CBS, not paramount. Although they always techically where owned by the same conglomerate, they functioned as independent companies with paramount having to pay licensing fees. I believe with the remearger between CBS and Viacom in 2019 the two are effectively the same company with separate business cost centers.

Enterprise was a brilliant show, especially seasons 3 and 4.
Should not have been cancelled when it was, and they most certainly shouldn't have killed Trip. Something like that makes rewatching it in the future pretty tough. Why not have a final mission that brings Trip and T'Pol together again after being split up for a few years?
But hey, we saw what happened with Game of Thrones when a conclusion was rushed.
I think realistically the penultimate episode should have been the last one. I enjoyed seeing Troi and Riker, and it brought out some great moments from the NX01 crew, but leaving it after defeating Terra Prime would have been a fitting end.

@@Andy1341000 You can watch the last episode, but just view it as a bonus feature lol. They killed trip just to have something dramatic happen in the last episode. The book perfectly erases the last episode, and even openly mocks it with all the criticism people directed at it. Within 24 hours the fans had torn the last episode to pieces online. Most of the cast was very critical or even upset with it, and eventually the writers apologized. They tried to cram a season into the last episode and make the fans happy, but it just failed.

I think Enterprise should have gone at least on to a 5th season.. or better yet 6th and 7th. Sure they could have skipped the theme song having lyrics, and also it should have had the Star Trek title in it from the beginning (and not have been called just Enterprise), but still those are just minor nitpicks.

He makes a good point about them trying to cram the main points of about three seasons of main ideas into a single episode and by telling it through the point of view of someone “cliff noting “ it on the holodeck was a way to do that.
It’s sort of like having a beloved novelist in the middle of a engaging series of books finding out he was going to to die before he could complete it, so he shares with his fans the guideline he had written up for the last few books in the series. It would have been nice if seasons 4-7 of Enterprises had come out in a series of short novels or something

Enterprise as aged very well, and I suspect its to do with the tone. TNG was kind of "the middle class in space", where as Enterprise was "the working class in space". The uniforms look like Naval uniforms, the interiors are functional , looking like a naval ship or even a NASA spacecraft (lots of *stuff* attached tto walls, visible cables on the monitrs ettc), rather than aestheic and everyone is kind of at work rather than lounging around listening to violin concertos and stuff. And that working class feeling of grinding your 9-5 , even if it happens to be your favorite thing, is something I think most people can relate to. Thats not to say Enterprise was the first for that, DS9 was very working class as well, right down to people spending their time a Quarks bar and lamenting their hard days at work, hell it even featured labor struggles like the bar staff going on strike over wages. And I kinda think DS9 has aged excellently too (Theres a reason i tends to be the favorite of so many hard-core trekkies)

I always get stick for this but Enterprise was my fave of the whole Star Trek series - personally I liked the whole masculine tone of it as opposed to the TNG campiness. So I watched some clips of the first series of The Next Generation on UA-cam and I can't believe how Politically Correct it was! The funny thing is that they eventually retconned the episode. They released a book that completely changes the thing that a lot of people (myself included) hated the most about the episode. For anyone that’s interested, the book is called The Good That Men Do. The synopsis of the book completely spoils what I’m referring to, which is kind of a bummer because that would have been a fantastic reveal in the book, but whatever. At least what happened in the series finale of Enterprise isn’t the full story anymore, like it was when it first aired.

I can't remember who it was, but somebody on Enterprise said they thought the two-part episode with Peter Weller where they create the ill-fated child of T'Pol and Trip was the real last episode if not a finale per se. That is correct. These are the voyages was Berman and Braga coming back in and interfering again as they had done throughout seasons 1 & 2 (part of the reason the show got canceled in the first place). Midway through season 3 manny Coto had taken over writing and production hence why the show’s quality improved dramatically. The last episode was Bermans last hurrah (he retired in 2005) and they produced that last horrible episode that the entire cast hated except Trinneer. Manny Coto begged paramount and cbs to renew them for a season 5 but they refused unfortunately. Once it was clear season 4 was going to be the last Coto rewrote Terra prime to have trio and t’pols baby die but the last scene of them sitting in t’pols quarters grieving was intended to be the end with a positive moment. Berman and Braga butchered the last episode and only succeeded in stroking their own egos and alienating fans.

