I once dropped my phone on the NYC subway tracks, and do you want to know what I did? I ran upstairs to the booth operator, told them what happened, and they came out with a pair of those giant pliers they use to pick up trash and retrieved my phone. The moment I got home I disinfected my phone and lived happily ever after.
That's what they tell you to do in NYC because years ago someone jumped down to the tracks to try to retrieve a dropped phone and was killed. That case in Chicago, not the train operator's fault.
I remember when I was in a train in Myanmar and a girl was filming outside the window. She dropped her phone, outside the train. They called the mayor, police, or basically any important old guy of that village and they retrieved the phone, it got to our destination before we did. They had this whole search party of 10+ people looking for this cellphone. My god, I love that country. I wish all the best to all the people of Myanmar and hope to return when it is safe enough to do so.
My husband left his phone on top of the car a few years ago. We got onto the interstate and the phone went flying. I had to yell and curse at my husband to absolutely not pull over and run into traffic to retrieve the phone. I had to asure him that the phone was fully covered. Obviously it wasn’t, at least in the sense that we had to pay a $200 deductible. Idc though because my husband can get a new phone but I definitely could not tolerate another human.
Idk if it was train conductors fault...its not like he was distracted and steered the train into a place it shouldn't have been. That woman shouldn't have been on the tracks. When people lose a loved one, they want to blame anybody but their loved one. It's a natural human reaction.
It seems like he wasn’t paying 100% attention. But probably couldn’t have stopped in time anyways. And he never had any issues in his career of a decade or so.
Yeah I feel the same. He wasn't asleep or off doing something else. He was just waving at someone he passed. He's now lost his livelyhood and still has to deal with the PTSD he probably has from the event- they even said the train wouldn't have been able to stop in time anyway.
First of all, this woman's family named her Felon. Then they sue everyone because their own family member acted a fool and jumped onto the train tracks. She also clearly was taking her sweet time trying to get off of the tracks. But somehow the conductor was supposed to make a whole train dead-stop, the security guards should have risked their lives, the station should have kept her from being stupid, etc. I hope the family won nothing and incurred a bunch of legal bills that are still swallowing them up to this day. Sounds heartless but people like that have helped to create such a cruel and cold world when they sue over everything. Her stupidity caused people severe trauma, a man to lose his job, time/money/stress for the people they sued, three children to grow up without a mother. We all do stupid stuff, and unfortunately her decision got her killed. But her family are POS for suing.
It definitely feels like he got scapegoated. I get that they are supposed to be more alert going into a station because there’s greater risk to safety but it doesn’t sound like there woman was paying much attention to her surroundings either.
That last story makes me really angry. A grown adult decided to do something extremely dangerous and people want to blame everyone else for that. At the end of the day, tragic it is that she died, it was her own fault that she died
I'm really glad UA-cam recommended your channel. I thoroughly enjoy your videos and the way you tell the stories. From Alabama, I hope you and your puppies have a Merry Christmas. 🇨🇦🎄🇺🇸
I remember the outhouse story! When I travelled to America and was using some of the outhouses there when hiking, I purposefully put my bag, loose items, and phone right by the door, well away from the toilet, lol! And the train story is such a sad waste of a life. Here in the UK it's so easy to retrieve a phone lost on train tracks; you simply report it, and a staff member will retrieve it usually within the next few train runs. At the very worst they'd get it at the end of the day/during next maintenance. I imagine the same would have been done here if she'd only asked one of the staff on the platform.
You rock! You make me laugh ❤ I love your channel and the stories that you do, and the extensive research that you put into them. Hugs & Merry Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, Festivus...🎅🎄
The sheer audacity of the people who sued because their loved one was too short sighted to know that crawling down on a freaking train track is a BAD idea. She killed herself with her phone addiction and lack of self awareness. I hope those greedy jerks did not win a single penny
Yikes!!! And more seriously, thanks for putting some vivid imagery out there to reinforce my mental note not to do stupid stuff, whether it involves retrieving a phone or anything else. The line between safe behavior and foolishness is sometimes unclear. The penalties for mistakes can be severe.
