Great unboxing mike!!!! Definitely will keep this tablet in mind for my next tablet.
This is the best looking android tab out at the moment, in my opinion of course! I just purchased my first ios device, the ipad air, and I love it but the GPE G Pad is what I'm looking for in a tablet. I've gotta have it!

Does the quick remote function work on this edition? Please answer, I'm in the market for either, but the remote is a dealbreaker! You said "so you'll have to install that separately", does that mean there is an app for it in the play store?
If i bought a Google play edition LG Gpad (which is same price as regular Gpad), can i install LG Optimus UI legitimitely on it afterwards if i get tired of stock android??

There are so many tablets, I wish they'd get all the good from each one and combine them into one, super awesome, perfect tablet.
So...anybody... quick question... so LG gpad and run cyanogenmod 11 on it... or get the GPE? getting the gpad from bestbuy will save me $50... WHAT DO I DO?

Love my nexus 7, but I agree it would be nicer if it were in an 8" format. It isn't much bigger than the latest phones. And now that I have an n7, my transformer prime feels like a giant!

Great video! Just broke my Nexus 7 (two weeks old), and I can't decide if I should replace it with the G Pad or another Nexus. Which would you recommend?
That's tough to say definitively, the G Pad still has some weaknesses and it costs more, but for me I'd rather have the G Pad.
I like the fact that the LG has an SD card slot, too bad Google will not be manufacturing a tablet with SD card support anytime soon.

I don't know why some people nicknamed this the nexus 8, can someone tell me why they do?
I have had my G Pad for about a week and haven't had a single crash. I wonder if you got a bad unit.
I've had lot of problems with it crashing, I keep hoping for a software fix.
I really like the Google Edition of the G Pad, the screen size is perfect. At the same time, I really love the quality of the screen for the Nexus 7. Which would you choose?

Great review, as usual. One HUGE issue with this tablet is the inability to write to the SD card without root. If that was fixed it would be great.
or you can just root it..I mean thats what everyone does to android nowadays
the n7 and the gpad have the same soc as the s4 pro cpu in the nexus 7 has the exact same krait 300 cores as the snapdragon 600. Only difference between the two is clockspeed.

Mike I was wondering: what do you do with all that tech? I mean even at iPhone video's I see you showcasing your older iPhone 3GS / 4 / 4s / 5 comparing to the 5s, do you have a tech cave of some sort somewhere in your house with almost everything you ever reviewed still there?:D Since you don't seem to sell / return it like most do :P
I believe, this people gets the gadgets from the manufacturer themselves. Like, per say, LG comes to mike and says "mike, can you make a video review of this device?" and in return, he gets to keep it.

Should I buy the regular edition for £190 or just buy a 16GB 2013 Nexus 7 for £155? Screen size doesn't faze me and I will be using it for mostly, gaming, social media and netflix consumption.

It does, but you'll need to supply the app.

What about the IR sensor/blaster?
It's still there, but Android stock doesn't include an app to use it. I happen to own the original G Pad so that means I own the OEM app from LG so I can reinstal it on the stock G Pad. This was also the case on the GPE edition of the GS4.

Between the normal and the Google Play edition, I'd buy the normal one. It simply is better for me. It has all those nice features, and it's really just as fluid and snappy as the Google Play one. Yeah, stock Android looks better, but that's about it. But that's just my opinion