The thing is, it's been 13 years since it last aired, the cast have moved on, the sets have to be recreated, and with the CBS/Viacom split, making a new ST show isn't that easy due to different companies owning different parts of ST (idiots for splitting it up like that).
You're best starting afresh with a new series, like they have done with ST:DIS - I've watched all the episodes so far, and definitely has a lot potential. Pretty DIPLOMATIC on the part of Scott Bakula and dare I say a bit revisionist based on what the cast leaked afterword. In fact it was so badly received by audiences that Berman and Braga (the show's original producer and writer) were called into a public press conference to explain what exactly happened.
In fact I have no idea what he (Bakula) is talking about "going along with it". It was leaked during the re-filming of the final scenes of that episode that Bakula actually went off on Braga and Berman backstage after seeing Jolene (T'Pol) break down in tears at how badly the episode was turning out and how Paramount Studios was handling the cancellation. It's also worth mentioning that Braga and Berman rewrote / refilmed the ending of "These are the Voyages" because originally it was filmed early in season 4 as a mirror episode but was so bad that the studio rejected it and relegated it to the trash heap. Manny Coto (who had taken over writing and production midway through season 3 and resurrected the show's ratings), vehemently objected to the episode arguing that "Terra Prime" was supposed to be the last episode, but noooo Berman and Braga had to get the last laugh. In fact "These are the Voyages" was Berman's last hurrah (he retired in 2005) and was really a throwback to his TNG glory days. Everything about the story made no sense based on the developments of seasons 3 and 4. It was like B&B were trying to trash everything Coto did to turn the series around (which he did).

It would be great if they made an Enterprise movie. While TOS & TNG are the only ones to have had full length movies, I've always wanted to see DS9, VOY and ENT all have movies. That said, ENT really, really deserves a movie due to the way it ended with a boatload of loose ends. We never see the details of the formation of the Federation (Archer was supposed to be the 1st President), conflicts & wars with the Romulans & Klingons, new technology introduced & perfected, subtle uniform changes, later histories on characters like T'Pol, Hoshi, Reed, Phlox, and Mayweather. And above all else--(drumroll) a clear, canonical explanation (with no ambiguity) as to who Future Guy really was!

You can tell he wasn't happy with the finale, but he took the highroad. I will say, this wasn't the worst series ending of all time, but it wasn't the best either.... For me, this ending was simply Riker, Troi and TNG boldly going where they weren't invited and didn't truly belong!
Enterprise should have been given the respect of going out on its own and not on the shoulders of another TV show! The show-runners should have had more confidence in the show's abilities and allowed Enterprise to go out on its own, rather than be carried out by TNG. And if having the crew of the NX-01 meet the crew of Enterprise D in some "time travel" episode was something the show-runners wanted to do at some point, they should have scrapped it and walked away from it. However, if this show had to be paired with another show, then it should have been paired with TOS and not TNG because that would have made a lot more sense.
My ending would have closed its final moments with T'Pol at the ceremony for the Enterprise NC-1701's maiden voyage and T'Pol, being very old at this point, and wishing Captain Christopher Pike (not Kirk) long life and prosperity. However, as she was leaving, I would then have her see Spock in her periphery and approach him as well to wish him good luck. Of course, we'd only see Spock's back, but they could have created dialogue by using voice recordings from old shows to create a memorable conversation. T'Pol could have spoken to Spock with a human-like quality, which Spock would find strange, but "fascinating". This would be a great moment between T'Pol and Spock because we all know where Spock and human feelings end up many years later! And, an ending like this would certainly be like Starfleet's original Vulcan science officer passing the torch to the new Vulcan science officer - and that's how you end a TV series!
Again, there are so many ways this could have ended without dragging TNG into the finale. Still, it wasn't totally terrible!

