    I absolutely LOVE that guitar. I have an ESP Horizon NT2 that I would totally give up for this M2. ESP have been building some REALLY fucking beautiful guitars lately. I imagine they know with the switch to E2 that they needed to step it up with the quality and designs. I have yet to play a bad E2...every single one of them have been PERFECT, not a single flaw found. They are worth every penny. Japanese ESP craftsmanship at its finest.

      Yeah! I have to admit though that I am considering on changing the bridge pickup. The low-end is real good and punchy but I think that on the higher strings it tends to be quite thin and brittle sounding. My Schecters solo sound is alot fuller imo.

    Excellent unboxing vid/playing! Just ordered the purple version this morning. Chose it over an Ibanez prestige. How does the neck feel to you? I don't need something razor thin but I definitely like fast feeling necks for lead lines. I'll essentially be paranoid about the money I spent on it until it's actually here 😂

    • @leinojp
      @leinojp  4 роки тому +1

      Being paranoid is definitely understandable considering the money spent on these things😀 But thanks for the compliment and that purple version looks real good too! The neck feels perfect to me, not too thin at least - the only thing I dislike about this guitar is that the fretmarks on this guitar make it hard for me to navigate on the higher frets. Still getting accustomed to that but it might also have to do with the fact that I regard myself more as a riffer/rhythm player.
      Hope you get your guitar soon and it is the perfect match👌🏻

    Hey there! What's your opinion on the scale length? Interesting that ESP went with a 25.5 scale length here, did that impact your decision at all? I have a Schecter 7 and know they are 26.5, wondering if it really matters at the end of the day, cuz either way, sounds SICK. Also looks like I have some riffs to go learn... those Eartheria riffs were so tasty!

    • @leinojp
      @leinojp  3 роки тому

      Thanks Randol, this comment made my day.👍🏻 Always stoked when someone likes our stuff!
      But no, it didn't really impact my decision that much. I got accustomed to this scale lenght quite fast and it is a really comfortable guitar to play. Long stretchy chords are easier on the ESP for example. Then again Schecter is a bit better for tight rhythms on the lower strings because the strings are less sloppy due to the scale lenght. I shuffle quite a lot between tunings and the lowest I go is ADADGBE. The low strings could be a tad tighter when playing in that tuning.

    Hey there. I got the same guitar 2 months ago and I absolutely love it! It looks amazing, plays amazing and it sounds absolutely killer!
    But.....
    My guitar doesn’t stay in tune properly. I have to retune every other song or so which is super annoying and really disappointing for an instrument in that price range.
    Before I played an SG tuned down to B with 12-60. I never had ANY problems like that.
    Did you have any tuning problems with your guitar?

    • @leinojp
      @leinojp  4 роки тому

      Hello! At first I had the same problem. It felt that especially the g-string wouldn't stay in tune at all and with every bend it shifted but some other strings had the same issue also. I too was really bummed out by the fact that a high-end guitar like this would keep its tuning so poorly. However I feel that after I got it set up a few times in different shops properly the problem pretty much disappeared.👍🏻
      - jp

    • @Jaymze9370
      @Jaymze9370 4 роки тому +2

      I had the same problem and I think it because the nut hasn’t been correctly cut for the size of the string so it’s causing tuning instability , once I corrected that issue it performed much better. Though this SHOULD NOT be happening with a guitar in this price range, pretty embarrassing for ESP if you ask me. I would always opt for the older ‘Made In Japan’ with the ESP logo on the headstock, they are truly better made instruments, I’ve played them for years and trust me there is a difference. They are no longer made to the same quality as the older ones, also there are rumours that the E-II guitars may actually be part made/finished in China, a pic online apparently showed a rack of E-II guitars in the background of a Chinese guitar making factory.

  • @jordanw6373
    @jordanw6373 4 роки тому

    Great vid! Do you still have this guitar? Been thinking about one of these but the last E-II I bought, the sustain was horrible and the neck didn't feel that great. In retrospect, any thoughts on your purchase? thx

    • @leinojp
      @leinojp  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks Jordan! Yes, still have it and use it as my main guitar atm.👍🏻 It is a great guitar and I have no major complaints about the quality of it. The issues I have with this guitar boil down to personal preferences regarding the missing fretmarks and overall playability of the guitar. I personally am more comfortable with a different kind of a bridge and neck. So in retrospect I'd probably look into other options as well and I think that there is plenty of awesome axes available for a lower price - the price tag was a bit too much for what I got out of it.
      You might like it tho so I'd definitely go and test it out if you have the opportunity. :)

    Hello greetings from Italy! Can you share the settings you're using for this sound? I cannot get something like that from mine, the pickups sound too open and not really aggressive, i tried with some kemper profiles and my powerball II but nothing. Thank you in advance!!

