    Enjoyed your video. I have a 2013 also in indigo blue and still looks perfectly new but after 6 months I've put 12000 miles on it. It's a great car and does well in the winter weather. I'll be driving mine till the wheels fall off.

    Hello Lou, great video. We have the 2013 3.6R with Eyesight and just got done rolling over 36,500 miles. Have had the car less than 1 1/2 years. We are very tough on our cars due to towing, camping, heavy winter driving and lots of those miles have been at 3,000 ft elevation during hunting season. This is our first Subaru and I'm absolutely blown away at how much whipping it has taken with little to 0 visible wear. Nothing has fallen off, nothing squeaks or squeals, brakes have plenty of life and stopping power, the ride and torque of that 3.6 has not diminished in any way since I drove it out of the dealership. We did, however, have to get used to the kickdown of the transmission. Our research has shown that the 3.6 has an aggressive acceleration program that causes the tranny to thump on kickdown every once in a while. Because of the aggressive program it climbs hills with lots of power. It seems like the steeper the hill the more power it draws from that 3.6. After a few thousand miles we've learned how to control that thump. Other than that.....WOW is the only word I can use. Have been to the shop for oil changes only. I also have a Jeep Rubicon with half the miles, it has been in the shop for repairs 4 times during the last 8 months due to poor build quality. Yep, we are new converts.

      Hi Eddie. Thanks for the great comment. Everything still going well for me and the Outback. I'm only still at 10,300 miles and the only thing bugging me is that I cant keep the carpets in front clean in the winter. Frustrating. :o) I did put tints on my windows finally and really like the way it looks now with a darker tint (30%). Contemplated getting nice dark rims for it - other than the stock rims I have on it now, but I don't think I want to drop $500 + on that really. Take Care.

      Hi again Lou, funny you should mention keeping the floors cleaned. I've been using the Husky Floor Liners all year-round and my floors look great so far. You still get some dirt that gets through the edges but it has really made a huge difference in helping keep the floors looking good. My neighbor has the WeatherTech and they seem to have better coverage on the 13' outback. My only real complaint is the tires, we've had a brutal winter with record setting snow falls here in the East Coast and the stock tires have been useless. Again, my neighbor has a set of Altimax Arctic for winter use on his Outback and he's been unstoppable. Good luck with the floors, Ed

      @80srockerable 10 років тому

      Lou M I bought Weather Tech liners and like them. A little hard, but they cover substantially more of the foot area than the oem rubber mats.

    I agree with Outbacks not having a lot of get up, that's really my only complaint with mine. Every time I merge onto the highway I feel like someone is going to smash into me because of how slow the Outback accelerates.

    We have a 2.5 Outback LImited 2014 with CVT. When we hit the mountains of PA it struggles. The CVT and boxer engine whines and quickly hits its max. Overall decent car, but wish Subaru had thrown a few more HP in with the CVT transmission and boxer engine. Although the boxer engine is balanced (less vibration) and often seen as safer due to its low profile, It's not a great accelerator unless you increase HP or slap a turbo onto it. On flat terrain the vehicle is fine, but you'll want to merge onto fast interstate on-ramps with extra caution. Like the added fuel economy of the 2.5 engine, but more power going up hills and merging into traffic would be a plus. The 3.6 liter is another option with increased HP, some loss in fuel economy, and a higher sticker price. That is a help, but you're pushed to a price point where you start to look at other options.

    I have a 2014 outback in white pearl. Approaching 91k 2nd owner bought it at 70k. It's amazing haven't done anything to it besides basic maintenance. Will splurge her closer to 100k with tune ups and what not. It's amazing in Oregon snow, roadtrip and camping very versatile. I wanna see how long it will last. Reliable so far. Worried about the CVT but hoping reg maintenace will leave me less worried.

    I'd love this car as a manual, but the only configuration Subaru sells it with standard transmission is the diesel engine. Which wouldn't be too bad for either fuel mileage or fuel cost (diesel gets subsidized here by the government), but the taxes on diesels, even if their emissions meet Euro5, are just too high for the amount of driving I'd do...So I will have to be on the lookout for a used one (Subarus are really rare here though), especially since I know exactly what I want (Sunroof: Must have! Leather seats: No way!), so there's even less to chose from (if any...)

    Thanks for the review. My wife and I just bought a 2013 OB today. We are moving out of Florida to Colorado and have heard nothing but great reviews about the OB especially in winter conditions. We've visited Colorado many times and most of the cars you see are OB's, that tells you something. Super excited to explore Colorado in our OB! Cheers mate.

