I have so many problems with "cozy games" in the first place and most of it stems from how publishers/devs are using it as a marketing scheme. Now, whenever I see a game with cozy in its marketing, title, or description I am 100% cautious and/or completely uninterested. It makes me think of how as soon as a BR, extraction shooter, asymmetrical got their 1 or 2 big games every publisher and their mother wanted one. So now the life sim/casual genre is getting filed with "cozy slop".
Inspiration is one thing, but this? It's something else. I'm no expert, but to me, it really does feels like they just ripped the 3D models from New Horizons, and edited them. Heck, it wouldnt be the first time. Official 3D Pokemon models show up in scam ads all the time on mobile.
hey, great stuff! So this is my opinion on inspiration vs. ripoff. If you see screenshots of a game and have trouble telling the difference between it and the game it's inspired from, I think that's a problem right there. This game totally crosses that line for me.
It's the character model that ticks it off for me. The ball-shaped hands, the proportions of the body, the design of the head, and the key poses for the animations of the tools
Sue them because they have farming and fishing and romance. That will not work. Character design can be an issue here. There is so much Animal Crossing merchandise out there, there must be some sort of copyright problems here.
Do you think a lot of devs try to make "cozy games" just because they think it's easy lol i tried to download one on my phone the other day recommended under stardew and there was literally nothing to do other than look at animations, wait and watch ads to unlock things.... it's sad how many developers cheapen out on genres that generally appeal to women, liking something relaxing doesn't mean it has to be boring, lazily made and a waste of time and money. It definitely seems like the new genre to try to scam with 😭
My honest opinion of the Palworld lawsuit is less so because "mechanics" were copied; as other games have done similar things. I think they were grasping at the best thing they could do to try and end Palworld because it was being marketed at word-of-mouth as "Pokemon with guns" and that's a really big deal when it comes to advertising. They can't technically stop everyone from calling it that, so they can just hope to get rid of it. This is of course a theory, and maybe it was only because it got so popular but why else just go after them an not a bunch of the other games that have capturing monsters/riding animals.
Why are these Animals Crossing "inspired" games always so bad at character designs? Lie Campfire, the one with the AI villagers. While fun and enjoyable, it also has some pretty awful design for the player character.
The only "Animal Crossing like" game that I have played was Hokko Life on PS4 and personally I really enjoyed a lot that game, mostly was because I could play an AC type game on my PS4 and also I loved the UGC (User Generated Content) mode that had the game for create your own furnitures and share it online (and cross-play) with other players. Sadly at this point the game is kind abandoned but at least it got great support while it lasted.
Having Animal Crossing style games on PC is fine, but like you said there is a big line that was crossed here. A unique art style and some innovation to gameplay would have made this game okay, but they just did a full copy and paste in lower quality.
The only thing I can say positive about it from the pics is the animal neighbors have actual houses, compared to the tiny one-bedroom they have in Animal Crossing. That always irritated me to no end.
Fun fact this game is game from unreal engine template to make from unreal engine to develop game and it is made my ai from the template and unreal engine says you can get by buying it so they barley change anything from template
AI Image detectors aren't very reliable, there's many stories of artists putting their own works into these sites and getting 100% AI results haha. But this definitely looks like a generic enough logo to be made, if not with AI, then with free assets really.
The fact they made an SCP game(I dunno how well it'd play cause I have trouble playing a few horror games) made me think it'd be funny if someone made a joke SCP farming sim.(Or just fake screenshots cause those are really interesting to see sometimes) Shy guy probably has a bag over his head & maybe a quest to replace it so you don't see his face. Iris likely wanting help with pictures(or maybe playing as her so you can use pictures as a way to get to certain areas once unlocked), SCP-682 forced to ask you to make some food for SCP-053 since he can't/possibly won't make it.(I mean he's a lizard walking on all fours & he hates people so fair point, also has to keep an eye on 053 in this since she can't be around people) Jokes aside it looks nice especially the inside of villagers' homes(really like the villager at 11:08) but I don't fully think I can trust this game given what you pointed out. It feels weird that this is free & the fact it just seems like someone trying to put New Horizons on Steam. Going off what video/screenshots are available I kind of feel like until we get more previews the ranching/raising animals part they claim will happen was probably a lie to get farming life sim players interested.(Going off some plants & the series this is based on I could possibly accept gardening/farming being available) Also I'm probably imagining things but the logo unintentionally reminds me of Farm Together's logo at least the top half & the leaves on the side, I'm probably just seeing things due to similarities. If I wanted Animal Crossing with dating I'd play Magician's Quest while waiting for the fan translation of the first 3DS game for the series to come out.(That or put a furry mod on one of the farming sims I play)
Pal World should not have been sued, and Nintendo only went after them because they were jealous and trying to stifle competition. The game is distinct enough to be its own thing that the only thing they could go at them for was gameplay mechanics that they were somehow allowed to own trademarks to. It's a cut and dry case of a company being hostile to competition. This game on the other hand, Nintendo definitely should be going after, because they didn't make an Animal Crossing inspired game with similar mechanics, they straight up made Animal Crossing, and those assets look suspiciously like they may have been ripped from New Horizons. If you didn't tell me this wasn't New Horizons, I would have thought it was footage from New Horizons.
