Shannon Jae: My wife died some years ago - she drank herself to death - driven by all the torments she couldn't put aside. I can only guess at how you came up with this song, but you told our story as if you were there. Thank you. I will follow you always, hoping that one day I can say this face-to-face.
My poor sister , i can not look at your face in the video wo crying. I try just listening to the song and I still couldn’t do it. You’re so strong when you sing this song. Deep breaths is what it takes. THANK YOU for sharing this with us
This is one of those songs. I sat here and listened, mostly with my eyes closed, and thought back over the last 40 years. Of everything I've seen, of all those I've lost in a myriad of ways, of the pain (that I've endured and caused), of all the times I've tempted fate and thought of times I wanted to end it all. And damn did my eyes start leaking. But its songs like these that remind me that I'm not alone in the pain I carry. We're not alone. There are folks out there that know and understand. And it gives me hope
I just lost my best friend to cancer on my 30th birthday. He was 30 as well. He was a liar, a heroin addict, a thief, and a son of a bitch. He also knew more pain than anyone else I knew, and I loved him since when we were just kids. He was always in and out of jail. My dad took him under his wing secretly for years trying to help him get sober, he would steal from my parents and run back to the junk. I always knew his life would end early. I know it couldn't last. But at the same time, it ain't right, all that he saw in this poor life. And I used to be able to count my dead friend just on my hands, in the last ten years I've run out of fingers and toes. I'm 30.
We’re lucky that she would share such a heartbreaking song with us. Shannon is incredible. If y’all are just discovering her y’all should check out her stuff with Spitshine and Teardrop Trio.
Hands down, two of the most talented women in the folk music scene today. I am so full of love and admiration for both Shannon and Ashley. Someday I'd like to be a gal as gifted as them. Til then, I'll be drinking off a bottle of whiskey and breaking the replay button on this song.
Woke up at 4 bout hatin life ready to call in and call it quits. Found this and now i can face this day. ..you saved my job and my soul today...THANK U
When I see young people making music like this it gives me hope that the craft will not be lost to ever more soulless pop and auto tune singers with no heart or talent bombarding us from every FM channel around the world.
@Von Letterman it's a truth that not many can handle though. When you find something that's just real, you see the fallacy in everything else that's pretending to be what it's not

I’m always amazed at these artists such as LDSB and Shannon who can put their heart and souls into this music and write such deep and amazing songs that really it at the most raw of emotions. Thank you. Thank you for sharing even your darkest emotions with the world who h can’t always be easy.
I think it's her beautiful soul, pouring out all her emotion, right out those eyes, fingertips and lips. youd have to be blind not to see it, but even then you would hear it.
How are these friends all so talented? If i had to contain in my body all the melancholy and loss and confusion in these songs, i think id split apart.
There's this movie I think called crazy heart about an alcoholic country singer. Anyways he's playing this song for a girl he stays with when he's in her area and asks if she knows it, she says she remembers and asked what the name is. He says he just wrote it, but that's how it is with the good ones, you always think you've heard them before
This song is what you need to hear when something terrible happened to you which you can't put in a positive frame and just have to take it. It's that someone who tells you simply that it ain't fair because most people will tell you that it's "not so bad" because they think that will help you deal with it. Thanks Shannon for those very empathic lyrics and beautiful song. Shannon and Lost Dog Street Band Fan from Germany.

And I know you’ve been thinking about your days gone by
Sitting by the river drinking a jug of wine
And I know it aint right
Yes I know it aint right
All the things that you’ve seen in this here life
And oh honey babe don’t you face your head alone
I’ve been begging you like a dog Won't you throw me a bone
And I know it aint right
Yes I know it aint right
All the things that you’ve seen in this here life
You turn your head slowly as if you don’t see me
Your eyes blink knowingly as you take up your drink
And I know it aint right
Yes I know it aint right
All the things that you’ve seen in this here life
I tug at your hair with your head hung low
Open your mouth how can this be so?
And I know it aint right
Yes I know it aint right
All the things that you’ve seen in this here life
As bad as you been you know I still love you
You’re my oldest friend I hate to see you so blue
And I know it aint right
Yes I know it aint right
All the things that you’ve seen in this here life
I don’t have the answers and I’m sorry dear
As far as I’m concerned there is only one way out of here
But you know that aint right
Yes you know that aint right
It’s best to leave those thoughts alone and kiss me goodnight