Great stories! Falling into the portaloo, must be a worst nightmare🤣 The woman who jumped onto the railway, totally her own fault . Blame the poor train driver, imagine how traumatised he would have been anyway. Hope he is coping ok.

I so love our lovely hostess' dry sense of humour! As for Episode 4, something similar happened to a young woman in British Columbia in the early 2000s. She was accidentally locked out of her apartment, so she decided to climb up from the balcony below. Tragically, she did not survive the ensuing fall.
When I got a new phone about 1 1/2 years ago, I didn't have time to get a case with a loop / grip / whatever before I got on holiday to Iceland. I was extremely weary when holding my phone over an edge where it might fall into if it slipped out of my fingers. But I was careful and it didn't. And afterwards I bought a case with a loop so I could secure it around my body. (I don't use that case a lot - but it is definitely my go-to case for holidays.)

Yes, but if you have your phone set to back up when it's plugged in and connected to a wifi network, then the handset is just a piece of hardware ~ your photos, texts, etc are all in the cloud, easily transferable to another handset. It's insane to risk your life for a phone.

Oh no! I dropped my phone and it landed on the floor. I’m almost 71. Not taking any chances after watching this video. See ya! I’m off to the Apple Store.
I got into a little argument on this topic where the person claimed that ANYONE would risk their life for their phone. I disagreed. My phone isn’t worth losing my life.🙅♀️
Especially considering in almost all these cases, the phones may have been safely retrieved if these people had just requested help from appropriate authorities. Balcony one she coulda just waited for neighbours, train one I know staff will retrieve dropped items off rails if they're told about it, portaloo might've been able to send someone out, and I wouldn't be surprised if they could potentially get the volcano one too dpeending on how location and staff. Even if you can't retrieve it, I'm definitely not risking my life. Absolute worst scenario is you lose some photos/videos, and short 1k (or however much the phone costs), but my life is definitely worth more than 1k lol.
The final video. That woman didn't have to die there were four men stood on the platform right next to her they could have easily pulled her up to safty but instead pointed her towards the ladder towards the train that was coming right for her. Why?
They too were probably worried about being sued. I fell once in a store. There were at least 30 people around me, and the only person who initially tried to help me up was my 2-year-old son. People just walked past me, until a woman who was about 70 came to help. After I got my milk, a man who had been in there was walking out at the same time I was, and he apologized, but said that he'd heard of people getting sued if someone got hurt even if they were just trying to help. Later, I told my mom about what happened and that no one tried to help me. Even before I mentioned what the man had said as we walked out, she said that she thought they were probably worried that they might get sued if I got hurt. I can't remember if they were any Good Samaritan laws in my state at the time, even though I know there are now, but I think it's a shame that people don't help because they feel they might get sued. On a side note, my son was not really happy. As we were standing in line to pay, he punched the guy in front of us in his butt. Yes, that guy had been in the store and standing very close to me when I had fallen. He turned around with his fists raised, and then looked down to see my son with his raised. His friend started laughing and said " you just got your butt kicked by a baby. " He turned back around and just didn't say anything. I don't know if my son was mad because he realized no one had helped me, or if he was just being a 2-year-old. I did try to talk to him as much as you can to a 2-year-old and explained that he can't hit people and that's not the way to fix anything. I've never seen him or heard about him hitting anyone else to this day, so hopefully that will be the only time in his life that he hit somebody.
Hey, did you look into that dude in BC who was lost/not lost for awhile? Just curious if you will cover it? Actually not looking into it in hopes to hear you present it. Thanks for your videos. Love the editing and format and one object/many stories. That was cool af. ❤
I think I survived my my childhood because mobile phones were not invented yet. I grew up on an island off the coast of southwestern Finland and I did plenty of stupid things. These days I don't feel I need to do weird things and document them on my social media.
