1) the vatican city we know today isnt thousands of years old, the main part (st peters basilica) was built in the 1500s 2) a vast majority of the artwork in the vatican was commissioned, not stolen and then stashed away (remember the vatican really flourished in prosperity during the renaissance so a lot of their subsequent wealth was directed towards art). a bulk of the artwork that wasnt comissioned on site, eg the vatican obelisk, was just repurposed/repositioned preexisting roman monuments and, again, this was the renaissance - it was hellenistic and roman art that was primarily valued (obelisks were essentially seen as a roman thing by this time despite having been inspired by egyptian obelisks) not egyptian artwork (a lot of people seem to think theres egyptian influence present in the vatican when there just isnt really). 3) yes, archives containing ancient literary texts are ALWAYS CLOSELY MONITORED and it is entirely normal that the average dumbass wouldnt be let in and that academics would have to declare what text they were studying (and yes, they would be aware what texts were available). it isnt a library, its essentially a vault as modern archaeology’s main concern is now preservation of ancient sources above all else. this last point really annoys me, like does this guy just expect he be let into these archives and the bowels of pyramids, that are very easily degraded without the proper precautions, just so he can make himself out to be more of an idiot in not being able to read hieroglyphics, latin or ancient greek and raving about how his deficiencies in understanding ancient history are the aliens’ fault?

It’s wild to me anyone feels entitled to what is in the Vatican archives. Consider that for over 2000 years the fathers have collected and transcribed these books and manuscripts. Consider the amount of work and the dedication that it has taken not to have these books and such taken during times of war. 1) the vatican city we know today isnt thousands of years old, the main part (st peters basilica) was built in the 1500s
2) a vast majority of the artwork in the vatican was commissioned, not stolen and then stashed away (remember the vatican really flourished in prosperity during the renaissance so a lot of their subsequent wealth was directed towards art). a bulk of the artwork that wasnt comissioned on site, eg the vatican obelisk, was just repurposed/repositioned preexisting roman monuments and, again, this was the renaissance - it was hellenistic and roman art that was primarily valued (obelisks were essentially seen as a roman thing by this time despite having been inspired by egyptian obelisks) not egyptian artwork (a lot of people seem to think theres egyptian influence present in the vatican when there just isnt really).
3) yes, archives containing ancient literary texts are ALWAYS CLOSELY MONITORED and it is entirely normal that the average dumbass wouldnt be let in and that academics would have to declare what text they were studying (and yes, they would be aware what texts were available). it isnt a library, its essentially a vault as modern archaeology’s main concern is now preservation of ancient sources above all else.
this last point really annoys me, like does this guy just expect he be let into these archives and the bowels of pyramids, that are very easily degraded without the proper precautions, just so he can make himself out to be more of an idiot in not being able to read hieroglyphics, latin or ancient greek and raving about how his deficiencies in understanding ancient history are the aliens’ fault?

its an archive, not a library, this is how all archives of ancient sources work. the very delicate ancient texts housed are available to some academics who are trusted not to try eat the pages (like im assuming you would) for specific purposes of study and copies are available to the rest of us, easily printable on paper that isnt up to 2000 years old. can you read latin though? or ancient greek? or sanscrit? you quite easily learn and read the ‘secret archives’ for yourself (the secret is most ancient archives are tax reports)
