That snare and high hat came in nice and clear. Oh wait, this is a bass guitar video! That sounded great too. The difference between the pickups wasn't huge. I listened with out watching the screen.
Great demo and nice tight playing. helped me make up my mind: I'll go for the Lindy's - seem very well balanced - the Lollar is a little wilder and I love the deep end of the low notes... Arigatou gozaimasu - Thank You for sharing and keep it groovy!
Lollar has all that great mid range to it. Its a more defining sound... It's like I can hear the wood and tone and finger work. I'd imagine is a little more transcribable too in a heavy mix. The Fralin just feels like a typical "bass" sound... I just hear "a bass." If I want to cut a record and have the bass sound like someone virtuosic might be behind it, my ears would want to hear that Lollar for sure.
It depends how loud the music is that you're playing. I think that each pickup sounds unique. I think that if you were to add a bunch of loud guitars over it, the upper-mid on the Fralins would pop out more than the more balanced midrange on the Lollars, which could get lost in the mess. They'd both sound good, but the Fralins would have a more specific P-Bass sound with loud guitars.
What a great comparison, thank you! I really like the Fralin sound. These are available in -5%, stock, +5%, and +10%. Do you know which ones you're using in this demo? Thanks!
Depends on the bass and how loud and bright the wood sounds.. but I’d say the Lollars sound more open and less compressed. Great clarity. Best for most basses. Fralins if you need to smooth out and warm up or “vintage up” a bass.
@@18JR78 i really hope you're joking about that, because Wood is THE only thing that matters, if the bass has a high resonance then the pickup will reproduce that tone cleaner than say a bass with a darker muddier tone unpluged.
Damn! After many years of avoiding P basses I'm building my first one soon and I was pretty much set on the Fralins but I may be swerved onto the Lollars. I actually think that the Fralin is the "better" pickup for tightness and clarity but the Lollars give a bit more breadth in their sound and I get the impression that if you were really nasty to the strings, they'd give quite an expressive sound/sounds. Thanks for doing this video, it's very helpful
Came across this comparison at the right time. I'm thinking of Lollars or Dominger p bass pickups for my bass. Think the Lollars might go in this time.
Thanks for the comparison. Nice playing too! They both sound good but it’s gonna be the Lindys for me. They have more presence at least to my ear. Are these Lindy Fralins over wound by chance?
@@naototada Weirdly I didn't get a notification on your response. I envy you lol. it is such a nice combo. I just bought a 70's Yamaha pulser which a copy of your bass. The body resonates so well unplugged so its about treating it with a nice set of pickups. Always been a fan of your playing bro. Love from UK. arigato gozaimasu
Great video, thank you. This is the comparison I needed. In this video I really prefer the Lindy. On the other hand, in many other videos and soundfiles I prefer the Lollar. So probably the amps, the players, the wood...? For me it's most important, the pickup is clear and dynamic. I like to form the sound with my fingers. Which one would you recommend?
As you say, if you value the natural bass material and the sound of the player, then Lindy is the one for you. However, I personally feel Lindy's output is low. That's why I like 10% overwound!
Man; excellent comparison and playing. That extra growl of the Lollar makes me think of the denser ash early 70’s era, whereas the gentler attack of the Fralin has me thinking of the early- to mid-60’s P’s I’ve had the pleasure of playing. Cheers.
I won't be buying the p-bass split pickup, but it sounds to me like the Fralin is better. They have better definition across all frequencies and respond better to the playing technique.
The Lollar sounds very similar to the CS ‘59 pickup in the Mike Dirnt sig bass . Fantastic pickup
IMO the Fralin P-Bass pickup is the clearest-sounding pickup out there. I personally love the warn fatness that the Lollar pickup has.
That snare and high hat came in nice and clear. Oh wait, this is a bass guitar video! That sounded great too.
The difference between the pickups wasn't huge.
I listened with out watching the screen.
Thank you for your nice comments! I am glad
I was NOT expecting to hear that Tatsuro Yamashita bassline. Wow those Lindy Fralins sounded amazing for *that* sound. Wonderful video thank you
I am the one who should thank you
Great pickup comparison demo. Really nice playing! Fralin for me.
Both are incredible sounding pickups 👍

I'm happy to help you!
"Douitashimashite"
Lollars definitely have the articulation, but I prefer the woolly sounding Fralins. Both super cool.
The Fralin pickup sounds fantastic, the Lollar sounds very good too. Pick Drive Sound needed a Dimarzio Model P.
Thanks for taking the time to make this comparison. Loved the riffage too, great playing
I am the one who should thank you

Wow, talk about Splitting Hairs..
Nice! I have Lollars on my P Bass too and they sound amazing!
Thanks!!
What a great comparison, thank you! I really like the Fralin sound. These are available in -5%, stock, +5%, and +10%. Do you know which ones you're using in this demo? Thanks!
Thanks!!I used stock for this demo. However, I personally would prefer +5% for the lindy, since I have aligned the volume in the DAW!

I agree!!
Bass wood does not matter when you're using electricity.

can't decide, both sound great tho they're pretty different
Lollars. I have them in all my P Basses 🏆

Seems the Lollar is a bit grittier in the lows and I like that added character and detail . But they do sound very close.
Yes, that's right! You look amazing
Lollar for the win! I’m a 85% of the time pick player. If you can’t tell the difference invest in a decent set of headphones. Mids and mids!
thank you for this comparison ! i’m going for Fralin’s, I think they have a more even and consistent sound
Thank you, that's right!
How weird and subjective is the sound according to the listener. I think totally the opposite! 😆
This was awesome I liked both
You cleared up if fralin a have a vintage tone for me
Question are the fralin 5% wound ?
Fralin is normal. Since the output was a little small, it is aligned with the volume.
Thanks for the comparison. Nice playing too! They both sound good but it’s gonna be the Lindys for me. They have more presence at least to my ear. Are these Lindy Fralins over wound by chance?
Thanks!
Lindy is very good, and the sound of the wood of the bass is output as it is. And very vintage tone. I don't know the overwound
Very good video, congratulations!
What is the exact model of this pickup and configuration to buy it, please?
Loller (Standard)&Lindy(Normal)
thank you very much!👏🏾
No Contest. Lollar has the note definition, especially on the E string.
interesting comparsion. i feel maybe the lollar suits the ash, maple combo. I would love to know why you replaced the original 70's pick ups.
The original one didn't come with it when I first bought it, so I found loller when I was looking for a replacement.

This is the sound I’ve been looking for. Also, what kind of strings are you using? Awesome playing and great setup! 👌🙏
Thank you very much!Strings are R.cocco Nickel
Sounds great!
I like both , is there a way to combine them ?
I think both are good too!
Yes, get an FGN Mighty Power Bass and just add both :-)
I won't be buying the p-bass split pickup, but it sounds to me like the Fralin is better. They have better definition across all frequencies and respond better to the playing technique.
Thanks for your comment. There seems to be a reason why Fralin has been a champion for many years!
Pot 250K?? or 500K ?? Very nice sound and review.
Thanks 250K
Are the lollar pickups you used the standard ones or overwound?
is a normal model

Did you over or under wine or stock for the Fralins?
This is stock normal. but i prefer overwound

Lollar not Loller 😊 … anyway Lollar for me ..
I was wrong the whole time!

Close call but LOLLAR.
Fralins won the competition when you got to slap.
Klein Epics
Fralin sounds obviously much more bougie...

Fralins rule, Lollars drool.
Lollar sounds more scooped 🤟🏾🤟🏾🤟🏾🤟🏾
lol. They have so many mids in them, they’re the opposite of scooped.