Yeah no the art style of the villager is directly ripped from Animal Crossing, even the shapes of the animal models look stolen too. I am also SO SICK OF FARMING SIMS. Also "Cozy town" if THAT isn't AI slop Idk what is. This game looks straight generated with maybe some minimal work done in blender or something. AT LEAST Pal world was more entertaining. Can't wait for the game to be removed from steam and all traces of it deleted after this video gets viral. Nothing about this game has the heart or soul that Animal Crossing has. It's a shameful copy paste. I would be EMBARRASSED to have my credentials attached to something like this.
If Nintendo can sue Palworld for riding creatures and throwing out summons like a projectile, Sega should be able to sue Nintendo since they now own Atlus. Atlus was doing the monster catching mechanic in the Megami Tensei series decades before Game Freak stole the idea.
I think it's a heavily animal crossing inspired game but not sure if it's a scam due to it's free status so maybe it's some devs taking a crack at the cozy game genre? Who knows. I'll be trying it out though :)
I feel like there is a huge misunderstanding of japan and its culture / laws. I highly recommend watching " It's a Palworld After All! A Lawyer Explains Nintendo v. Palworld" by Moon Channel. He explains why the lawsuit happened to begin with and does a good job explaining how Japan is different when it comes to lawsuits. Japan is very lax about fan games/media and Nintendo was content to leave palworld alone until Sony got involved for very important business reasons. If this fake animal crossing game comes out, I doubt Nintendo would care to sue. And probably only would if there was a genuine threat, like with Palworld/Sony. Copyright law is an entirely different beast in Japan vs here in the US, hence the patent rout for palworld. I say this not to disagree, as I also hate lawsuits. I just hope more people can be more informed as to what goes into it.
Mann Long Winter just fell out of relevance as "evil animalcrossing" really quick. (From the little I played of it it's fun but definitely a with friends game). You know what if this game ends up with workshop & mod support I can see it going okay and having something over Nintendos way of handling custom content.
The thing is, if it's free, there's no in-game transactions either. Nintendo probably won't sue. But if they make money from it.. well.. they are in for a hell of a ride with Nintendo. 😅
I call a 100% AI Animal Crossing rip off game. The biggest problem in game development world at the moment is that there's no laws to protect IPs from being used to train AI, because its relatively new. I am really concerned by this, because if Nintendo can sue Pocketpair for example over a patented mechanic, what is going to remain for future games, for people who actually do develop their own stuff from scratch...
I think if a number of factors are present, then you can determine if a game is a straight ripoff or clone of another game. Some factors might include character design, sound design, music, gameplay, story, etc. Also, maybe a certain amount of time as well from when the source material was released and when the new game is released. Like you said, Stardew Valley was inspired by Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons, but I think it was inspired from the original Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons which came out decades before Stardew Valley.
I think there's difference between 'suing for similar gameplay features' and 'suing because you made the exact same game with a new coat of paint and called it yours.' There's not enough unique new features to properly differentiate it as it's own game, and not an animal crossing ripoff. Stardew Valley made itself different from Harvest Moon, while still paying homage, Starbound made itself different from Terraria while still playing homage. Palworld made itself different while still playing homage. Cozy Town doesn't do enough to differentiate itself. That said, the game looks nice from afar, but I like animal crossing, which I already own, so I rather just play that.
Nintendo also went after the Miraibo mobile game which I was more surprised at because it’s not a poke-clone. It was probably the balls again but then why haven’t they sued Temtem?
see? this right here is one of my biggest problems with not just cozy games but modern gaming in general. i don't want to see nintendo sue this company but should they in this case? i honestly think they should. too many developers are using the excuse of ''i was inspired by this game so i made this'' to justify a blatant rip off like this one. like you said bubbz idk where we draw the line but we need to start..drawing it😅😅because this is getting out of hand and we as players/content creators / game makers etc need to send a clear message that this nonsense will not be tolerated.
