Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
There it is black & white, our spirit is extremely important. Our spirit needs to rule our lives, not our souls (our flesh).

Amen, fasting is definitely a form of worship leading to significant growth/maturity of one's spirit.
