Twist on gate valve - I drilled two small holes in the tabs and but two small screws in it. Keeps it from spinning off. The valve is a must have for all the reasons you talked about.
The biggest problem with fire extinguishers is when they sit for a long time bouncing up and down in the RV the powder packs down to the bottom. My recommendation is once a year turn it upside down and tap the extinguisher a few times to fluff up the powder.
OMG - yes, my egress window did the same thing and exploded into a million pieces. I replaced the window and now wrap a little piece of tape while driving. Thanks, Jared!
Excellent. Don't forget people, to check the date on your fire extinguisher. May seem expensive but every few years you need to budget for their replacement.
My first shakedown trip, that emergency window opened up when we hit a bumpy section. I take a rubber band and triple loop it. It works and I'm sure in an emergency its easy to break the rubber band... Great call on the Fire Extinguishers. You never know when you might need an extra, or even if your need to help a neighboring RV.
I've had my emergency exit window handle end up outside the RV just from the wind while camping. So I took apart a wooden clothes pin and wedge one side of the clothes pin into the hole the arm goes through when I have the window open so it can't be pulled outside again. 👍
Along with having a fire extinguisher in every room, it is a good idea to have a smoke detector in every room and basement areas also. Being the firefighter who had the fire in my son’s room, I realized that first hand. The one smoke detector in the living did not alert until I discharged the fire extinguisher. Luckily my son was in the room at the time of the fire and he alerted me very quickly. If he had not been in the room, the fire would have spread dramatically before the fire alarm began alarming. Initially the smoke was being held in the bunk room by the bulk head above the door. Almost all the smoke damage stayed in the bunk room.
Glad you could react so quickly. Contemplating the addition of a bunch of solar wiring in my cargo hold, I decided a smoke detector down there was a good idea, too.
Good point Steve. I should have mentioned it too, I actually forgot I did it but we added a smoke and CO alarm to the boys bedroom when we bought the RV. It’s ingrained into me to have one in each sleeping area. Thanks for letting me share your pictures and advice. I’m glad the fire wasn’t any worse than it was because you were able to get to it so quick. We added a couple extra lipo bags for Matt’s Rc batteries and have them in a little metal safe for extra measure and only charge while we are there. I hope you guys are doing good!
Thank you! Someone posted today that some whackadoo prankster pulled their tank valves and they wondered if someone had a suggestion to keep them from a poop bath. This extra could really have helped them.
Good reminder to check our fire extinguishers! We got several of the small "spray paint can" sized ones that can just sit on the counter and be grabbed quickly if there's a fire at the stove, etc. I meant to get more of these and completely forgot.
Great tips!! For the Valtera valve I had an issue that it kept coming off on me when taking off the cap. I added a metal vent clamp to the back side and tighten it down. Haven't had a issue yet since adding it.
Thanks for the tip(s)! We've been camping (weekend, holidays) for many years, and hoping to full time in the next 4-5 years. Needless to say..watching everything we can. Learned a few great tips and really appreciate it! Looking forward to seeing more videos
Speaking of emergency window exits, it is easy to forget about opening these windows from time to time to make sure they open properly. Failing to “exercise” these openings could result in the window to stick to the frame and make it difficult to use in an emergency. I make a point of checking the operation of these windows at the beginning of each season and once or twice during the season.
Thanks for the ideas. Yours is the most informative channel on you tube, we bought a new trailer last year and I have learned so much from watching you.
For the fire extinguisher, at least get a larger one than that little thing that comes from the trailer manufacturer. Our little one did a decent enough job trying to put a neighbor's campsite out (note - NEVER go to bed with your campfire still burning) but it was not big enough to complete the job; it did tamp it down enough until we could get a bucket brigade together at midnight. I replaced it with one about double the size, and bought another one for our tow vehicle. I feel a little more prepared for the next time I turn around late at night and see a wall of advancing flames.
I like the velcro for the escape window, but maybe a better solution might be those nylon breakable ties that are used for fire extinguishers. These would prevent the handle from bouncing loose but easily broken when needed.
Simple solutiion to the secondary waste valve with the bayonet ring for fast install and removal. Put a short sheet metal screw through the twist ring just long enough to make contact with pipe your mounting to. Tighten it only until it makes contact. Be sure to drill a pilot hole so the plastic doesn't crack. Now you can remove the add on valve if it has a problem as opposed to permanently mounted valve.
Also if you travel with friends, ask them where they keep their fire extinguisher if something happens when you know where to find it. And tell the kids too if they are old enough to handle one.
