  • this is why and how all my Contigo cups end up with mold in them. I also show you how I try to clean them as best I can. Great cup but over time they get mold inside where you can not clean. I would stay away from this cup unless you only need to use it a few times..

I took my bottle apart & found thick black mold throughout the top, figured that must be why I have a nasty throat infection!

Thank you for this video demonstration! I came to discover how to reassemble as we just got some new ones. I'll now be especially mindful of airing out and paying attention to the mouthpiece!!

I had the same thing, had to throw it away because everything can be cleaned and I did exactly the same as you, but the top spout can't be removed and it is exactly there where I found the most mold. Only way is breaking it up, I even got to unassemble more than you did, the spout is divided in two pieces, the bottom can actually be removed but top not. It is attached to the plastic piece. Better look for another type of bottle, I do not recommend this, I was wondering why my daughter got so many allergies lately... well one less reason is on the map.

Might be a bit late but u can try another Contigo bottle. It's the Contigo Jackson bottle (I think) and it doesn't have a straw. I have one and when I first got it I bragged to all my friends. I thought it was cool. U should check it out 😉

Thanks for the video. Won't be getting these types of cups.

Still same problem for all Contigo Ashland cups. It’s never been addressed or changed. It’s now Jan of 2023. I just found this nasty 🤢 stuff in my son’s cup. The cups are now in the $12-$20 range. Still throw away cups. There needs to be a better design developed for all these young Adult ASD kids.

technically, the ones that you think are 'broken' aren't really broken, you can take the plastic part of the spout apart and put it back together to the way it was

You can buy straw cleaners at any store that sells a bottle brush. You're supposed to use one at every wash.

I only use mine for water when working out and drinking through the day. Thought I was doing a great job keeping it clean, until I saw black spots one night before a workout class. Tore mine apart and ended up throwing out.

I have black mold in my large Contigo water bottle. It is to the point that I no longer think they are worth it. It is stuck under the thin rubber clear part under the lid and I don't think it comes apart.

Same with the Contigo 24 stainless steel water bottles and the parts in the auto seal lid but I just bleach it out and ri nse it good hopefully it's all clean no way to take it apart but you can definitely see the difference after bleaching it. I think it only molds when my son let's it sit with liquid in his it and doesn't let it air out to dry well. But it doesn't have a straw and tubes in it. No wonder people get so sick these reusable bottles need better access to the parts to access them. Especially the bottles our kids need to use to carry to school to drink water out of.

The spout piece you can actual take it apart as well, I did that for mine and it was gross inside as well. If you are able to take them apart and clean it, would be even better!

@@Ricks_Tech_Talk I took it apart and put them back together, it was working perfectly. Just need to remember which side of the spout you took off and put them back properly. And inside the spout was really yucky when I took them apart.

Thank you for sharing this! All can be save!!! Thank your the tip of using the knife to get the spout apart! I have been using my barehands!
Its been awhile and I'm not sure if you know by now.....but you can pry the autospout mechanism apart to clean, and also the other part that is stuck on your lid. Pry the bottom to get an easy pull out from the top. It will be bit of work to put it back together
also, don't forget about the air valve! the rubber bit is removable and just snap back on!

These things are crap! I just took it apart. Black mold Texas T. Remove the mouthpiece with a knife like in the video. shove a good quality chopstick down between the rubber part and plastic part this will start to separate the hard plastic. Use the butter knife to crack the plastic apart. the plastic is held by a clip on each side. This can be done without breaking the mouth piece.

I had the same issue with mold in sippy cups. Cleaning them and then putting them in boiling water may help.

Are people only getting mould in these when they don't use them only for water? I only use water in it for my toddler and mine doesn't appear to have mould in it???

@@Ricks_Tech_Talk thanks again for the Thermos suggestion. I have bought a "Frozen" one and my daughter loves it! I find the water comes out better too than the Contigo - she used to cough and splutter taking her first sip from the Contigo. This Thermos one is a game changer! My husband and I THANK YOU!

They sell the brushes for this purpose at Wal-Mart. Where all the contigo products are 3 round brushes, one for the cup one for the straw and one for the spout for 8 dls.

I have the snack and drink bottle and found mold when i was pulling hard on the spout. I say most of their bottles have flaw design and since you can't clean the parts that can't be removed, its going to grow mold. I removed the drinking spout with a flat screw driver but that also broke it in the process.

HiThere The newer models likely have a releasable straw so you can clean the inside of it but it’s only the newer one sadly just letting you know for your knowledge

They collect mold under the straw tether too where its attached to the lid. The only way to get that out is to actually cut the tether and pry it off the lid. We did it to a bunch of cups and they all had mold under there too.

Again the water here is recycled, what goes down my drain and toilet is all reused. But I understand the concern and admit it could have been turned off a few times.
Nuevamente, el agua aquí se recicla, lo que se va por el desagüe y el inodoro se reutiliza. Pero entiendo la preocupación y admito que podría haberse apagado algunas veces.
