      As far as 142 I know a 260 does not struggle with overall length your mag gives you 2.75”
      The problem comes from barrel twist to go to a 150 you need a 1-7.5
      In the standard barrel twist I seen is 1-8 some 7.5 but mostly 1-8

    I built a 6.5 Grendel years ago and love this cartridge! It’s ballistically superior to 5.56/223 in every way except velocity.
    The 6.5 CM however doesn’t have all these gains over 308. While it’s a very effective caliber and reaches out well past 1,000 yards with less drop/wind drift, however the average shooter can’t shoot past 300 and will buy it to become an “expert”.
    My son is a recent convert with the Browning X bolt, Nikon Monarch 7, that has never been shot past 200 yards! This is $2,500 worth of scope/rifle combo that will collect dust and I’m soooo jealous!

    I was looking to buy a new rifle two years ago, was eyeballing a .308 but a buddy of mine who was army SF talked me into getting a 6.5cm
    I was zeroing in, got to where I was semi happy with where it was hitting, then shot a 3 shot group to see where the money was. At 200 yards I zeroed, when I went to inspect my target I was upset because I only saw one hole in my target and immediately assumed I missed with 2 of 3 shots. Closer inspection revealed that all 3 shots went through the same hole with the slightest evidence of multiple rounds giving the hole those "mickey mouse ears", if you know what I'm talking about. I backed off another 200 yards, did the exact same thing at 400.
    I've never owned a rifle where I've been able to place rounds like that before. It instantly became my favorite rifle in my collection. It's like the dang thing was made for me. The company claims that at 1 mile, that rifle will shoot a 15" group. I haven't tried yet but I kind of believe that it's possible simply from what I've done with it seemingly without even trying. The barrel life thing is the only part I'm not happy about, maybe someday metallurgy will be figured out that can remedy that weakness.

    The 0.264" bullets have high BC bullets compared to other popular calibers. The 0.257" however seem to have more hunting options. I do not own a .264" caliber rifle but I am seriously considering the Remington 260. It has more case capacity than the Creedmoor and I can find components to make the cartridge a lot easier. The Creedmoor does a better job of keeping the bullets off the lands prior to dropping the hammer and thus gives a more consistent pressure.

    It would be interesting to see what the minimum projectile weight and minimum penetration depth (12" FBI minimum recommendation??) needs to be for the 2100+ FPS hydrostatic effect to still be effective at distant (lethal) tearing of soft tissue. I have been shooting 6.5 Creed since there was only one cartridge available. And it is very barrel sensitive once you start pushing it hard. My 26 inch barrel pushes the 147gr. Custom loaded at 2805fps. Lop 2 inches off and you're lucky to push 2600 with that weight. The Thompson 30 is the parent cartridge not the .308. The .260 problem is you can't let the bullets out long enough and still fit mag length thus shorting you on powder. It will come up short on velocity vs. 6.5. Barrel life is relevant to velocity and will only wear fast if running the lighter bullets at 2850 plus. I now have 5275 rnds through my 6.5 and it has just now opened up to an inch. The .308 is irrelevant at this time and the .260rem is great when custom throated and single loaded.

    Im almost positive the limitations on the 260 are in the bullet weights you can run, and still gain a velocity advantage over the creedmoor. It's due to the way the throat of the chamber is cut. It's why I went with a 6.5 prc, and not the 260 rem. Just what I learned from a little research before I purchased. My 6.5x55 swede does what the creed wants to.

    • @CRSFirearms
      @CRSFirearms 3 роки тому +1

      The limitation is barrel twist
      You max out at 140ish on a 1-8 yes you could most definitely go with more aggressive barrel twist but then you’re sacrificing barrel life even more
      For 6.5 140-150 it’s about all she wrote

    So the 260 Rem is superior even though it cannot shoot the heavier 6.5mm bullets (without exceeding short action COL or seating the bullet way back the case), but the 6.5 Creedmoor doesn't measure up to the .308 Win because it's 147-grain bullets fall [imperceptibly] below your 150-grain minimum standard for long-distance shooting. Got it!
    You are sure working hard not to like the 6.5 Creedmoor...

  • @colonelangus8247
    @colonelangus8247 3 роки тому +2

    Sure it's desirable but you give too much up in the now, this being the winter of our discontent the now is rather important. There's not much in the way of picking up bullitz so if you are getting a new gat I would strongly suggest it be in a caliber that you can cast. This rules out bullitz going faster than 2200 feet per second even if you powder coat them because of extreme leading and worse. What you still can get are 12 gauge birdshot even at walmart and each shell contains enough lead and powder for several low velocity heavy bullitz like 44 magnum or suchlike which out of a levergat isn't bad. Now careful reloading and casting because you could get kilt dead or worse.

    How is a Creedmoor burning out a barrel in 1/3 the time as .308 when they are moving along at about the same rate? How is Creedmoor going to best a .308 in energy when the Creedmoor starts to even it out? The .308 hits harder within 500 yards. I have both. Your claims to which works better up close makes no sense to me as a hunter. At closer ranges the heavier bullets win. Good luck finding .260.

      You have to look at the time of flight for the bullets. At a thousand yards it takes a whole second for the bullets to reach the target. One step forward or to the side and the animal is missed or gut shot. Then there is the wind, temperature, shooting position.........

      Unless you are using a cannon the energy left in the bullet is insufficient. Look at the energy the bullet has left at long range. Would you hunt a deer with a subsonic full metal jacket bullet? Yes, you can kill a animal with a .22 short. Should you? That shot from the 14 year old is just there to sell rifles. You don't see the times they missed or wounded a animal. Any match shooter will take practice shots to be sure he is on target at long range. You don't get that in the field. That's my opinion based on 40 years of hunting, and hand loading ammunition, and teaching people how to shoot accurately. 99% of the game that is harvested is taken at less than 100 yards. Know your limitations.
