@@der-andymanNo, you would not. I would know this from my vast amount of time in switch CFW communities. When you have autorcm on, it would not show the battery symbol, but rather boot straight into RCM and then take forever to charge because charge in RCM mode is extremely slow.
That gen 1 switch is software modded. If you get into rcm you can confirm. I'm not sure if it can be revived without the backup of the original state and keys. If you can revive it the gen 1 actually sells for a bit more because it can be software modded.
@@linuxares thanks for the info. I've never tried to restore a software modded switch so wasn't sure of the process. I bought a cheap gen 1 and modded it with a paper clip as an experiment and never did anything with it so didn't remember why backing up was such a heavily encouraged part of the process.
I software modded my Gen 1 and I it was stressed that I had to back up the nand. Therefore you can pretty well guarantee that without a nand backup, recovery is out of the question. So, that's a fully bricked Switch and I suspect Joey knows that too but edited out where he researched this issue.
Double check the second switches version. If its the early first gen model it may be in RCM mode, connect to the computer and run tegrarcm to see if it is recognized. If it is it is stuck waiting on a payload.
From Reddit contributor: "Unfortunately, even though the emmc board can be removed and physically put in another switch it will never boot from it, as the data on it is encrypted with keys unique to the cpu. In order to save any data from it you will need to get the original device working. If the CPU is fried, there is nothing you can do." i read that when i soft-modded my Gen 1 Switch but I wanted to reference the issue here. Then again, further down the thread - from another poster : "The answer to this is yes, you can. Contrary to popular belief. There is a caveat though. You need a v1 unpatched switch to do it. All you need to do is pop out the faulty switch emmc module and place it into the unpatched switch. Then you need to boot the unpatched switch into recovery mode, often called RCM mode. You can do that with an RCM jig, tinfoil or carefully bent paper clip on the right joycon rail of the unpatched switch. You'll also need a usb3c cable and a PC. When the switch is in recovery mode, connect it to the PC and inject the Hekate payload. The unpatched switch will then boot into Hekate and give you a bunch of options. Hekate is an open source bootloader and switch software utility. It's mainly used by people who want to haxxor their switches. It's also actually super useful for fixing broken systems with a bit of know-how and backing up data though! One of the Hekate options allows you to back up the user partition, which lucky for you holds the consoles save data and is also not encrypted. You'd then copy those files to the new switch by going through the same process but instead of backing it up, manually copying the save files from the backup to the new switches emmc module. It's pretty long winded but can be done in less than an hour." So, possible but some hoops to jump through.
Joey when this series ends I think you should do a profit or loss series with my mate vince and the coder set a spend limit per item and once 10 items have been bought see who makes the most profit then you all donate your profits to a charity of the series winners choosing just an idea for you and a great way to give back to a good cause
Hi Joey I'd just like to say a big thank you for getting me into soldering and for adding the extra link for your Andonstar microscope I couldn't afford it when i first started watching you but when i had a look the other day on the new link £126 my hands had bought it before i even knew what was happening (Tip: Don't shop online when your drinking ;-)) please keep doing what your doing all the very best and cheers.

You should grab a Pokit. It's a wee phone software based multimeter and oscilloscope. Not sure how you'd connect to OBS but might be a good option when you need some basic oscilloscope stuff?
Are these Switches serialized/coded? Is there a point that you can't combine two into one and still get a working unit? Seems those last two had different problems the other could fix...
I have got my 1st faltt switch from ebay boots fine but no usbc port just a pair of wires connected to the battary, taken apart today every pad for the usbc port is missing all of them so for my fist switch repair I have 24 pads to fix 😭 can I channel my inner Joey? On the videos the parts look big compared to in real life I can bearly see the caps to check for shorts let's hope it's just a port and bodge wires needed
Joey usually has links to them in his video description, but I don't see them. Just search in Google, "USB Power meter Tester Amazon" and your country and you should see some options
If you can't use Google or search the description, then don't bother messing with electronics at all. This requires attention to detail and you are clearly lacking that as well as basic troubleshooting and common sense.

The diode: DUH
Joey... if its a V1 Switch.... its probably entering RCM mode. It's hacked most likely. Why you aren't seeing ANYTHING.
Exactly
No, becouse when a switch is a rcm mode don't show the battery icon.
@@MrFabioplata Incorrect, it shows battery when is charging then reboots in to AutoRCM. Depends on the battery level :)
@@linuxares 👍👍
Hey Joey, Did you check the second Switch is in RCM mode? I suspect it is in autoRCM.
Would you see the battery symbol in that case?
100% this is the issue. Basically it will not boot without the rails jumped.
@@der-andyman Yes, until it boots in to AutoRCM and awaits a payload.

Its a v1 dude just inject a payload and dump keys and rebuild the emmc image. The emmc isnt bad its just corrupt

try to boot that faulty emmc switch into rcm mode if it's one of the exploitable ones. I am pretty sure you can unbrick it through the rcm as well
I can’t do anything in this video. But I am so invested in this series lol
My face is well and truly welcomed 🎉🎉🎉
Unlucky pal hopefully you hit your target next one 😊

Joey, you should consider showing us a line graph of the profit/loss over time.
the emmc chip is quite easy to replace

Would injecting voltage help find the fault?
After the reveal on twitch ( The Tee-Shirt ) really thought this was it.. 🤣lol but no... Soon Joey my friend soon ❤
Great series in fixing stuff but how about trying other things like a steam deck
Is it impossible to replace the APU with a different one on Switches?

What are the gloves you are wearing? Not listed I’m the description .
Again this lot was sold by myself. These were bought as customer returns and resold without opening ourself.
Thanks again Joey
You have 2 switches. Maybe you can switch the cpu. ( if they are the same version switches or is the cpu married to the board?)

The first one was so nice and then that.. well.. you win some, you lose some.. thank you for another great profit or loss episode.
How come you can't just replace the CPU on the last Switch?
You can't replace the emmc?
Great video again . Why don't you change the apu with a good one ? (You can do it in live stream )
Can you not swap the CPU from a donor board?
So close yet so far.
That was definitely a tease seeing your new shirt on the last live stream 😅

That is wild you dont have oscilloscope
The emmc switch didn’t have the default thermal paste so someone had been inside
Oh yes, now I can eat joey Tech while I watch my lunch. Thanks daddy
retrosix do a cheap USB Hantek Oscilloscope which will do the job. Luke's done ag reat job with his Wiki.
AutoRCM Joey 😭 if not, try refowing the emmc.
How you dont have a os-scope? Those aren't that expensive and there is so much you can do with one.

Hi joey any chance of a members video thanks
If the CPU cap is reading short you should at least remove it just to make sure it isn't in-fact the cap that is actually short and not the CPU.
where do i get an am meter