      +infurium Very nice. I have since replaced the outback already for another Subaru (WRX) to have something with a little more fun. I truly loved the outback and would buy another and I am here in Nebraska (close to Colorado). I have had NO issues in the winters at all with my Outback. Congrats on your purchase....and enjoy that Outback - it's a great car. :)

    Ah yes, the CVT whine at 7:28. I forgot that this vehicle now has the CVT. But, I'm sure you get used to it, and if you have the radio playing, you probably don't even notice it that much. Nice car! I'm seriously considering one after my current lease expires. Just a question of WHICH Subaru I will finally choose. The comfort of this vehicle vs. the Forester is really pulling me toward the Outback. Thanks for the review!

    • @80srockerable
      @80srockerable 10 років тому +1

      It doesn't do this if you don't over accelerate. In fact, when I accelerate with my '13 2.5L cvt it is pretty direct & linear & all the bad tings I read about cvt's, I think this one is pretty non intrusive. I also use the paddle shifters to downshift at times for engine braking.

    • @orckiller91
      @orckiller91 10 років тому +1

      I've found the CVT very.... counter-intuitive as you constantly expect the car to shift as it holds it's RPS until you reach the desired speed then they just drop like a rock. I've got a 2014 impreza sport right now and I love it.

    • @coffeekhan
      @coffeekhan 10 років тому +2

      orckiller91 Good to hear. I'm sure that it is a non-issue once you get used to it. Even a "bad" CVT like all the reviewers said about the one in the Jeep Patriot wasn't that noticeable when I test drove one a couple of years ago. I didn't even realize that it had a CVT until later.

    • @RobertMauro
      @RobertMauro 10 років тому +1

      Bob Keilitz I just drove the 2014 yesterday (my 2010 was in for its regular maintenance, and it was a loaner car), and their new CVTs feel a lot like an automatic, for the most part. There are those weird moments when you realize that it's actually not shifting, but instead "sliding" the gear ratio - but that turned out to be not in the least bit distracting. By the end of the day, I wasn't even noticing the difference anymore. I was quite impressed, overall.

    • @orckiller91

    Do you happen to know if Subaru's still have the issue of blown head gaskets that happened back in the 90's and earlier 2004? I was mentioning to a good friend (who's a mechanic) about getting myself a Subaru, but was turned down when he mentioned to me that Subaru's are known for having blown head gaskets after 70k miles or so. Got any ideas? Please advise. Thanks.

      My 2010 has 131,000 miles on it and doesn't even seep. And I use it on and off road, most recently on the beach (video in my channel).

    • @Noah_E
      @Noah_E 10 років тому +2

      Your friend should have mentioned that the head gasket is only an issue with EJ205 and EJ255 naturally aspirated and EJ257 turbocharged engines. Those engines haven't been used in years. When it does fail you replace it with a gasket with an updated design and materials and the problem is solved forever. Also, change the anti-freeze every two years and it may never happen in the first place. The current FA, FB, and EZ series engines have displayed no issues at all.

    • @DayRider76
      @DayRider76 9 років тому +2

      I have a 2000 forester that blew the head gasket at 100,000 mi. Fixed it myself, I found it rather easy to work on, so for me not a real turn off! Have a 2012 out back and not to worried about it.

    • @Banom7a

    Only 8800 miles and no real wear marks....understandable. My 2014 OB has over 20K miles in about 1.5 years and it looks good, but it only took a couple months for someone to open their door into mine leaving a small dent. Another paint scuff on the other side from someone's door. Makes me want to have purchased Subaru's paint protection policy when I bought it.

    • @ssphoto66
      @ssphoto66 9 років тому

      Steve ssphoto Another thing on mine....I usually don't have to rev the engine that much to get the same amount of acceleration. I found that pressing the gas doesn't really do much for acceleration and just a light pedal will have nearly the same result. How about you? You may have been on a hill; that might explain it. Have you experimented with the paddle shifters in Auto yet?

