On My Surly Ogre I've gone down to a Vittoria 2 .35 & for comfort I use a cane creek seat post & a redshift stem ,it's very comfortable & covers the ground a lot quicker compared to when I'm had 3" .
i ride all ground on Schwalbe Marathon mtb 54-622, been rolling these for 3 years now... got a bit sick of bigger rubber while touring cross country . Narrow tyres give me better overall speed on mixed terrain all round, not dragging fatter tyres helps longer road sections
I "think" what happens when you a add narrower/smaller diameter front tire is it reduces the trail number which makes the front end feel livelier. I had to draw a diagram to convince myself of that. The reduced contact patch also contributes obviously. I put 35mm tires on my normal mountain bike and the front end now requires constant attention :-) It lowers your gearing too but I didn't really notice that.
That's given me some thought. I have the 2021 Beyond + Adv with the 3 inch tyres and after my ride yesterday evening, I must have come home with a couple of kilos of extra mud. The mud built up so much at one point that it kicked my chain off. Other than that, I love the bike.
I was thinking about keeping the 3 inch tyre/i45 combo on the front and swapping to a 2.6 inch/i35 on the back. I'm pretty sure most rolling resistance comes from the rear where most of the weight is. Good idea? Thanks for the tip about unavailability of 29er plus tyres, which I knew about but had forgotten. If you write one off mid-tour the local bike shop is unlikely to stock one. Another reason for i35 rims.
Where did you find your Bombtrack? I’ve been looking for a while but bikes (or even frames) don’t seem to be available anywhere. I just missed out on getting a cut priced Beyond+ (my22) but someone bought it yesterday 😢 I’m half tempted to go for the Titus Silk Road which looks great, though I’m just not a huge fan of the curved top and down tube…
Just got lucky someone selling it. Had the same issue trying to get a date for one but no one could tell me. Im 6ft6 so when an XL came up there was no haggling
@@KeepSmilingAdventures that is lucky! Well luckily for me the UK distributor got more stock in only a day later so I am now the lucky owner of a Beyond + (well I will be when it arrives in a couple of weeks). Btw on another topic, what good winter day rides would you recommend in the south west (for the big tyre bike)? I’ve done the new forest in a day in my gravel bike, and a local loop near me in Bristol. Happy to drive a couple of hours for something decent!
@@NickOdantzis ahh nice hopefully it will be here before Christmas. Depends how big a day ride is to you but the dorset dash is doable in a day www.komoot.com/tour/493167125?ref=itd Or for something shorter there was a route i did a while back called the purbeck bimble www.komoot.com/tour/329557135?ref=itd

I'm loving the Redshift stem and seatpost also.

Changing the rims to a 35mm internal will give yourself a bit more clearance even with the 3 inch tyres

Cant see why it wouldn't work people run different size wheels.

Great review/update.
Bontrager is selling 3" tyres
Omg it might now be as fast as the Camino on mixed terrain
