From one classic show, to another. There will never be another show, like both Diff'rent Strokes, and The Facts of Life (both with great and catchy theme songs). Rest in Peace, Conrad Bain, Gary Coleman, Dana Plato, and Charlotte Rae.
Back in the day I hated this show but I didn't know about the first season which I discovered and watched on local TV quite recently. Julie Ann Haddock, Julie Piekarski, Felice Schachter & Molly Ringwald were just gorgeous. Classic 70's beauties. Great pity they dropped them all in Season 2 and on (except for a few cameos). I missed the start of the season so it's nice to see it here (although the quality was better on TV).
I agree with you. I especially had a big crush on Julie Piekarski, she was so cute. Wish she had stayed on the show longer, especially if they kept her in those cute little shorts!
This isn’t the pilot episode, the pilot episode didn’t have Natalie and Kimberly asked Miss Garrett to help sew costumes it was an episode of Diff’rent Strokes.
Not sure why you got 9 "likes" on this. Everybody in the universe who has ever seen this SHOW knows this is the pilot. The one you said was the last episode of Different Strokes! Everyone knows THAT!
3:35- Despite the whole ostensible reason for Mrs. G. being at Eastland due to it being Kimberly's school and them drafting her to sub for a housemother, this is the very last time Kimberly gets seen or even mentioned on 'Facts of Life' This despite the fact that in 'Diff'rent Strokes', Kimberly was STILL supposed to be boarding at Eastland for the next few years despite never again crossing paths with Mrs. G. or any of the other characters on the show!
I watched this on Sky One back in 1992 because it was awesome. Lisa Whelchel is so cute and she was the hottest beach blonde young woman back in the Eighties, though I had a crush on her back in 1992.
All 9 seasons can be found on youtube. also on dailyMotion The quality is what it is. its my favorite show. In the '90's I hosted a FactsOfLife web site with tons of extra little tidbits.
See that's the Fact Of Life I love. A show about a SCHOOL makes more sense w/ more people in it. When they cut it down to 4 main characters, it just didn't feel like a show about a school. To me the first season will always be the best.
The cuts were necessary and made sense. Kim Fields (Tootie) explained in an interview that because the cast was so big, there was no focus on any one character. It was distracting and confusing for viewers, and Fields pointed out that the addition of Jo saved the show because she stood in such stark contrast to the other upper-crust types that comprised the student body. I like the first season, and wonder how it would have been if they had at least kept Nancy or Sue Anne, or Julie Anne Haddock who played Cindy with a sincerity rarely seen on television. That said, the show almost got axed by the network, and it would be just another forgotten failed spinoff in the dustbin of TV history had it not changed.
Probably a little too big for character development. Could have possibly kept Molly (the feminist) but anything more was too much. Cindy could have been kept but Jo filled the “tomboy” role and also added the tough outcast vibe
I just found it odd that the cafeteria, which was unbelievably small, was also the center of so much activity. In one episode, tryouts for the school musical were also held there. Didn't they have an auditorium?

This show really came into full swing when Nancy McKeon joined the cast. Jo was my favorite character.
Yuck.
Blair's character was still being tinkered with during season one. She was initially a "mean girl," and somewhat of a bully.
I hated her she was too full of herself
@daniellej7914 Well season 2 episodes 1-2 was somewhat of remake of this episode. Jo like Cindy really gave it to her.

It was a smart decision to whittle down the cast and revamp the theme song
School was better than today's school
The was my favorite episode of all of them. It was also nice to see the cast from Different Strokes.
I loved when Tootie was always on her rollerblades
This isn’t the pilot episode, the pilot episode didn’t have Natalie and Kimberly asked Miss Garrett to help sew costumes it was an episode of Diff’rent Strokes.
Cindy was also not in that episode.

They crossed in a few Different Strokes episode.
Tootie was always on Different Strokes
@@raymondsolisjr.1262 yes, she took Gary Coleman's parts when he was in the hospital or not feeling well.
Todd Bridges knocked over the punch 😏
The season with 2 of my favorite Mouskateers!
I watched this on Sky One back in 1992 because it was awesome.
Lisa Whelchel is so cute and she was the hottest beach blonde young woman back in the Eighties, though I had a crush on her back in 1992.
Arnold is the Black Hasbulla 😏
Love that split screen intro.
Me too
I loved this show. TFS
16:18 Damn was Blair a little hottie in that dress. I believe they toned down the clothing on subsequent episodes.
Watched this back then
Sweet!! I've been looking to stream this show online and couldn't find it anywhere.

It’s on Tubi
The channel The Norman Lear Effect has a handful of episodes and the Tubi app!
@@openingnext318 Thanks!
Tubi app is free and I believe they have all the seasons available to watch.
This sounds like the alphabet crew!
Happy 45th Birthday Facts Of Life

Wow Charlotte Rae sang Horrible 🤮
this was originally a country song and she was told to sing it slow, the more modern version sounds completely unlike the original song
Uaaah!!!!!
I don’t know what Arnold’s issue is. At that age I would have been soaking up all of that attention from the ladies! 😆😆
Jesus saves
To this day, I know the periodic table of elements symbol for gold is Au from this show.
No lie this headmaster was my fav
MINE TOO!! Mr Parker was ok, but I Mr Bradley was my FAVORITE
(I like Miss Mahony too. Too bad they took her off)

That was my favorite season
MINE TOO!!
(my favorite EPISODE wasn't in season 1, but season 1 was my favorite season)

There is absolutely no way she was only 32. Fifty-two, sure.
"... at 32 a woman is in her prime.." what's after that?? 🤔

@@RazorFriendly there are plenty of 0.5 hour comedies with large casts.
Wow, Lisa gained a lot of weight between Season 1 and 3.
Season one had too big a cast.
Nothing wrong with large ensembles. 30 rock and parks and recreation and superstore.
But yeah fir the first season was too big too soon.
@@frankieseward8667the first season was my favorite
Many shows had large casts.
@@Diostillrocks But this show worked better with 5 or 6 people in it.
@@Asukenick it went from feeling like a school to watching a cliche.
Only watching because of Gary Coleman
Both my childhood crushes ❤
Thats Doug's mom from king of queens! Lol
Oh good lord. Not Mrs. Garrett trying to sing! 🤦🏻♂️
She was a Broadway Musical Stalwart, the producer's thought it was funny if she sang off key, she had in reality a magnificent singing voice.
Mrs Garret's a GOOD singer!! One of my FAVORITE things about this season is her singing the theme song. I LOVED that
