Hey Scott, this was a great blog and I agree with you, Kate Spade has stepped it up a few notches. I’ve got 2 of their flap quilted Nathalie bags. The chain is too heavy on the larger one. so I’m going to gift it to my family. I do find the bags have a bit more class now and more stylish for sure. Well, I never left high school so I’m still living in 2015. I think it’s going to take time to process that Kate Spade is no longer just pink heart purses. It’s a lot of change for those of us still living in the past. Definitely going to need to process. 🙏

I don't know if this is going to get me fried, but let me cook. I don't like (specifically) Kate Spade's move towards gender neutrality- aka more masculanized bags. There are already enough brands that do that - Coach (my beloved) is one such brand that already has that covered. I miss when you could go to mid range and luxury brands for a specific aesthetic point of view. When Kate Spade arrived on the scene she was known for giving you whimsical re-imagined 1950's bougie housewife (or aspiring housewife) aesthetic. That was the brand. Nostalgic femininity. I knew if I wanted something super girly, there weren't a lot of places that I could go, but Kate Spade was one of them. Now that she is gone, the character has been taken out of the brand more and more every year. Sometimes I wonder if it's Kate Spade or New York and Company, because it is often given office attire (but I think I'm fun). Thank goodness for the outlet, because they have still retained a sense of whimsy, because they are not completely turning away from the demographic that put them on the map- who now, may be a bit fashion house-less.

They are not my fave mid-tier brand but I have a few nice pieces from them. I really like this coated canvas tote I got from their retail line. Their canvas is made by the Italian luxury textile firm Limonta and the quality is excellent. I have a couple pebbled leather pieces from the outlet that are very cute. While KS is not my numero uno go-to, I do check them out from time to time.
I love waiting for bag charms and cute accessories to go onsale! 😍 They got some great gems time to time and its worth checking in every now and again 👜🖤
Well i agree Kate spade before was a bag i didn't even notice or was interesting and cute, but not my style. I love the shiny leather on the Sam icon mini hobo. I bought that bag when it 1st came out and it's the first kate bag I've owned that i love. I've bought 3 others prior to this one, returned 2 and rarely use the 3rd one, such a shame. Oh well. At least i love and get good use out of the sam icon top handle. I do wish the handle drop was a tiny bit longer. Its small but great for just the essential to run an errand real fast, or to go to dinner or lunch as being small it can sit on the table top to the side so no worries with hanging bags on the chairs or it ending up on the floor, bleh.

I actually had to re-watch this to make sure I included what you’re talking about. Mostly this was a retrospective of my past video that still gets views and comments. I also mentioned in this video that the quality changed, Coach bought the brand, and that they levelled out some of the hyper femininity. I even showed the beautiful lamb leather on the quilted Kate Spade Softwhere Tote that I own. Hopefully that clears some air 🖤

I guess I was just hoping for a deeper dive, but as I'm enjoying unearthing your entire "catalogue" of fab videos, I'm seeing that a lot of my questions (about all sorts of topics) are to be answered by watching them ALL! By the time I finish watching everything you've ever posted, I'll be far more well-versed! For now, I'm just about to re-watch the past Kate video that you referred to, as a refresher. And yeah, I def DON'T miss the years of mega bows and hyper-fem cutesy stuff...I actually prefer her very early minimalistic stuff that originally got her into Barney's, straight from her kitchen floor...she originally cut simple shapes out of construction paper for those very first samples and they sold like hotcakes in her first few runs. I have a few from back in the day that still stop people in their tracks when I'm out and about wearing 'em!

I never liked kate spade bags. The styles look like a joke, they look cheap. It seems that the styles were designed for little girls. The leather felt cheap, the other materials/details on the bag look cheap, the smell on the leathers were awful. I stopped looking at their website a long time ago because i can’t find classic pieces, classy designs, or sophisticated-looking bags. Its mostly colored, mostly printed or mostly with different insects or flowers or cocktails as their motif/design. It’s just.. too much for me, i think. Like im no grade 2 student no more. Although i saw a kate spade ad featuring dakota shoulder bag and i must say that for the first time ever they finally made a decent classic design bag. So i went ahead and looked at the website to find more details of this dakota bag and as soon as i saw the twill lining of the bag i knew in myself that i still wont get it. I think this bag would be better with an italian leather and probably a napa leather for the lining. But this dakota bag is still really an improvement from the brand, i must say.