What a coincidence! I dropped my phone in the snow today (jogging to heat up car while wearing pants with small pockets) and had to wake up my roommate at 6 in the morning to call it and look for it in the frontyard. Immediately found it (it landed with the screen up and lit up), it was dry for some reason even though snow landed back on it after it sunk in. Have had that phone for around 7 years so was super scared when I thought it wouldn't work anymore
Oooo..nice effects! Will your nice mug appear on my phone today? 😂 This was claustrophobic! Great video! Merry Christmas to you and the pups ❤ Gahhhh sewage head 🤮 By the by, I will be tossing my devices in front of a bus, then go swim the sharks on Molokai. So forget the video call. Sorry 😂
Stupid stupid people . I’ll always remember … never ever to try retrieve my phone from volcanoe crater . Thankyou heavens for volcanoe guides . He should have been jailed for a week or so .
Whenever I use an outhouse I am super cautious with my valuables: No car keys or phone in pants pockets or in my hands - it is worth the extra step to put them somewhere completely out of range of the shitter hole. If my phone WERE to fall in - oh well, too bad so sad! It can be replaced and is probably ruined anyway
They all seem to be independent type of person who just got on with their mission of retrieving a list phone. But after this video my phone will be on its own!
@@JohnDoe-tx8lq Really, though? Seems easy enough to foresee that climbing into a volcano after ignoring warning signs, trying to climb to a lower balcony, or jumping down onto active train tracks is risking your life.
I'd agree for the first one; she just reached inside a crack and slipped. That does seem like a genuine accident and an outcome you'd just never imagine happening of a phone slipping into a crack between rocks. But crawling into an open volcano, climbing down a balcony 7 stories up, or jumping onto a train track when you know a train is coming? Those are all very simple risk assessments that many adults would never dream of attempting.
It's not just phones. When I had small children ( they are a bit older now) we had three (!!) incedences, when someone jumped onto the tracks of a subway station to save our stuff. One station can get very windy and the wind blew one of the kids hats onto the tracks. Within seconds a young man jumped down onto the tracks to retrieve it. I told ( actually shouted) not to do it and it wasn't worth the risk for a hat costing next to nothing. A hat! It didn't stop the young man in trying to be a hero. There is a train every 1-5 minutes. Same thing happend two more times with other items. All three times it was a young man in his twenties. Nothing bad happened. All three wouldn't listen to me when I told them not to go on the tracks.
Last year I was in the Yucatan swimming in the cenotes, and a young man thought it would be a brilliant idea to take his phone (in a waterproof case) with him jumping into a cenote to record the jump. He came up panicking because he'd dropped the phone--his girlfriend's phone, not his. The phone was probably about 40 feet deep in the cenote. The amount of yelling and panicking that ensued was kind of funny. They paid a local man, hopefully a LOT of money, to dive down and go get it. The phone survived and was recording the whole time. Maybe the moral of the story is that there is no shot worth risking your phone, your life, or someone else's life. I don't think I'd ever consider putting someone else in harm's way to get my phone I lost out of my own stupidity--those cenotes go quite deep and I am glad the man who dived for the phone was fine.
I live near a train station. Each time a train is approaching, there is a robotic announcement of which train and which track. When it happens, the train arrives in mere seconds. One time a man was focused on his phone when the announcement rang. He got up to be near the track but his phone fell down. He immediately jumped down and got killed. I think it's one of those moments where you just don't think, you just react and unfortunately it wasa deadly reaction.
I retrieved my phone out of a toilet bowl, rip. Always check your pockets! Many years back i dropped my nokia 3310 into a glass of water next to my bed, when the alarm woke me up... it still worked well, but only in silent mode.
I left my phone in a friends car yesterday. I didn’t have her number. I drove to her house the next day and picked it up. Stressful, but not life threatening.
