  • How to change driver side blend door actuator/air mix control servo motor sub-assembly on a 2014 Toyota Venza. Shout out to the parts guy at Heffner Toyota, the most useless individual I have ever met in my entire life, but anyways more info on that at the end. In the description below, I use actuator and motor interchangeably, I am talking about the same thing.
    Part number: 8710607120
    The most important info first, how did I know what to order? Specifically the part number of said individual part? Or how I deduced all said information? Links are below.
    www.tovenza.com/
    - very useful website
    - explore what you can do to your venza
    www.tovenza.com/components-207...
    - Scroll all the way to the bottom of link
    - This is an inside view of the hvac system, all this is behind the dash
    - Air mix control servo motor sub-assembly is the driver side blend door actuator, this motor controls the temperature mixing when you adjust the climate controls
    www.tovenza.com/parts_location...
    - Additional diagram of motor
    parts.lakelandtoyota.com/show...
    - Once I located the part, I searched for the part
    - Part 87106V in the diagram is the part in the above link from tovenza
    - The part number of driver side actuator is 8710607120, this is what toyota uses
    www.tovenza.com/disassembly-20...
    - how to remove parts according to the service manual, ignore the steps as this is a guide for the disassembly of the air conditioning unit, we are only looking to remove the air mix servo motor
    - step 4 is where I am referring to that tube I removed half of in the video (timestamp: 4:57), there is a clip on top of it, making it impossible to remove from underneath
    - step 12 shows how to remove the air mix control servo motor, only 2 screws hold it in
    Symptoms of how I was able to diagnose this issue are:
    - driver side temperature does not change no matter what you input into climate controls
    - passenger side temperature can be changed
    - climate control modes and fan speed can be changed on both driver and passenger sides
    - climate controls do not save upon starting up the car and climate controls don't work for 30 seconds upon starting vehicle
    How I obtained this knowledge? I used google, didn't even know what a blend door was before this job.
    Originally, I had called a toyota dealership for a "blend door actuator", but the parts guy didn't know what I was talking about and gave me some part numbers of stuff he thought I was talking about, so I started doing some research of my own to pinpoint the part. I later found out, this guy was confused because toyota calls it a servo motor and not an actuator. In order to confirm I had the correct part from the website lakelandtoyota, I visited Heffner Toyota to see if they could help confirm I had the correct part. I already had decided I would buy an OEM part from the dealership as this is my dad's vehicle, and he doesn't mind paying. I was going to do the labour as I enjoy fixing things up and this didn't seem like a hard task. The parts guy from Heffner knew what I was talking about, showed me the identical diagram from lakelandtoyota for a brief second and we had confirmed this was the part I wanted to replace. Upon asking this individual what the part number was, he said "I can't do that". His reasoning behind this stupid decision is that "I can then go buy the part from amazon/ebay for cheaper". I then went to another dealership and ordered the part, thanks for nothing man. This part costs about $300 CAD for a simple motor and plastic gears, I bet I could probably fix it myself by replacing the little motor, but as I said, I didn't pay for it.

    Thanks so much for posting this video. I was able to replace my own blend door actuator. Saved me a ton of money and I’m feeling accomplished 👊🏻

    I love that you posted this; thank you for your efforts here. Your expletives at the end, perfectly capture the pain of the required car contortionism :)

    Thank God you did this video. My wife's 2010 Venza had the same problem, and the Toyota dealership quoted her $3324 to fix the problem. They said the entire HVAC assembly needed replacing when it was a $138 servo motor instead.

    YOU ARE A SAVIOR!!!! I have the same exact issue with my 2019 Toyota Corolla LE. I have been quoted $1000+ for this piece. They don’t actually know how to fix the problem. Thanks man 🙌🏾🙌🏾.

      I have a 2014 Toyota Corolla LE having issues with the temperature settings. Heat only works when i have the temp set to HIgh, blows cool at 85 and colder as the temperature is lowered.

      Mine has the same exact issue as your car in the video but it blows no heat at all and cool air up to 70 degrees. Do you think it’s the same part that needs to be replaced.

    Great video! Question, when you were having the problem, do you recall if the modes also didn't work? Meaning, the air blowing out was stuck on one of the modes and the rest didn't work? I'm having that problem with my 2011 and I'm wondering if this part will fix it.

    • @keithlau8140
      @keithlau8140  Рік тому +1

      All the modes worked, just the temperature didn't work. If you look at the website I linked, I believe there is another actuator motor that deals with the modes. If your modes are broken, this is not the part. You need the part that changes the modes. This part only changes the temperature.

    Great video! I have a 2014 RX350 with a similar problem. The passenger side goes from cold to warm but never gets hot. Where did you get the replacement instructions?

      I don't know why you are watching the video if you are blind. I made time and effort to make this video, all the information is within said video and description. If you go to 2:53 time stamp, and actually open your eyes it says "info link in description". If you actually made the smallest amount of effort to go to the description, there is a part where I said "how to remove parts according to the service manual" and there is a link above this sentence in the description. I made time to make a video and there is a diagram of how to get to this part in that link with STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS. I suggest you bring your vehicle to the dealership or someone who knows what they are doing.

    I have a camry 2014 XLE, the passenger side Heat doesn’t work and no problem with driver’s side..so now should I replace blend door acuator only on passenger side or on both sides?

    • @keithlau8140
      @keithlau8140  Рік тому

      If your car has dual climate control, there should be a blend door actuator for each side. The blend door actuator just mixes the temperature into the car. So, yes just replace the passenger side. No need to fix something that aint broke.

    Hey I have a Toyota Corolla 2016 s I have an issue with the a/c that doesn’t change modes and when I start the car it stays in auto for half a minute and I don’t know if I change that It will fix the problem.

    • @keithlau8140
      @keithlau8140  Рік тому

      It means your mode actuator is broken. There is a separate actuator for the modes and temperatures. You will need to search that up yourself, or just ask the dealership to guide you to the right part. You can ask for a parts diagram they will print out for you. Just go ask the parts department.

    In my case Venza 2011 Temperature is changing everywhere, however not able to defrost windshield at all. Air not blowing from vent under window absolutely. How to find out from wich side need to change actuator or "blend door actuator"?

    • @keithlau8140
      @keithlau8140  6 місяців тому

      In your case, follow that link, you should be able to find another servo motor for the modes. There is a servo motor for the temperature (one in this video) and theres another servo motor for the modes. You can always go to the dealership and ask them which servo motor is for the modes, get the part number and could try to find it cheaper online or order through dealership.

    What's happens if the gear that the motor connects to is broken off, the white piece? A while ago I noticed a broken piece which looked actually like the one in this video. However, when I followed what you did I notice mine is missing. Then I remembered the piece I found. Looks like it deteriorated. Only the front vents left and right work. The middle and rear passenger does not... I have a wife and two little ones. Takes time but I'm cooling the car with front left and right vents only and defog

      Sorry you probably already fixed it by now hopefully, but if you found the same servo motor as mine, and its broken, you will need to replace it.

    So I have a question the blend door tooth on driver side is broken and it stays on cold all the time . What do I need to replace in this case ?

      If im not mistaken you will have to do the same thing here, replace the entire servo motor.