I would atleast try cozy town if it is a real game. i love these kind of games. i am currently playtesting a game like this. i can't go into details about it. but I think people will like it. also it will be a direct competitor to animal crossing.
I feel like if they want to make it unique from animal Crossing they’re going to need to change a few things like making more features. Fatter animal crossing does not have like if they want to stray from its name make it so you can hunt creatures like wolves but I can understand that may not be a very good appeal and also they need to change the art style of the game to look not like animal Crossing like sure they can still not choose to you know have a characters have fingers but make it not look like animal Crossing like maybe like a last chibi style
@MissBubbles Thanks, I knew it looked familiar. I backed the Kickstarter for the Switch version which sadly they never delivered on. I will reluctantly pay again for the PS version at some point.
I hope you try some more coral island - with its 1.1b update, I’m still grinding for town rank A, but they have made it easier. The ocean farm also opens up after clearing the ocean now
You know what ? Hot take but I want it to be a real game and not a scam just so Nintendo realises that people want Animal Crossing (and other games) elsewhere than just on their outdated consoles and if Nintendo won't give those to players then people are going to start making their own version of them.
Yes sister I feel you 😢 I don't mind been inspired by others but copying is a different thing 😔 I mean if i were to play a game like this i prefer playing the original instead cuz it's much better, i mean the only thing I'll be thinking playing a copy is: Why am i doing this to myself 😅? Love you and keep up the good work 😊
I don't really know if Nintendo could successfully sue these people. Yeah its a 100% ripoff, but really its just stealing the art style, and you can't trademark an art style. Many things copy other peoples art style. They might be able to do more patent BS like palword, so lets hope the palworld lawsuits fail. Its better for all of gaming if they do. They don't deserve to get sued. If their game is fun it'll do well and if its as unoriginal as it looks gameplaywise, they will be their own downfall. Nintendo doesn't need to step in. I think the difference between inspiration and a copy ultimately just ends up being the quality of the end product. There are tons of games where someone pulls a stardew and says "they haven't made my favorite game in decades/this game could be better, I'm going to make it better myself." and if it turns out better or adds something new, people will say its inspired. If it turns out the devs skills weren't up to par and it it feels worse than the original, people will call it a "cheap imitation". Look at Palworld. I hear critics of the game say it doesn't add anything new to open world survival crafting games and it just copied pokemon, and yet the people who love it will say its what we've wanted from pokemon all along and it adds so much new to the genre.
genshin impact also copied enemy movement from zelda enemies. best example are the wizzrobes. it is 1 to 1 copy. it also pisses me off. if like 80% gameplay is a copy and you just give a slight spin so it is "different enough". it pisses me off too. (not counting story) with harvest moon there licensing issues. that is why they did games under a different name but they never really improved i think. so stardew valley is a game that is in the same troupe. like dark souls has spawned the "souls-like" games or diablo has spawned "diablo-like" games. but when i saw stardew valley i never thought of "yeah thats a harvest moon copy". but for 3 mihoyo games i thought "that looks way too familiar." and palworld did just copy a lot more than it brought along at first. it is same with genshin. the fundamentals look like a copy and then they made it overtime their own game. for genshin atleast the story was completely different
Thank goodness I watched this sine, yeah... definitely shaky. Hopefully we see other Farming and Cozy games that're better. HAUNTED CHOCLATIER WOULD BE NICE! ((But, I understand the Auhtor's reasons for waiting to make sure it's done right))
It really just comes down to cozy games surging in popularity in recent years. When something becomes popular, lazy people see an opportunity to try and make a quick buck off of it. It's the way of the world unfortunately 🤷♀️
If your game as a whole looks SO much like another game that a person might mix them up...That's an issue IMO. I can see a person who has never played Animal Crossing before thinking this was from an official game. At least with Palworld, the World itself doesn't look like something from the Pokémon games. I would never mix up screen shots of those games. Being honest, I dont want to defend Nintendo of all people. Like ew😂 But I value creativity in Video games. We don't need anymore cash grab ripoff games
4:00 I'm sorry, but this whole description just scream Stardew Valley to me 🤔 This sounds like it could have been its steam blurb back in 2016 or something.