Dry chemical extinguishers can fail if left to sit for too long without being shaken as the powder compacts to the bottom, especially in an environment with vibrationsuch as a vehicle or RV. I shake my extinguishers upside down each month to reduce the risk of failure. This tip was told to me by a fire extinguisher technician.Happy trails
You can still solvent weld that bayonet style valve to make it permanent and more secure. Don't waste your money on abs welding solvent, though. Just dissolve a some abs (legos are abs) in acetone and you have the same thing.
Hey Jared I’ve got the same tubes on mine I just use small carabiner clip similar to yours as far as the valterra twist on gate valve I find it’s cumbersome using 2 hands then it wants to spin around I fully agree should have got the glue on one but it serves its purpose great from getting a surprise lol have a great day
Thanks for the continued adivice!!! We just purchased the similar model 278BH Reflection and have the two outlets for the tanks. How is the modification you did holding up with all your travels? It would make dumping the tanks so much easier.
While watching you put on your clear Rhino fitting for the sewer connection, my husband says why doesn’t ours go on that easily? It takes a lot of strength to get ours on and off. Almost need a wrench. It’s ridiculous and makes dumping so stressful. We also have one of those gate valves and love it.
If you think having extra fire extinguishers inside your RV is overkill, we have 2 additional 10 lb ones inside the rig, including one in the bedroom. Plus another 10 lb one in the bed of the truck. Those are a lot bigger than the one you showed.
good video but you should have talked about monthly fire ex. maintenance it greatly increases the reliability of the fire ex. this is even more important in a rv because of the vibration of going down the road.
I saw another RVer's UA-cam video in which he recommended adding the twist lock drain valve. He demonstrated how to use it to back flush his black tank. He connected his drain hose, opened the added valve, and then opened his black tank valve. After it finished draining, he closed the added valve and opened his gray tank valve. He said that sent gray water up into the black tank to help rinse it out. Then he opened the added valve and drained the gray water from both the black and gray tanks. It makes sense to me. What do you think of that idea?
Great tips as usual Jared! Adding on the extra valve was one of the first things I did on our current (older) camper. It drove me crazy every time I would go dump and there was always some liquid coming out! We've never had a camper with three tanks so one of those was always discharging just enough liquid to be annoying...
We follow your channel. How did you hang your US map picture and keep it from coming off. I purchased it from Amazon need the frame maker as well. Thank you
The front tube appears to be mounted to the frame. The rear appears to be attached differently somehow. How is the rear one mounted? I measured and the width of the frame isn’t enough to hold the 2 hoses I have. Looking for a solution. Do you have a detailed video of installation?
LOL....I just arrived at a campsite a few hours ago and found that my Stinky Slinky disappeared from the storage tube!!! Why didn't you post this last week??? it's all your fault!
Thanks for the tip on the window! I have the same exact GD emergency exit window and during a shakedown trip, the window was open and a strong gust of wind blew up on the window causing the rod to disengage and dangle on the outside. Thankfully we were set up at camp and not driving!
I take rubber mallet turn Fire extinguisher up side down and give the bottom two good wrack and you will feel the power moving also after 5 - 6 year the fire need be service ( that is take apart put new o-ring put power back in and presser Fire extinguisher some easy buy new one.
There are links in the description to Amazon Fire Extinguisher First Alert amzn.to/3xxxP01 Kiddie. amzn.to/3yHSUF5 but you can also get them from Lowe’s or Home Depot
Here is a free tip that will save you thousands..... Don't buy any of these poorly made garbage trailers. These slp together pieces of trash should be sued for the junk they push and the money they charge.
You’ve just reminded me to check the date on my fire extinguisher. And speaking of expiry dates...check your CO/LP detectors...they expire too.
I marked the expiration dates on the exterior of the devices with a Sharpie as a reminder.
Twist on gate valve - I drilled two small holes in the tabs and but two small screws in it. Keeps it from spinning off. The valve is a must have for all the reasons you talked about.
I did the same but used cotter pins.
We used a rubber hair tie on our window. Easy to remove, safe and secure. Great video. Thanks!!
Excellent advise. Never thought of the window with these crappy roads 👍👍👍
I keep three fire extinguishers in the coach and one in my tow car. Never far from one. Thanks for the video.
Several suggestions I can use, especially on the fire extinguisher. Thanks.
Great Video! Fire extinguishers usually have expiration dates!
One more I might add, always remember to roll your awning in if the wind gets to blowin’! Great video Jared 🤙🏼
We hardly ever get to use our awnings because of the wind, LOL
Great tips. Thanks.
It's the small things that kill. Thanks Jared!
You can still glue the twist on valve to the pipe
All about RV,S ?
Jared, loved the tip about the emergency window.
You could put a sheet metal screw through on of the prongs of the drain valve to keep it from coming off when you twist your hose on or off.
I put that same gate valve in last year and I have that same 45 degree sewer hose adapter…works great !!
Thanks for sharing👍

