Essendo mancina , mi fu regalata ( anno 1974), una Giannini a 12 corde modello acustico "classico "( E' "cugina" della Craviola). La suono ancora ,suona ancora armoniosamente bene ,nonostante ha 48 anni !!
Giannini was a great musical instruments builder in Brazil, from 60´ at the 80´, and others like Del Vecchio (see the DV dynamic acoustic guitar, for example).
Absolutely. Have a VIOLAO para CONCERTISTA MOD. GS - 240 TRANQUILLO GIANNINI S.A. Build date - 03 de 02 de 1972 The guitar is a 6 string acoustic which I bought new in '74 and still a great acoustic to play. Great neck profile and straight, truss rod adjustable. Body has no sign of warping, stress or cracks after 50 years! Top quality all round.👍 🇦🇺
The grain on that wood is amazing looking ! Thanks for turning the guitar around & showing us every bit of it ! Holy crow !!! That first strum alone did me in ! I need one of those for recording a few of my newer songs. I can't get over the sound of that. I may have touched myself multiple times in a naughty way during the playing of that guitar, but you didn't hear that from me ! Wow - thank you, thank you, thank you...

Craviola is a Brazilian instrument. It's made by Giannini, a really old and traditional company. And the first Craviolas are probably 30 - 40 year old instruments by now.
I build guitars and had an idea for this shape...then later found out it was already being made. The idea I had was that the bass side would have more soundboard. Love that Brazilian rosewood back.
I just bought one, same year, it has " 2 / MAI 1974 " STAMPED INSIDE ON THE NECK HEEL BLOCK. Needs a little help but not bad for 39 years old. Reminds me of the one I owned 39 years ago.
@rattbike82 I have a 12 string version and a 6 string nylon. The sound is rich with a very good action, but not overly loud which sometimes bothers me a little when playing together with other big-bodied accoustics. What I really like is that its possible to hear the harmonics on practically very fret. Ive had them both about 25 years. I'm not a virtuiso but I'm not too bad either, and I guess I just "think" I sound better when I play the giannini.
The original 70s version were all laminates, they are still making 6 and 10 string version that have solid tops, but sadly no 12 string versions that I am aware of. Just picked up a 12 string made in 1977... never heard of a craviola before... but had one in the shop and just a few strums knew this was something different, and I had to have it. So, even though I have no experience with 12 strings at all... I am not the owner of a 1977 AWKS12 These things just have their own sound, can't describe it. I am now contemplating purchasing a brand new 6 string Craviola as well.
@@seanpeck8748 a bell-like sound is how I would describe it. As for the laminate, yes, it really dampens the volume. The build on my 'original' 12 craviola is amazing, but my 6 nylon craviola is cheap and awful. Either I was extremely lucky with my build on the 12, or really unlucky with the 6.
@@johnpedder1635 Well there are about 3 decades plus between the originals and the modern rebirth, haven't played one of the newer 6 strings yet, so I can't speak to it. Its a shame if they are low quality, this sound is so distinctive. I know the new ones aren't crazy expensive, but they aren't super cheap either.
Man, that sounds awesome! I'm a southpaw and I would have loved to at least play a lefthanded model, but apparently it would have killed them to make one (as far as I know they make only righthanded cravs).
You are so right. I'm a luthier and a Craviola lover. That said, original (70's) Cravs are made with lousy plywood that is a real problem for the 12-stringers because they delaminate and are almost impossible to fix without replacing the whole top--which is worth it IMO. Recently Giannini finally started making solid-top Cravs, but they are way expensive and have to be custom ordered from Brazil--$$$ and a long wait.
I got the exact same one man... really beautiful sound...I was given it when I was in France, dates from 1974 as well... probably the same production bench...Giannini disappeared apparenty? did they?
Heyo mate, I've got something a lot similar to that but not quite sure of it's origin. It's a 12 string electric/acoustic almost identical to the one shown here, but it says "Jay Turser by Giannini" Do you know when and where it was made per chance? Many thanks.
My noble, these instruments are called craviola and were made in Brazil some time ago. Brand Giannini. There is currently a new series relaunched. I don't have it at hand but visit the brand's website and you can find out more.
The craviola was invented by a great Brazilian guitarist, our great Paulinho Nogueira! Thanks James!
Somente a partir de 1:18 que o cara começa a tocar no instrumento. Caso alguém queira pular direto para essa parte, fica aí a dica.
It is a brazilian craviola, such a beautiful sound. amazing.
I have a 1970´s 12 and love the action and tone. Nice piece.

Weird... Unnecessary... TMI... Gross
I have the same guitar 12 string from 73 without a pick guard. One of my personal favorites.
I have a nylon string Craviola from the '70's. A lucky find. The 12 string sounds great, James !!
Wow, now that's a great sounding 12 String, cool blues licks you play too!
Great sound from you and the guitar, the cat likes it too.
the sound Just keeps reminding me of scarborough fair form Simon and Garfunkle :) Beautiful instrument!
this is definitely my type of sound
Thanks!
I got the same. Fantastic sound... my friends were calling it my Big mandoline!
Nice! I've had several CraViolas, but never a 12-sting! This one sounds awesome!
Beautiful.

@pontil1
Thanks!

Is it a solid Brazilian Rosewood one? With solid spruce top?
None of these guitas had solid back and sides. Many sold as being "Brazilian rosewood" are actually Jacaranda, and ply at that.

Que som é esse?
LED ZEPPELIN OHHH YEAHHHH!!!!!

Sounds like drop d. You tune a 12 string like any other guitar