I agree! When I saw episode 21, I truly believed this could have been, and should have been, the finale. There was so much that could have been done if it ended on episode 21.
However, mostly, I just feel as if the show-runners let Enterprise go out on the back of another show! They didn't give Enterprise the respect it deserved by allowing it to be carried out by TNG, rather than allowing it to go out on its own! It didn't even go out as a crew in real-time, but rather, as some holographic account of historical events! To me, this finale, is just TNG boldly going where they weren't invited and didn't belong!

Personally, I think ST: Enterprise was the victim of the times (ie. when reality TV was dominating the airwaves). When the show finally ended and the closing credits were rolling, I remember thinking (sarcastically): oh great.... what are they replacing this show with? More America's Next Top Model? The sad part of it all was that, there really wasn't anything else for me to tune into back then.... and I didn't have cable TV (actually, I still don't.... by choice... because apart from the unit itself and commercials/ads, ain't no way I'm paying for TV programming!). 'Reality TV'? BULL! With the stresses I go through in real life, I watch shows like Star Trek to ESCAPE reality! Sons of btchs! And I couldn't really appreciate what they turned 'Smallville' into when it was also nearing its last seasons.
At least now (in 2018) things aren't so bad........ the whole 'superhero' thing has netted me at least 3 shows that I like to watch during the course of the week: 'The Flash', 'Legends of Tomorrow', and to a lesser extent 'Arrow'. I was a little late getting into 'Supernatural'... didn't get into it until almost 2008, actually (3 years after Enterprise). But I digress. These days, I still wish that there was a Star Trek on REGULAR TV...... since I'm STILL not ever gonna willingly pay for programming (ie. Star Trek Discovery). I'm used to watching Star Trek on regular TV - FOR FREE.... that's what I grew up on.... and that's what I want again! BRING STAR TREK BACK TO REGULAR TV!

OK so let's bring in Ferengi and Borg, who we didn't know about until TNG, or Romulans who we never saw until "Balance of Terror." They could and should have done a lot more on the origins of the Federation, the Andorians and Telerites. Voyager did a much better job with time paradoxes. Should have left it there. There were some outstanding episodes that took on social issues as Star Trek always did so well. "Carbon Creek" and "North Star" come to mind. My most fitting memory of the whole series was it was just Riker and Troi's holodeck program. I'd give "These are the Voyages" a 10 out of 10 if they hadn't knocked off Trip for no reason.

So condescending and lame. Bakula kept it classy answering this question here, as he's not a confrontational guy, which is fine. Doesn't want to burn bridges. OK, sure, the theme song sucked, and they had a rough time getting going early on (remember the snooze-fest episodes from TNG Seasons 1 and 2?????), but the Suliban/Temporal Cold War and Xindi arcs were noble efforts that succeeded on several levels, and I'm betting that the Season 5 plan to finally delve into the Federation-Romulan War could have been a third-time's-a-charm deal, but we'll never know.

At its best, it was some of the best Trek I'd seen. But at its worst...deary me, it could be really, really terrible. Enterprise suffered because of an indifferent 2nd season and the 3rd season Xindi Arc which could have been done in 6-8 episodes rather than 24.
However, on the strength of the 4th season, Enterprise absolutely deserved at least another season particularly with Manny Coto at the helm. +Naterrs - I agree that there were some great episodes in Season 3 and it's perhaps undeservedly maligned. However, there were some very weak episodes and the arc could have been done in 8-10 episodes at most.
The problem with a Season arc is that you have to be a real fan to watch it all the way through and it's not something that people can casually pick up.
Season 2 unfortunately killed Enterprise. They were maybe 4-5 good episodes and the rest were mediocre or downright appalling.
I loved the idea of a prequel but not exploring the Romulan War or the formation of the Federation were massively missed opportunities. Thus, I think it's a real shame that Enterprise didn't get a fifth season - a fifth season of 2-3 episode arcs with the occasional 1 single episode would have worked really well. Coto did a fabulous job in Season 4.

I agree that the fourth season was also great, with the exception of the horrible finale, and that there should have been another season.

I know the Federation and its early members are bound to have conflicts, but the fact that such a big conflict was never mentioned in any of the TV series or movies, makes the intensity/indepthness of the war stupid. More time should have been spent on the Romulan Earth conflict, and more of the struggles of an early Federation/Coalition.