I once dropped my phone on the NYC subway tracks, and do you want to know what I did? I got into a little argument on this topic where the person claimed that ANYONE would risk their life for their phone. I disagreed. My phone isn’t worth losing my life.🙅♀️
Nope. That is truly extreme materialism. Sad
That person is quite wrong.
I think I’ve taken three “selfies” in my entire life and I’m almost 60 😂😂😂
The Mt Vesuvius story is the kind of thing that gives American tourists a bad name. Honestly, who ignores warning signs at a volcano?
I love your show! I hope you had a merry Christmas and have a very happy new year.
Thank you, and the same to you!
If I ever drop my phone in an outdoor biffy I’ll be like “Oh hey new phone day for me yay.” 😅🤮
Saaaaame!
Thank you 😊 This was the best video to start my day! Looking forward to more great content in 2025, give your pups Christmas treats for me!
You are very welcome! Merry Christmas to you too!
I like that the subs for this channel don’t freak out over outhouses… even on other hiking channels there’s prisses losing their minds lol
I agree! The coolest subscribers are here for sure.
The smiles on the faces of the SAR guys who pulled the gal out of the shitter 😂
Haha so true!!
The final video. That woman didn't have to die there were four men stood on the platform right next to her they could have easily pulled her up to safty but instead pointed her towards the ladder towards the train that was coming right for her. Why?
Agreed. I'm also confused as to why she didn't hoist herself up. What a sad and avoidable tragedy.
I wonder the same thing, but it probably happened so fast once they all realised the train was coming.
"Head first into the crapper". Snort! Good job I was between slurps of tea! My phone went down the toilet, but a normal one....
Haaaaa
Hey, did you look into that dude in BC who was lost/not lost for awhile? Just curious if you will cover it?
Actually not looking into it in hopes to hear you present it.
Thanks for your videos. Love the editing and format and one object/many stories. That was cool af. ❤
The 20yo who spent 5 weeks lost? I’ve thought about that one. Maybe!
@ yeah! That one. Please do consider it 🙏🏼🫶🏻
I think I survived my my childhood because mobile phones were not invented yet. I grew up on an island off the coast of southwestern Finland and I did plenty of stupid things. These days I don't feel I need to do weird things and document them on my social media.
Just remember always that your rescuers are putting their own lives at risk for yours!
Have a good night everyone!
Episode 2 would've been my nightmare! 😱
for episode 5 that poor woman's tragedies began the moment she was named FELON!!!
LOL, I thought her name was Fallon.
That's because snow isn't wet....
Oooo..nice effects! Will your nice mug appear on my phone today? 😂
This was claustrophobic!
Great video!
Merry Christmas to you and the pups ❤
Gahhhh sewage head 🤮
By the by, I will be tossing my devices in front of a bus, then go swim the sharks on Molokai.
I was 3:00 in by the time I even noticed you’d swapped rooms 😂
They all seem to be independent type of person who just got on with their mission of retrieving a list phone. But after this video my phone will be on its own!
"No phone is worth risking your life for" - trouble is, at the time you don't think you ARE risking your life. 🤔
So true!
I don't know if people were always that dumb, or if they've become dumber those past years, but it is definitely not going the right way.
Yikes #2 is scary and constantly thought about when I use a port a potty. I wouldve just left it tho
I was expecting the last story to be from NYC not Chicago. And yes if the train doesn’t get you the third rail may
I care about my things more than I do about most people. Totally understandable.
Once your phone falls into an outhouse hole, do you really want it back? No way, no how!
I NEVER bring my phone into my outhouse for this very reason!
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. It’s hard to choose but #2 was the worst. Don’t know if you could ever feel clean again.
I think the one where the person died was the worst.
I retrieved my phone out of a toilet bowl, rip. Always check your pockets! Many years back i dropped my nokia 3310 into a glass of water next to my bed, when the alarm woke me up... it still worked well, but only in silent mode.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS,BEST WISHES
I left my phone in a friends car yesterday. I didn’t have her number. I drove to her house the next day and picked it up. Stressful, but not life threatening.