    • @leinojp
      @leinojp  5 років тому +1

      Hello Marco and cheers from Finland! Hmm, that seems quite odd to me since these pickups in my opinion sound quite aggressive and they deliver a really punchy gain sound from the get go. That combined with a proper metal amp like the Powerball II you have and it should give you a solid gain sound. Does your Powerball work fine with other guitars or is it only with this one?
      I could probably do even a video at some point to showcase the settings I use when playing with this guitar but I can give you a rough idea on the settings I used here. The Yamaha I used only has gain, master, bass, middle and treble controls. Gain and master at 2 o'clock, bass a bit below 12 o'clock, middle and treble are at about 3 o'clock.
      So the gain is relatively low on my settings. Hope you get the idea and it helps. :)

      @@leinojp thank you for all the infos and for your time! Well the other guitars work better with other pick ups, i have an ibanez with liquidfire/crunch lab combo and an esp with sentient/pegasus combo, they seem to have a more aggressive sound with power ball and with kemper, that is why i was thinkink about something wrong with my warpig pickups. Just for curiosity can i ask you what kind of settings would you use with engl powerball II and if you like to use overdrives with it? Thank you in advance and for your time!!

    • @leinojp
      @leinojp  5 років тому +1

      @@marco06061994 No problem man! If the other guitars work fine and produce a good sound then you should get a good sound with similar settings using Warpigs. Or at least you should get a good sound by doing minor adjustments to gain, presence, depth punch, treble, middle or bass. So admittedly it is a bit weird if not.
      I haven´t personally used Powerball II so it is hard to give good advice without access to the amp. I´d probably try to apply similar knob settings that I had on my Yamaha since I usually end up to similar settings on every amp. Then just adjust presence and depth punch to your liking.
      The other option is to set everything to noon and just start to work your way knob by knob and try to find a good sound.
      I myself like to use an overdrive pedal in front of an amp because it tightens up the sound in my opinion. The change is subtle but it makes a difference for me. I use a Seymour Duncan OD-805 but wouldn´t recommend it because it is too pricey. Instead I´d go with something like Maxon 808 or MXR Zakk Wylde Overdrive. But if you have an option to try different pedals with your amp then I´d suggest you go and test to see which fits you ENGL the best. :)

    Love the guitar bro! I'm actually planing on getting this next year with the idea of putting in some Steph Carpenter Fishman pickups... My question to you is, have you had the back plate off that covers the pots and switch? If so does it look like I could fit a 9v in there? The info would help me greatly.

    • @leinojp
      @leinojp  5 років тому +1

      Thank you very much dude! That sounds like a great plan! I´ve been wanting to test out Fishmans for a long time myself - heard great things about them.
      But yes, I have had the back plate off a few times and I´d say that there probably is room for a 9 volt battery + wiring. I popped it open just now and took a few photos for you to see it yourself also. I hope that the photos help you and let me know if you can´t access them via the Dropbox -link below.

      @@leinojp Thank you so much bro! Yeah looks like i will be able to get a 9v in there. This is GREAT news! There is nothing wrong with BK just came to me as a thought and now I really want to go forward. 2500 dollar project but I think it'll be well worth it. I hope to find one with the type of top you have that spalted maple top pattern on yours is just PERFECT.
      Curious what you think about Schecter... I'm picking up a sls elite, haven't decided on color (black fade, or antique fade) The specs are solid for a 1000 dollar guitar.
      Update: After talking to my sweetwater guy we decided it would be far better to have a battery box installed, which they do (didn't know that) It'll cost a bit more but no possible noise interference. This is still a year away but if I remember I'll get back to you here and share pics of the completed project. Anyway thanks for the info and pics. \m/

      I think that Shecters are also phenomenal guitars. Before I bought this ESP I had a Schecter as a main guitar and the playability is superb imo. Also really reliable.
      Nice to hear that you found a solution with the Sweetwater folks! And it'd be awesome if you remember to share some pictures afterwards. Would be really nice to see the end result.🤘🏻

      @SH Oh I have. Personally I think it's a bit high for an ltd (plus I just wanted a Japan made e-II) I know it has an evertune but I'm not really sold on those anyway. I hear bends can feel..."off".

      @SH You love it huh? NICE! Yeah don't get me wrong I love Korn and was inspired by their music to experiment more with my music. What I was talking about is I've heard that when they are set up to bend the bends still seem a bit "off" I researched the hell outta evertune so I know what it can do. I can see having at least one guitar with one in the arsenal, just not sure if sir Headly is the one. ;-)

      I get what you’re saying, but you should really upgrade to a mini head. Once I went to tube heads I just couldn’t play on a solid state again. I even bought a Katana 100W for the apartment but it just doesn’t compare. My ears are spoiled by expensive high gain tube amps. I kinda wish I never went to tube amps hahaha.

    I saw on forums that these have bad quality control. And their qc is hit or miss. you may get a lemon or maybe no. I think it’s because of the bare knuckle pickups. They’re overrated I think. I had some juggernauts and I hated them. I would get one and put work into it but absolutely hate the headstock. Reminds me of my garbage Jackson that I also hated.

    • @leinojp
      @leinojp  5 років тому

      I've heard similar things. It is a real shame considering how high-end the price is. I think these Bare knuckles have a terrific low end with a real punch but they lack something when playing higher strings. So overall I prefer EMG at the moment.
      I think that this particular guitar is good and there is nothing wrong with its quality but I might sell this in the near future and try something else. We'll see.