I kinda want to see your full review just to see how much this game would annoy you... 😂 But yeah I don't like the idea of copywriting game mechanics. That's how games get better. Through inspiration and evolution
If you want a game inspired by Animal Crossing yet is more original than this garbage then I'd recommend Campfire. You can sign up for a free DEMO of it and apparently they have one for mobile now. I've played Campfire a little bit and have been enjoying my time on there and it's far more interesting than this offensive knockoff. The only thing AI about it is being able to talk to villagers via mic or type chat and it's extremely good.
I wouldnt mind a GOOD rip off. I liked pal world because it combined so many games. Sure I thought alot of the designs were cheesy but the gameplay was fun. And it looked fine. This looks exactly like animalcrossing, but some kind of beta build . The animals look very uncanny and the style looks like an asset store 🫠😵💫
All it's gonna take is one "Cease and Desist" to scare this company off. I doubt Nintendo even needs solid legal ground to make a worthwhile threat - the thought alone would send most people running. That said, I'm generally against lawsuits that limit creativity...but this is just straight-up asset-tweaking. There's a difference between drawing inspiration from a developer's style and taking the style from an established, developed, and published product which you then put a little to the left and claim as your own. That's like copying your friend's homework without trying to get caught: you get the benefit without the work.
@@MissBubbles tbf, having balls (literally, in this case) is what got palworld into a lawsuit of their own 😅 but if they get away with it? then heck, i'm in the wrong industry! I've been working waaaaaaay too hard.

hey, great stuff! So this is my opinion on inspiration vs. ripoff. If you see screenshots of a game and have trouble telling the difference between it and the game it's inspired from, I think that's a problem right there. This game totally crosses that line for me.
Do people just ask AI to create a knock off version of the game thinking no one will notice???
Pretty sure you can sue on design alone. Cozy town is obviously ripping designs and gameplay mechanics straight from Nintendo.
“cozy town” more like mammal and possibly aquatic village 😭
Do you think a lot of devs try to make "cozy games" just because they think it's easy lol i tried to download one on my phone the other day recommended under stardew and there was literally nothing to do other than look at animations, wait and watch ads to unlock things.... it's sad how many developers cheapen out on genres that generally appeal to women, liking something relaxing doesn't mean it has to be boring, lazily made and a waste of time and money. It definitely seems like the new genre to try to scam with 😭
Getting so tired of the cozy genre nowadays - been kicking back in a different genre for awhile and it feels good.
100% and if Cozy Town was to ever be this popular, something similar would probably happen
But they also seem to have gone after Miraibo
The grass even looks the same.
The villager designs are cute, but yeah this is just a lawsuit waiting to happen
Iris likely wanting help with pictures(or maybe playing as her so you can use pictures as a way to get to certain areas once unlocked), SCP-682 forced to ask you to make some food for SCP-053 since he can't/possibly won't make it.(I mean he's a lizard walking on all fours & he hates people so fair point, also has to keep an eye on 053 in this since she can't be around people)
Jokes aside it looks nice especially the inside of villagers' homes(really like the villager at 11:08) but I don't fully think I can trust this game given what you pointed out.
Animal Crossing from Wish.

The tables turn with these companies
Find love? With the animals??
You know I didn't even clock that 😭😂 I thought there would be human villagers?😭
@@MissBubbles or let the player for once be an anthro so it would at least make sense lol thats one thing I am missing in Animal Crossing
meh, i can see how it would weird people out but they're as intelligent as humans so idk (even better would be to make the player an animal as well)
I think it's a heavily animal crossing inspired game but not sure if it's a scam due to it's free status so maybe it's some devs taking a crack at the cozy game genre? Who knows. I'll be trying it out though :)
I feel like there is a huge misunderstanding of japan and its culture / laws. I highly recommend watching " It's a Palworld After All! A Lawyer Explains Nintendo v. Palworld" by
Moon Channel.
2025 will be insane with cases like this
I think if a number of factors are present, then you can determine if a game is a straight ripoff or clone of another game.
I will deffo try it to review it but we can't deny it's shady
@MissBubbles it is pretty shady. There is barely any info other than It is like harvest moon and Animal crossing.
Hokui had similar animal designs to AC but changed designs to look off prob to avoid lawsuit. But do wished the dev didnt give up on it. 😢
Do you mean Hokko Life?
this just palworlds all over again
What's the game at 8:41? Thanks.
Coral Island!
