that in a quite ignorant but humbly way I learnt that day to dissociate a theoretically uncomfortable experience (As my son was born in July I imagined that I was pleasantly sailing to get my kid, and that surges were sudden changes of wind..) I’ve used this self-taught “ability” other times. As five days ago, when my surgeon remove an skin benign tumor in my down part of the heel without anesthesia. Western docs say that my “pain” thereshold is very hight, now I know I learnt 35 years ago to manage “pain” better..to the point that I broke a kneecap few years ago, without “feeling” what others would say the pain it makes you feel…Maybe a kind of self-hypnosis? So much to learn in this episode that I’ll rewatch again calmly during the week.
It's because the thumbnail introduced Doubt before anyone clicks they think they are seeing something else this is a bad thumbnail for the hypnosis community in general but I'm not mad at her I'm sad and disappointed because the point in hypnosis is understand where doubt was introduced to your own life and self beliefs and changed your original instincts ❤ introducing doubt is a government manipulation tool
Thank you, thank you, thank you Mayim and Jonathan for this incredible episode! I'm a hypnotherapist and I still get the "quack like a duck" (or chicken) comments, which is frustrating. People still don't get it for some reason, even though it's an amazingly effective tool for managing and healing so many physical and emotion issues.I'm grateful for people like Dr. Spiegel who continue to share what they know and spread the word about hypnosis and hypnotherapy. My favorite episode!
Thank you for sharing, this is what we are seeing with 1:1 hypnosis with a hypnotherapist as well as the sessions in our app. 94% of our app users felt less stressed after just one session!
@@Reverihealth - I may very well have to try the app! It’s been years since I did 1:1 hypnosis but it definitely helped, & my stress / anxiety levels have been consistently high for months, possibly years now. Thank you for your response. I’ll look into the app! 😊
This was great! Love MBB!! A few years ago I was regularly listening to Michael Sealey’s UA-cam channel and he always leads with “All hypnosis is actually self hypnosis”. One night when I was having trouble falling back to sleep, I decided to try to use self hypnosis. This is what I did, I made up this script and repeated it silently: “With every breath, with every sound, with every thought, I go deeper down. (repeat) With every breath, with every sound, I go deeper down. When I say my mantra 5 times, I will drift off to sleep.” Note: the mantra is anything you choose as your mantra, any word or phrase. I just create it during the hypnosis. I practice this all the time and I wake up hours later, never remembering drifting back to sleep. Try it. It works like magic 💫💤
Hypnosis is another tool we have to use in our behalf, as yoga, meditation, etc.., so why in some places has such “bad image”? Is it because all those fake stage sessions? I’ve liked a lot Dr. Spiegel & brave Jonathan accepting to be hypnotized live in the episode! As Jonathan beeing very active today! Yes, Dr. Spiegel, Spaces Give Feelings! (Word of an architect here). So maybe Jonathan needs your son & my collegue to help him to transform a house in a home..😉
Dr.spiegel was amazing. He is so intelligent, well spoken and humble. Such a smart man but not even an ounce of superiority complex.loved it. Thanks to mayim and Jonathan and ofcourse dr. Spiegel for this interview. It was delightful.
The power and potential that hypnosis has to heal both mind and body is amazing. In trained and experienced hands, it can get to the root of all sorts of issues and ailments. Speaking from personal experience as a hypnosis client.
1:18:00: "Let It Be" rings in my head for SO MANY different circumstances in life!!! Then, in the aftermath of each one, you feel stronger for being able to recognize & accept things for what they really are. And only then will you know you're not lying to yourself!! 😉✌️❤
As someone who started reading about psychology, how to treat phobias, nutrition AND hypnotism as a twelve-year-old (8th grader), I found this to be fascinating! I haven’t listened to the whole thing, but I wonder how neurodivergence and/or music played during a hypnosis session affect suggestibility? I ask because even after years of Training in Mindfulness, breathing and martial arts-related practices, I had a frightening experience with an energy healer … despite having had training in energy healing as an amateur self-practitioner.
Try as I might, I have been very unable to build my social network of friends and my family has shown their true colors. So that isn't as easy as it sounds, especially if you are ill.
Can hypnosis help people going through the extreme and often terrifying side effects when tapering off prescribed benzodiazapines? Im doing a slow & low taper but my nervous system is extremely dysregulated. Can hypnosis help???
Amazing interview enjoyed it a lot! @mayim did you use any specific hypnosis for your birth? I'll be giving birth within the next week's and am still looking for the ideal meditation/hypnosis 🙌
Very interesting!! I am one who has typically poo-poo'd hypnosis; I'm skeptical by nature. This doc has such a non-creepy way of describing the process/effects & not overselling it. In an hour & a half, I now find myself intrigued (but still skeptical). Going to take the test; if I'm amenable, I definitely have some medical issues that could use other/additional treatments. Doesn't surprise me that Dr. Siegel landed & is thriving at Stanford. I've been seeing those amazing doctors there for most of my adult life. To a one, careful listeners who can think outside the box.
The hypnotic state can be as long or short as the user intends. Some of the sessions in our app are only a couple of minutes long, where as other hypnosis sessions can be much longer!
this question/ issue is critically imminent; can self hypnosis be used by my 13 yo granddaughter for self cutting and suicide thoughts/plans along with DBT
I had a doctor many years ago. Dr. Levitan. He was on 20/20 or a show like that to demonstrate hypnosis in place of anesthesia. The woman in surgery woke up. Yikes. Sure use it for bunches of things but be a bit careful about just how far you think it can go.

It is more of a habitual practice in which you reprogram yourself, replacing a bad habit for a better one, much like meditation or even physical exercises, the more you practice, the better you get at it. It is also a practice in which "You" pull "Yourself" out of the mire, finding your own inner strength and taking control over your body and life, as opposed to abdicating your power to others, looking outside of yourself to fix what's inside yourself. Hypnosis is a tool one of many, not meant to work for everyone but for those it does help, it is a game changer.
Our work is clinically trialled and based on decades of research with varying addictions and habits. Hypnosis is also a process that is approved by the NIH. We are very proud of what we've achieved - try it, you might like it!