    • @BMSLou
      @BMSLou  9 років тому

      Steve ssphoto I loved this Outback....but recently traded it in for the sportier WRX Subaru. Have had a tough time lately, as I hit a deer with the WRX only 4 weeks into ownership and as i type.....it is still in the shop. :(

  • @Blue_Dun
    @Blue_Dun 8 років тому

    I bought a 2013 Subaru Outback in November 2012 so it's almost four years old. It just hit 50 thousand miles. First thing I noticed was how difficult it was to keep it going down the freeway without constantly adjusting it. And it was difficult to do it with one hand. Alignments by the service dept. did nothing. Turns out many people were having the same issue with the Outback. Within a short time I started getting upper back pain after driving the car for any distance. It was difficult to notice just test driving it, but it has the most uncomfortable seats I've ever experienced in a car. I also found many reviews online from other owners with the same complaint. My wife refuses to drive the car because of this. Before it hit the 50K miles, warning lights came on while on a fishing trip. Subaru advertises the vehicle as capable of light off-road driving, but this is a deception. I've taken it camping and on fairly smooth dirt roads maybe two times and while on this last trip the traction and brake light went on. And when I try to turn the vehicle, say backing out of a parking lot, it feels like something is rubbing or there's a brake on. But the parking brake is off. They want 1000 dollars to replace an electronic panel to shut off the warning lights. It cost me 130 for them to diagnose the problem. But they still haven't figured out what the problem is when I turn the wheel and back up or turn to get in and out of a parking place. Not telling how much that's going to cost. The outside temperature reading just quit working. Today it was 98 degrees where I live and it was stuck on 72. The cover to the overhead holder for sunglasses won't stay closed. Funny thing, I have literally never used it. One day when I got into my car to go to work, the door or cover was hanging down and when I tried to push it closed, it just kept coming open. I had to shimmy a piece of paper in it to get it to stay closed. This was my first Subaru and I bought it because it appeared to be the car to meet all my needs: all wheel drive, great for light off road camping and fishing, good gas mileage, and with a rack could haul plenty of camping and fishing equipment. Unfortunately it's turned out to be the biggest piece of junk I've ever owned and will never own another Subaru nor can I recommend this car. I've had lots of other cars from other car makers and I'd take any one of them over this. Maybe the OB has a couple of good features, but what good are they if the car is falling apart.

    • @RobertMauro
      @RobertMauro 10 років тому

      mudhudgie95 Hi, I own the 2010 6MT, and what I can say is, you can expect better than rated gas mileage if you drive it decently. I don't mean driving like a granny on Sunday, but just not doing anything crazy. I average 25-30 mpg and I commute to work 30 miles each way 5 or 6 days a week - often in traffic. On solid highway driving, I get 28-32mpg (such as when I do my road trips to upstate New York).
      A few suggestions, if you haven't driven the 6MT yet:
      (1) it's not a "quick shifter" like a sports car - slamming from one gear to the other is not a good idea.
      (2) 1st and 2nd gear are cranky when the car is cold (say, during the winter) - let the car warm up, or you will find it a little tough to get it into those gears. That's been alleviated to a great degree on the 2011s and up via the synthetic gear oil they switched to, but is still a slight problem. Besides, my 2010 has 131,000 miles (and then some) on it and runs like new, doesn't seep oil or anything else, and drives flawlessly - not running the car cold is a big help in accomplishing that.
      (3) 1st gear is geared somewhat inbetween "fun" needs and fuel efficiency - don't expect it to be phenomenal off the line... though, it is peppy. And it handles "fun" very nicely, such as my recent beach off-roading adventure (there's a video in my channel).
      Hope you enjoy yours as much as I am loving mine!

    • @mudhudgie95
      @mudhudgie95 10 років тому

      Robert Mauro i have test driven one and i thought the clutch was perfect, the shifter was notchy and somewhat stiff, but not terrible. i pretty much never rev past 3000 rpm when shifting, so i should get fairly decent mileage. do you have to run synthetic motor oil, or, can you run normal oil that just requires more changes?

    • @mudhudgie95
      @mudhudgie95 10 років тому

      how has your clutch held up so far? i haven't stalled mine yet, but i let go of the clutch too early a few times and had a bad rocking thing happen, i hope i didn't do any damage to the driveline or engine mounts. haven't driven a manual full time for over ten years.

    How did the car fair? Do you still have it?

    • @BMSLou

      I do not. I didn’t keep this outback for more than a couple years.
      I went from this to a Subaru wrx to now a Subaru Forester xt.

      @@BMSLou Any major issues with the outback? CVT head gasket issues? I'm considering buying one. I like the space and want an AWD for snow trips.

    im considering this, and the crosstek and and the 4th gen 4runners... pricing is near the same... but i know the 4 runners will last 200k+ miles. and more off road abilities... but do i meed that... im interstes in the 3.6 v6 though since i do want to road trip all over the country and dont know if the 4runner will just be over all better for that...