We have a total of four fire extinguishers! There only overkill if you don’t have a fire!!

So I took apart a wooden clothes pin and wedge one side of the clothes pin into the hole the arm goes through when I have the window open so it can't be pulled outside again. 👍
Smart!!
Thanks for the ah ha moment.
We've had this same problem - thank you for the tip!

We added 4 extras to our unit. One in the truck, one in the under belly, one upstairs in bedroom/bathroom and one inside of the rear of the unit.
Also, store your extinguishers in different locations. If a fire is in the cupboard with the extinguisher, your second extinguisher has got your back.
Great tips!!

Very good tips!
If you already have the twist on valve, you can saw the little notches off and glue it on.

Recommend as you said multiple fire extinguishers evej have one in the toe vehicle or dingy.
All good advice, thanks for sharing.
Dang, delta fire in the rig! That's a jettison metal fire!
I have 1/2 dozen fire extinguishers in the rig and toad!
Nice tips!
Thanks
Great points! Thank you!
Thanks, great advice / tips as always!

I have same valve its the only way to go it should be a standard from the factory.I used a set screw to secure my valve from turning.
Great videos.
Good idea
Did the same with two small screws to keep it from twisting.
Hey Jared I’ve got the same tubes on mine I just use small carabiner clip similar to yours as far as the valterra twist on gate valve I find it’s cumbersome using 2 hands then it wants to spin around I fully agree should have got the glue on one but it serves its purpose great from getting a surprise lol have a great day
Check out the Element fire extinguisher....seems to be superior to ordinary extinguishers..
I added a fire extinguisher to my outside kitchen. To me it’s a very likely place to have a fire threaten the TV.
Another great video!!
Thank you.
Add Fire extinguisher 5 Lb b-c type to your truck you remind me I need get New one for truck
Good tip!
Thanks for the continued adivice!!! We just purchased the similar model 278BH Reflection and have the two outlets for the tanks. How is the modification you did holding up with all your travels? It would make dumping the tanks so much easier.
I have an emergency blanket too

A little silicone spray can really help

Couldnt you glue the twist on one i got one but afrade of loosing it.
How about a how to use a fire extinguisher video!!
That’s a good idea.
Did you add the hose tubes underneath yourself?
I saw another RVer's UA-cam video in which he recommended adding the twist lock drain valve. He demonstrated how to use it to back flush his black tank. Mixing the two tanks is a BAAAD idea.
I lost a waste tube on SR 166.

I had our emergency window screen get sucked out.
Shake the fire extinguisher periodically, maybe part of the pretrip. Bouncing down the road the powder inside the extinguisher settles to the bottom
I take rubber mallet turn Fire extinguisher up side down and give the bottom two good wrack and you will feel the power moving also after 5 - 6 year the fire need be service ( that is take apart put new o-ring put power back in and presser Fire extinguisher some easy buy new one.

where y’all at?
Please come to Rumble
We had the emergency window come loose and ruin the hinge. Does anyone know of a source to buy a new hinge of that type? ✌🏻🇺🇸
Ironically ours broke while we were in Elkhart Indiana and walked in an RV supply place and they had them. I’m sure you can get one online.
If you cannot put out a fire with a single fire extinguisher, it’s time to drop the extinguisher and run.