The ocean farm also opens up after clearing the ocean now
I play it everyday ☺️
Idk but this pisses me off 😂
@@BellaBeeBaby you and me both 😭
Think iv seen something like this on insta. People where tagging Nintendo
You know what ? Hot take but I want it to be a real game and not a scam just so Nintendo realises that people want Animal Crossing (and other games) elsewhere than just on their outdated consoles and if Nintendo won't give those to players then people are going to start making their own version of them.
@@bastiwen I mean get inspired by it but this is a straight up rip off 😭
@MissBubbles sneaky sneaky theft 🐍
The consoles aren’t that bad
@@ChicagoMel23 I didn't say bad, I said outdated
And I hope they all get sued lol
If free, there may be different copyright laws, and if free, how is it a scam? What does a person get scammed out of by playing?
A misleading description of a product is a scam.
It’s sooo bad
I looked it up on Steam in my country which is Singapore but I can’t find the game lmfao
I also saw another game that’s ripping off assets of animal crossing!
Yes sister I feel you 😢 I don't mind been inspired by others but copying is a different thing 😔
I mean if i were to play a game like this i prefer playing the original instead cuz it's much better, i mean the only thing I'll be thinking playing a copy is: Why am i doing this to myself 😅?
If the devs weren't lazy with the designs and the consistency with the world I'd agree but a lot of things don't sit right with me.
For all I care they can make blatant rip off games. If these are not bad I'll play them too.
genshin impact also copied enemy movement from zelda enemies. best example are the wizzrobes. it is 1 to 1 copy. it also pisses me off.
if like 80% gameplay is a copy and you just give a slight spin so it is "different enough". it pisses me off too. (not counting story)
with harvest moon there licensing issues. that is why they did games under a different name but they never really improved i think. so stardew valley is a game that is in the same troupe.
like dark souls has spawned the "souls-like" games or diablo has spawned "diablo-like" games.
but when i saw stardew valley i never thought of "yeah thats a harvest moon copy".
but for 3 mihoyo games i thought "that looks way too familiar."
and palworld did just copy a lot more than it brought along at first. it is same with genshin. the fundamentals look like a copy and then they made it overtime their own game. for genshin atleast the story was completely different
Thank goodness I watched this sine, yeah... definitely shaky. Hopefully we see other Farming and Cozy games that're better. HAUNTED CHOCLATIER WOULD BE NICE! ((But, I understand the Auhtor's reasons for waiting to make sure it's done right))
What’s with all these scammy games popping up lately 😭
It really just comes down to cozy games surging in popularity in recent years. When something becomes popular, lazy people see an opportunity to try and make a quick buck off of it. It's the way of the world unfortunately 🤷♀️
i just find it hilarious because what is this game?! 😂
Do the tools break though…
Maybe they can try adding combat or something LOL
Wow.....🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, this doesn't give me good vibes one bit
Hi Miss Bubbles! First! Oblivion is one of my fav words by the way lol Happy holidays!
lmaoo happiest holidayysss
I don't think this game is real, a new developer with two totally different games in development? Nah, its not happening
I just have no idea how it made it to Steam
It’s not a rip off unless Nintendo says it is and if they get the okay to put it on the switch then nothing to worry about .
nintendo rn ua-cam.com/users/shortsO48_ngLOPDg
I kinda want to see your full review just to see how much this game would annoy you... 😂
But yeah I don't like the idea of copywriting game mechanics. That's how games get better. Through inspiration and evolution
I def would review this! It will be hilarious
If it's free I think it's fine, it's opening up the gamestyle of AC for people who may not be able to afford the game or who may not own a switch.
I honestly want to play, I used to love Animal Crossing and I still do, but New Horizons has been stressful compared to New Leaf and Pocket Camp
I love adding these games to my Wishlist, ranking them at the bottom and never buying them... there we go, right after Concord. LOLS, LOLS, LOLS
Sheeeeesh
K, I don't like the faces of the human characters, it looks like it'll hop off they're heads- 😓
They look so angry 😂
The Game looks TERRIBLE.. but your Hair looks GREAT! Not on topic .. but defo suits you! :D
@@homesteadhero they have balls for trying this ngl
@@MissBubbles tbf, having balls (literally, in this case) is what got palworld into a lawsuit of their own 😅 but if they get away with it? then heck, i'm in the wrong industry! I've been working waaaaaaay too hard.
Great video. I've seen Cozy Town pop up on my feed before for steam 🫣
Do you think it's a scam?
