Their first ever meeting ! Would not have thought by the end of 2004 that Serena would have been 1-2 in head to heads against Maria but.... we know how the head to head changed thereafter ! Tbf Maria should have won their meeting at the 2005 Aus Open but after that she rarely troubled Serena, took her to 3 sets a couple of other times only
I don't remember Sharapova being so fast as she is on this HLs and to think commentators were constantly bragging about her improved movement back in 2012.
Sharapova was fairly quick until the end of 2005 when she started growing. She was 6’0 here and when she won Wimbledon but grew another 2 inches which changed her center of gravity and slowed her down. And she worked hard for years to get the speed back. Her anticipation was always good though and helped her. She did move horrible on clay until 2011 and in 2013 on she was moving faster on hard court so her movement did actually improve from how it was 06-10.
@@talismon63 learn your facts. Sharapova was not drugged up in that match and that drug is not responsible for her career. She had won Wimbledon, the US Open, the WTA finals and been world number 1 before even using that drug. She started taking it at the end of 2006 and they still have yet to prove it helps endurance. The reason it got banned was because so many athletes were using it and they found it alarming. They did no research on how it works though which is why 200+ athletes failed drug test for it after it was banned because they didn’t research how long it stays in someone’s system. Two other tennis players failed drug test for it also along with Sharapova but I bet you didn’t even know that.

That’s how you’re going to try and spin this lol? Either way that substance is a taint on her record and image to everyone except her many fans. Maria lost this match. She was never an all around better player than Serena before or after that substance. It will not be forgotten.
Seeing her lose the Wimbledon final that year really hurt I would have been on cloud 9 if she beat Sharapova in the Wimbledon final wearing that sexy dress and those gorgeous dangly earrings I was beyond excited watching Serena play in 2004
Dopers can’t beat Serena she suppose bow and bend her knee to Serena asked for mercy the meldonium it doesn’t work for Serena what she does when she play Serena making noise in court grunting screaming disgusting

The Panel wishes to emphasize that based on the evidence, the Player did not endeavour to mask or hide her use of Mildronate and was in fact open about it to many in her entourage and based on a doctor's recommendation, that she took the substance with the good faith belief that it was appropriate and compliant with the relevant rules and her anti-doping obligations, as it was over a long period of her career, and that she was not clearly informed by the relevant anti-doping authorities of the change in the rules. After its de novo review here, the Panel has determined it does not agree with many of the conclusions of the Tribunal, except as otherwise specifically indicated herein. 101. Finally, the Panel wishes to point out that the case it heard, and the award it renders, was not about an athlete who cheated. It was only about the degree of fault that can be imputed to a player for her failure to make sure that the substance contained in a product she had been legally taking over a long period, and for most of the time on the basis of a doctor's prescription, remained in compliance with the TADP and WADC. No question of intent to violate the TADP or WADC was before this Panel: under no circumstances, therefore, can the Player be considered to be an "intentional doper".“ Court of Arbitration for Sport (“CAS”), January 26, 2016
Nice try troll. The funny thing is, Maria will enter the Tennis Hall of Fame and forever be remembered for her achievements. You, on the other hand, will amount to nothing.

She has the power to hit against serena even before Mildronate, so all that useless drug theories should be thrown away.

All Serena needed to do was to play like this in the Wimbledon final

She did, actually. Maria stepped up her game.

She wasn’t even on Meldonium in this match ? she started taking it in 2006
