So I have two tips for you. 1) instead of mixing all your ingredients in the bowl and then ladling them in, just add equal portions to the jars and then shake the jars to mix. That way you won’t accidentally have hardly any meat in one jar and lots in another. 2) just ladle in your stock with a ladle and the canning funnel. Two ladlefuls will fill those jars you’re using, so the time it takes it better than losing half your stock to the counter.
How lovely, nearly an hour spent with you canning. I don't eat meat but enjoyed the learning process especially as you are using a pressure cooker. Totally with you on wanting to prepare lunch for your other half, I do this too down to leaving out cutlery and plate and chopping board if anything fresh needs to prepared. I just like to. It's great to see the filled jars stacking up. x
Aw thank you! I was worried the video was too long!😅 I like to prep lunch, G usually cooks dinner because he loves to cook. In this house we argue over who GETS to cook rather than who has to cook!😁 I'll have a look for a few veggie recipes! The butternut squash soup is delicious and veggie! 😋 Thank you for watching 🩷
Ohh both really good ideas! I would probably accidentally use it for watering plants though..m or end up watering plants with vegetable stock... Never known might end up being the best soil amendment!🤣 Thank you for watching! 🩷
Great video. I love how much easier your curry looks compared to the one I have done. For the beef stew I do the beef, onion, potato and peas in one and diced carrot and swede in another (it turns into a mash) Together they make a decent portion evening meal.
Ohh that's a good idea! The curry is adapted from a recipe I normally cook, but without the tomatoes. It was pretty nice, tasted more like a Thai curry with a little less spice (which is good for me!😅). Sounds like your beef stew is good!😁 Thanks for watching!🩷🩷
YAY!!! I have been waiting impatiently for this! LOL ROFL I feel your pain on space to put things. Small house living 'sigh' its a thing... I have never done long term canning ever. I remember doing some with my Gram a billion years ago but the only canning I have done myself has been like refrigerator pickles lol not really canning I guess then. But this was super interesting! Thank you for sharing!
Aw thank you! So glad you like it and apologies it took a bit longer to finish, it was a LONG one!! 😁 We have jars stored in all sorts of spaces, we're also in a fairly new-ish build house (90s) and they just didn't build these with storage in mind at all. Our new house we are moving to is 1950s so it has all sorts of cubby holes for storage!😁 Thank you for watching! 🩷
Re stock find a sharper spout jug modern pyrex are useless for pouring! Did the recipe canning times say the same for the mixed meal canning? Re lids and sealing keep them as far away from the filling zone, the chicken curry ones I believe it was , when you added stock and it spilt over the lids you should have recleaned them. The one that didn't seal possible that a bit herbage got between the lid and jar during canning. DO NOT get a presto electric canner, they are for US voltage and amperage unless you can have a dedicated transformer, Presto are not honouring the warranty unless a correct transformer is used. I also have the instant pot in my wishlist, hopping for a good black Friday deal
Amazing! Thank you for the tips!!🩷 The recipes I used all said 75 minutes for the meals. I feel like that might have been quite a long time but they all worked and tasted great (minus the beef stew that didn't seal!). I didn't notice I'd spilled a bit. That will be why!! I am definitely thinking of getting an instant pot, probably January sales for us as we're moving end of January I hope, but I've also been looking at an electric autoclave, they are basically the same thing. A bit of a rebel canner here! I didn't know about Preston not honouring the warranty though! That's cheeky!! Thank you for watching! 🩷
😧 that's so bad of them! How can they get away with that?! There's definitely a market for a UK electric canner, if I had the time or knowledge I'd make one and sell it!😅

I use scissors to cut meat . Works good. Also you could use small watering container to help with your spilling of broth. Of course only for cooking.

@@BackToTheGoodLife lovejars have stopped selling them because of it they make and sell it for the UK with correct plug but not the voltage regulator
