Total war did good with volleys of arrows. I believe having homing arrows is to help this. Volleys hit any target they land on. this has never been the case with AOE. Instead you can hit many units around the primary target and no damage is done. Imagine 40 arrows flying in the air at you, you gonna dodge? No... they going to hit all over and around you. Eventually. Dodging arrows is an aoe thing, Real life, when 10,000 arches fire, you are screwed lol Armor and shields is what people use IRL to defeat archers. Archers are only good vs light armor. It even says +bonus damage vs light armor.
On this topic I saw a villager get sniped INSIDE a tower. The enemy had fired off an arrow a moment before the villager entered the tower, then we watched the tower garrison go from 4/5 to 3/5. Total wack. I really hope that wasn't intended, even with the 100% accuracy

I am really looking forward to trying out this game, especially the Mongols. I really wasn't expecting the Mangudai to be that potent though... Maybe they need to be, as it seems like the Mongols are not only hopelessly exposed defensively but also seem to have difficulty against strong defenses, especially on closed maps.
AoE4 is fun. I played the beat a bit and i enjoyed it. Mongols can move all their buildings. the obo ( or however it's spelled) is important . mongols can produce 2 units at the same whith a building next to it. happy that you enjoy the game. The khan ( the mongol scout ) can buff their units as well- I would play either defensive wit outposts or outpost rush the obo

There is 100% accuraccy all the time, once enemy shoot, you can't run it from arrows at least. Also what i noticed in previous betas - try to put more villages when progressing to next age, i was using like up to 6 for feudal, up to 10 to castle and up to 20 for imperial. 3 is kind of slow really.
I think you needed more walls and towers, mangudai aren't that strong, they're just really hard to catch, so you gotta make it more difficult for them to get to you (walls) and force them to take some dmg (towers). Archers can work ok as a counter too but you needed more. Also he chose a landmark that heals his units if they're within range, and because he's nomadic he was able to pack it up and move it right next to your base, so that's why he was able to win the last battle.
I'm curious about the balance too! However, it is only the mongol cav archers who work this way. I'm thinking archers and longbow would be a good counter.
Archers can't kill buildings well. You should have put outposts down and put 5 archers in each, then mangudai would not have been able to hurt them... If you put an outpost by your hunting zone, you can put 5 villagers in them and they will fire arrows too.
AOE 2 DE has a lot of microing: queing vills, dodging arrows, ground attacks with mangonels. piece of trash game like SC2. Forgotten empires is some atrocious deadbody waiting to be doused with gas and lit on fire. Its sad that I have to write this, but this was a sarcastic comment. No need to hate.
Game was moderately fun. But it's too much like aoe3. If you like that you'll like 4. But if you don't like 3 u probably won't like 4. I didn't like 3 and I don't like 4. Probably not gonna play it ever again after 3-4 games in the test period.
i mean, it this game looks brilliant, but i still like watching aoeII more. That might change, but it seems like IV will have a lower skill cap with no quick walls and dodging arrows.
I feel like quickwall and dodging arrows are the type of thing that make the game very cool when watching pro players, but very annoying for most casual or semi competitive players. And also realistically its quite stupid yes aha but that's not my biggest concern. There's good sides and bad sides there
All the AoE 2 & 3 players I follow all, very recently, put out AoE 4 content and gave impromptu, ringing endorsements of it throughout their youtube videos. I can't tell if they're being paid to do it or what but it sounds reluctant every time...that being said, I'm looking forward to going home, gulping down a delicious pint of G-Fuel and loading up AoE 4 on my brand new Alienware which performs great with little to no fan noise. Nooo its all a habit man, i suck but coming from pro aoe2 makes me used to playing fast and clicking alot. Here im not good enough to play fast so i usually click alot while soong very little 🤣
Game is trash. I don't even know where to begin with. The vibe and everything it's just wrong. The camera angle alone puts me off. This is another failure like AOE3. Thanks but I'll stick to AOE2.
The game looks like trash. Or maybe- like 'Myth', which is a strategy game from 2001. The 3D, and more realistic look of, say, farms, is so unnecessary for this genre- it works against it.

Hera, there is no point in microing to dodge arrows in this game. Once they are fired, they will find their target, because they are homing missiles.

The projectiles in this game never miss. You cannot micro ur way to victory in a ranged fight the same way like AoE2.

That "mangonel' seems like it was a packed building that when he built it in front of your base buffed and/or healed his mangudai.
Archers micro is just so different compared to aoe2. The weakness of the lord no longer a weakness 🤣

The Arbalatrier would've helped here due to it's pierce armour abillity it can activate, tooltip doesn't mention it

Palisades and outposts (towers) man. French xbows are actually great at resisting ranged dmg but it requires microing their activated ability.

Not building walls vs Mongols in this game is quite punishing.
Also no point in doing micro with archers. Arrows have à 100% hit rate in AOE4

AOE2: DE by default has the grid hotkey and it took me a couple weeks, but I didn't bother changing it, and now I really like it.

Skill is in macro m8 and exploiting those bugs were both kinda dumb IMO.

I think you're assuming they didn't add any micro potential. They've added unit abillities that you have to time as well.
