I think the mystery ore may be ilmenite, though I can't say for sure, btw. It's mostly used for T3 refractory for the cementation furnace, which itself is used for steel-making. Ilmenite (or titanium) can only be mined with steel currently. Again, may be entirely off with that, but it's my best guess!
Terra preta got changed in 1.19, any land generated in 1.19 onward will have high fertility soil instead of terra preta, the high fertility soil can be used to make terra preta, but you can also make it without the high fertility soil, there Dw multiple recipies laid out by the in game guide. I'm really loving this series so far. Keep it up!
You should also make a designated greenhouse before your next winter, your crops get a +5 degree C warmth bonus, so your growing season gets extended, and if you do one around your bees they'll stay active longer too
I've been mapping out where things will go and I've got a few concepts for a greenhouse, lots of projects on the go but that would definitely be a good one :)
You put some damn fine episodes, very entertaining. Clear away grass or plants, fruit trees work better without having to “share” nutrients with other plants. I got 60% of my trees to grow by making sure they were babied. I spread them at 5 spaces apart. They are such divas. 😂 Once they start producing, make a fruit press to get all the juice. Also, if you’re ready for some long days, make a distillery. Oh and honey will make mead. You can make any type of spirits you want, from beer to wine to brandy. This game is so awesome.
@@TimmyTwoNipples "Butchery" mod is also pretty good, allowing you to carry your prey back to base, hang them on hook and skin them, then let them bleed out before butchering them. it also adds bone picks, allowing you break stone but not ore; sewing kits made from bone needles and dried sinew to save flax. it also allows you to smoke your meat raw, reducing its saturation, but increasing its shelf time (good 4 bush meat)
With the Fire pits instead of waiting for the rain to go away you can just make a roof on top of them. Don't just add a block on it it's not the charcoal pit. This lets you use them in rainy/snowing weather. you need to get prepared for steel age because steel is closer to meteoric iron
Aaah fruit trees in VS are such a joy (not). Cold fruit tree cuttings require vernalization process. Its when they get cold in the winter, but not too-too cold. Also every cutting has like 40% chance of surviving. Also #2 new trees start as young. So.... you need a new winter in order for 40% of your orchard to start as young trees. And only next year you'll see some fruits. Vintage story is fun :) Awesome series, my dude!
Definitely on the horizon, I'm gonna focus on base upgrades for this coming winter and then pivot to steel once I feel like I've got my food situation under control :)
Something you probably haven't realized - this game has an insulation mechanic, and, unfortunately, chiseling blocks usually removes the block's insulation (specifically, if the inward face of the block has more than 20 voxels missing, it no longer provides insulation). That's part of why it gets so cold INSIDE your home during winter. If you're going to chisel down your walls, you should do it from the OUTSIDE!
Great info! I do hope they change that though. Kinda silly that my chiselled glass windows don’t insulate just because I removed the inner most layer of glass
Fence up your currants and cranberries to keep out raccoons. Bears love honey and are not afraid to lay waste to your apiary. I usually dig a 2 wide by 4 deep trench around my flowers and skepts. You can use either honey or a lump of fat with a crock of food to seal it to lengthen its shelf life. Handy for winter when you’ll eat your hearty stews. Build a 7 x 7 x 7 windowless room (cellar) to store your food either in the ground or above ground. Keep the door shut at all times to keep food fresh.
Tips 101: 1. Add roof on top of pit kiln to light them in rain 2. Use lantern instead of torches in offhand 3. Use stone path to walk/run faster 4. Tera pretha no longer naturally spawn in 1.19 but made with high fertility soil / coal . high fertility soil now naturally spawn it is a bit darker than medium fertility soil 5. That ore might be Nickel/Titanium. nickel is only used to make amazing gadgets. And titanium can be used to make a lvl.3 blast furnace to make steel
one of the big things you learn about VS is that Infrastructure in any form, be it a simple dirt path, little bridge or looking at a mountain and doing your best Gurren Lagan impression, is it adds up! You should totally pop in on a public vanilla server *cough* come visit us *cough* and see you're not the only one that thinks spending several in-game days/weeks drilling and mining to save a walk/climb is normal :D

Not to mention your use of historical architecture in your builds. All in all it is a joy to watch. Looking forward to the next one!
So i dont have lots of time in this game, but that tunnel must have taken 10+ real hours to do. Have you not found bees yet?? Build a few Skeps and go search for bees, usually the first thing you should be doing after building a hole in the ground to sleep in safety, LOL Nice tunnel tho bud, maybe use some of the torch holders in there and have it lit up every 30-40 blocks, so you go dark light dark light, also help with knowing how far down the tunnel you are.
I definitely need to figure out the wax situation, I've been spending a lot of gears on trader wax (I want to be buying their insanely expensive tapestries instead..)
You are doing fantastic!! I loved the little schematic you made to show what parts of your house you were referring to. I’m excited to see what more you do!!
As a few comments have said, put something over the pit kilns. You could maybe make a permanent section for them and chisel the blocks to look like little roofs over the kilns
You hit the nail on the head, I know it would make my life easier but the idea of dirt blocks everywhere drives me crazy lmao I might just make little roofs like you're suggesting! :)
Absolutely, it may have taken me an irreversable amount of time that I'll never get back just trekking around the mountain, but atleast it looks amazing! lol (I still think it will speed things up.. hopefully)
The tunnel looks pretty liminal dude - I like it! Maybe though it could benefit from some fat lamps, and like a wooden fence post every now and then in there, to mimic the spotty lighting of freeway tunnels. Love your let's play, it's pretty refreshing to watch, almost all the folks who make vintage story videos have like encyclopedic of the game.

It was very daunting but there's something about tackling projects like this that feels very rewarding lol like flattening hills in survival Minecraft to build a giant castle on top!
For the tunnel, I'd advise to use torch holders to light it up a bit. Like you place a torch holder and a torch at the entrances and the exits to caves and such.
