I have a love and hate relationship with worbla. I love it because I can get a very interesting texture with it. and it pretty easy to shape it once you get the hang of it. But I also hate it for two reason, one I have to use a heat gun on it. I don't really like using my heat gun. And two, it's kind of hard to get the thickness right. While I do love worbls, I prefer clay over worble. But you made worbla look like an actually sculpture, very nice job.

Keeping it semi warm through the whole process is usually how I believe I make it work. Maybe. It is hard to know what is the magic soup of making it work.
I usually just blast the whole piece with a very very small amount of heat every few minutes just so it is tacky enough to move and stick things to it.
But if you over heat then the entire thing starts to go wonky.
In my nimona video (not posted yet) I accidently let the headphones get hit with to much heat and they never fully recovered the shape I was going for.
Another trick you won't see me show anytime soon on video that I use for really really big projects like cosplay is I have an old toaster oven and I have the heat super low and will keep a few pieces in the oven at a time so they are ready to use when I need them. But use at your own risk because worbla can become a messy goop of hot lava if your not careful.
I also hate hate hate my heat gun 1st heat gun. It is to loud and it requires a long cool down session which is automatic and the only way to make it stop is by unplugging it. Which defeats the purpose of it. So I bought a cheaper one that doesn't heat up as high I think its max is 350 degrees and it does not have a built in cool down procedure that it has to go through. That paired with headphones so I can keep watching movies made me hate it a little less.

@@EnchantedFae I could try out the less heat method whenever I get the chance to use worbla again, if it's alright with you? Don't know about the toaster oven method. My heat gun is a plug in as well, but I'm able to shut it off with a bottom on it so that's good. I just don't like using it in general, but I''ll only use it if I have it. Like using it to remove a doll's head . I find it easier to use a heat gun than a hair dryer for that. But thank you very much. :)

I just bought a super cheap used toaster oven on the marketplace. I placed foil down on the tray to keep the worbla from sticking. But you have to be extremely careful not to overheat it or it will be to hot to handle. I recommend getting heat gloves just for safety.
I get the not wanting to use the heat gun I really don't enjoy it either. I just use hot water to remove heads. I probably will regret it at some point later but I put all my heads back on pre-paint. I have only been doing this about 5 months though so I will likely try different methods to see what I like best but so far just sticking them back on makes me happy. Less cracked paint so far also but I do find if I am not careful the faceup can get damaged. I am trying some new things to help prevent that and if they work I will share. =)

I loved this finished piece and I’m very glad to have read your replies to dragonsnips about how you handle the thermo plastic sheet! I bought an offbrand sheet and haven’t had any luck handling it. But based on your comments it’s a lot like the brand name and I’ve got your handling tips now too! I am very excited to see a Nimona!! I hope you post it!

I have used some off brand of worbla and I think they are pretty similar, I think the off brand feels a little "dryer" but at the same time this works out really well bc it doesn't just melt apart as quick. Just be careful with any of them and use heat gloves. Warm it a little bit at a time until it gets to where you want it. Also never throw out your scraps you can always find uses for them later.

Is that worbla? Is that easier? Better than a clay? Very emotive and clever.

It is worbla. I have an excessive amount of it so I usually use that first if I think it will work. In some aspects it worked better than clay for this project like it was quick to make the folds in the clothing, but a con is it is bulky when building up. I would have to heat up and press the edges really really hard to get it thinned down so it didn't look to bulky. I also liked it for this project because the texture was more rough.

@EnchantedFae perfect for the texture. Really interesting design and gives a nice creep factor while maintaining a beautiful elegant. Looking forward to other projects.

Is there any other kind of materials that I can get besides Worbla? It's expensive.
I want it to have the same effects as Worbla but an alternative version

You can but I started a pinterest board a couple weeks ago which is pretty sparse right now but you can follow it there as well and I will be posting new dolls and projects there in the future. =) Thank you for asking.

Sadly, you don't shrink heads. I find the head to body proportions in MHD to be preposterous and inartistic

I do shrink a lot of heads. Just not this one.
