hey i was the conductor on this train, the reason for the derailment was bad rail. Our axle and wheels came off on one side of the car, we’re lucky it wasn’t a lot worse!
Yup
Thank god y’all was ok and not badly injured how long did this take to fix and or did you outlaw by the time it was fixed?
Good you stopped it before worse happened
the car is not really attached to the truck the pin on the bottom of the car holds onto the truck but the weight of the car keeps the pin in place
In a world of modern derailments, this is the kind you want to happen if there has to be one.
Outstanding work! This could have gone a whole different direction but it didn't.
Can we take a moment to appreciate that 5th car back in the consist.
It's just a tagged covered hopper! Jeez
@@Paul070that's not a tag it's a full car piece. Autistic boomer.
@@Paul070but people who tag just to tag…it’s not even good. It’s like “tagging” hasn’t moved on since it started. When people actually make something impressive, that’s much more unique. Stupid squiggly letters nobody can read is lame. If you’re going to deface property, at least do something impressive.
Noticed it & appreciated it too.
An absolutely beautiful raccoon!
Great video. Thankfully, that was not as bad as it could easily have been.
1:39 he derails
Defect detectors are so cool. I wish I could find more footage on them.
here's some audio defectdetector.net/audio
Holy shit the entire truck came off
someone spot it, or did the airline fail?
@@rearspeaker6364 1:58 the airline goes
What I think happened was they didn’t put a truck on they slapped an axle on and said no this is fine
@@rearspeaker6364there was a UP signal maintainer there and he told us to bring it to a stop and it went into emergency at the same time
Intresting video, seems like something happened at 1:38. Then started braking, idk great video thanks for sharing😊
The KCS lucked-out on that one.
Wow!! Great video!! Glad it wasn't any worse.
yup!
Wowsers, thats was nasty, luckily, no one was hurt, like 411, i subbed your channel, Greetings from Portugal to the USA.
Train goes in emergency at 1:57. Side booms to the rescue!!
That should be the perfect place for a railcam in that area for trains
Convenient stopping point
I've seen a rail car missing an axle that was caught by a crew inspecting a train at their crew change location . The axle with wheels was never discovered . And it was a chemical car . No derailment , just a missing axle .
Holy crap, awesome video!
the truck was like "fuck this, they don't pay me enough for this shit"
🤣😆. Been there, done that. 😆 😂
Where the hell did the truck go?!
Yeah buddy!!!!!!!!!!! Nice catch!!!!!!!!!!
Great Catch!!
just under 3 hours for them to clear the car and the train moved on. Wow
but why not just rerail (as i have seen done before)? damage to the car? fault of the car? how was the engine alerted to go into emergency? did this break air?
It was an older car and probably cheaper to scrap it. The pin may have sheared and the truck rolled back may have damaged the linkage and metal air lines. Faster to just remove the car.
Talk bout johny on the spot 😅
Hmm where are they going with the grain car
How did the train crew know to stop the train? Someone must have called it in.
Its called a defect detector, Its a device that detects defects
They felt the pull. The DD wasn't for another mile ahead.
oh, might of been slowing the train down.
Actually, the crew didn't know what happened until the train went into emergency. There is no active detector in that location. The one in Rosenberg is no longer active. There was broken rail that caused the derailment. (The train stopped because the air hoses came loose and caused the train to go into emergency.)
Also, the train stopped so quickly because it was an empty grain train, and it really doesn't take much to slow it down.
Oh@@trainlover98
Now that was lucky.... could have been a lot worse if they had gone over a switch, or if that car went over the crossing...
we went through an interlocker and a switch after the car derailed, tore up the rail a bunch
Cool video and channel just subscribed
Train lengths are way too long now 😮
yea, due to PSR, some trains are combined@@tomstarcevich1147
where did the truck go? Who took it?
0:00 CSX!!!
Any chance of more footage?
no, sorry
that was a short , fast stop ! How was this OFF RAIL discovered? roadside rain detector?
it was a defect detector, and it probably derailed due to a diamond, and going extremely fast while entering the siding
The fast stop was probably caused by the train losing air when a brake line possibly disconnected throwing the train into emergency.
@@stevenelleby8685 exactly. Not a single detector picked it up because there was no DD til another mile.

Why?
OMG
We can appriciate CPKC for that....
yup lol
What are the vehicles that are moving the freight car
Not sure
@@greaterhoustonrailfan okay
They are called sidewinders. Google Hulcher sidewinder.
Thank you
Something At The Back Of The Train Causes It To Stop.
the FRED (the blinking red light thing at the back of the train) measures the air pressure in the brake hose and transmits that information via radio to the locomotives. An emergency stop is much more controlled if it's done from the back of the train and the FRED has the ability to dump the air. Part of the reason why there used to be cabooses with a person was so they could dump the air from the back end, the most extreme example being that for some reason the crew in the locomotive passed a red signal

The 118th car
damn, you counted?
@@greaterhoustonrailfan yes, I usually do. Between 200-250 cars (i.e. coal trains) is equal to 12-15,000ft of train
I counted a loaded coal train and it had around 110 with 4 locomotives, and a gravel train with 130 cars had 5 locomotives.@@UP6706_Central_Iowa_Railfan
@@greaterhoustonrailfan it all depends on the weight of the train as well. 130 cars would roughly be 50,000 tons of more. That's why they need 5 locomotives, if they had 2 it would be a struggle to pull it up hill
@@greaterhoustonrailfansometimes they bring extra power to that destination, not every engine is on. I have seen a 240 car mixed freight train with 4 engines. Also, you should give a shout-out to the railstream. Because they may think that your stealing video content. Because you never know these days, just like live trains in Houston, they had an incident with a UA-camr with Franky M and so did I. Just be careful of what you post. Also I almost caught that on film in person but I left 20 minutes before it showed up
was this today cause if so i was gonna go but didnt because we have important stuff to do
yes
womp womp
very sick and watch this get stolen by a bunch of kids that recreate train crashes in roblox with NO credit
yea, but the video came from railstreams live cam
Roblox train crash videos are insanely stupid.
