Every little thing that we the people have gotten in recent decades, Bernie had a hand in it, so he has done more than 'try.' It's just such a long haul, a tedious and relentless fight that he wages on our behalf for anything we get. Clinics in rural areas, cutting of insulin price gouging, some people getting some student loan relief, to name a few of the things he has helped to effect. He keeps co-sponsoring bills, often working across the aisle, and pushing the politicians who are owned by special interests and big money donors to do better by their constituents. Every politician out there knows that Bernie is the real deal. Even the ones who fight him and call him ridiculous things and lie to the people all day long will sometimes break down and remark about how honest Bernie is. I don't see how Bernie can stand to be around the bulk of them.... but that is just another one of his talents, his God-given gifts and demonstration of his fortitude.

The quality, affordability and availability of food in the US is declining. ~40 million Americans (12.5% total) don't have enough to eat, including ~8 million children, ~783,000 of which are starving. More than half a million Americans are homeless. America is many good things, but has a sick society, primarily because of greed. Began working at 16 years old at Woolworths and worked til I was 65. Now I'm 79 and broke! My SS is only $16,000 a year. Thank God for SNAP. Currently living sickly in a moldy apt and can't afford to move to a higher priced better place. I sent HUD applications to states surrounding mine. Bernie, even to VT and Maine. Actually, the wealthy pay most of the taxes in the US. That's simply a fact. They own more wealth, and they pay more taxes. Social Security retirement payments were never intended to be the sole income of retirees - they have always been intended as a _supplemental_ source of income. Unfortunately, what we see is that 40% of retirees in the US have SS benefits as their only income.

My ignorant ass voted for the first time in 2020. In my defense, I was too tired and busy surviving and raising my kids and paying the bills to even pay attention, and I think that's probably the case for many many others in my generation ( generation x). I also think the maga extremists know this and are "going in for the kill" now. I say we must unite, all working class Americans. "United we stand, divided we fall". Bernie, I am a Maryland teacher and see first hand childhood poverty. I just turned 59 and am terrified of what could happen to my Social Security and Pension when I do retire at 67. Everything you said is spot on and the rich put their fingers in their ears and close their eyes because they are too greedy to dig into their deep pockets to help another human being. The quality, affordability and availability of food in the US is declining. ~40 million Americans (12.5% total) don't have enough to eat, including ~8 million children, ~783,000 of which are starving. More than half a million Americans are homeless. America is many good things, but has a sick society, primarily because of greed. Began working at 16 years old at Woolworths and worked til I was 65. Now I'm 79 and broke! My SS is only $16,000 a year. Thank God for SNAP. Currently living sickly in a moldy apt and can't afford to move to a higher priced better place. I sent HUD applications to states surrounding mine. Bernie, even to VT and Maine. There are no apts available. 100 people on wait lists, 2/5 years. I'm stuck! Grateful for Medicare & Medicaid. Grateful for wonderful caring statesmen like Bernie Sanders. Thank you sir. ❤
Actually, the wealthy pay most of the taxes in the US. That's simply a fact. They own more wealth, and they pay more taxes.
Social Security retirement payments were never intended to be the sole income of retirees - they have always been intended as a _supplemental_ source of income. Unfortunately, what we see is that 40% of retirees in the US have SS benefits as their only income.
Whose fault is it that poor people have no money left to save for retirement? If you think it's the poor person's fault, I got some lottery tickets and Horatio Alger books for your dumbass to buy.
