Me too. A couple of weeks. Also sounds like he was paid by devialet to promote. At this price he is entering into audiophile territory and just being clear at loud volume simply won't do.
@@Gren4te Is suppose that's right, since I ditched my Acoustimass 3 years ago in favour of store bought Richters and another pair I built at home. These Devialet sure LOOK interesting though.
Yes, he may not know all the specs or be an audiophile, but he's also got to relate to the average viewer too, and Bose is "good" in the consumers eye 🤣
Devialet's engineering is far beyond that done by Bose. Bose is mostly marketing, and historically their products have only had mediocre sound at best.
@surfitlive you duno what you're talking about. Software updates have made these work perfect. I've had 1 for almost 2 years and got a 2nd about 3 month ago. After setting it up correctly I've never had a single issue with connection. I use it every day
So. How deep does it go? It is rated 14 Hertz. Does it really go there? Can you feel it? 20 Hertz atleast. Easy. You can hear it. And feel it strongly. Their Heart Bass Implosion technology is impressive.
It probably needs that power to play the woofers that low in a small sealed box. Nice heavy domes to get them to resonate in the sub range in the tiny enclosure, then throw a bunch of power at to make it capable in the sub range. Not efficient or well impedance matched to the air but it should work.
Almost picked up a used pair of silvers with bridge and volume control for $3200. Did an extensive listening session playing a lot of the music that I know and love. At low volumes, these are fantastic. At higher SPL, they are, well... louder. Rock Concert loud? No. Loud enough to get your neighbor's attention? Yes. The sound quality is very good for the pressure levels that they can achieve, but... there just wasn't enough low end grunt for me. And for that reason, I'm out.
I literally found one of those on the street it had just rained it was night time and it was next to a Wendy’s it looked like it had been dropped from a car woofers worked but they where scratchy and basically bad over all the midrange was kinda crushed and the tweeter was the only lucky one I took it out and now I use it on one of my rsl studio monitors 3300 that has a tweeter blown I’m just impressed of how much power it takes same as volume they get loud and no distortion
If thats the best sound you have ever heard than you are missing a lot.. try a pair of Tannoy tower speakers, a great yamaha reciever and a pair of svs subs and you will be mindblown for a awile :) but in an engenier stand point these devialet speakers are trully amazing..
For their size they probably have the most powerful full range sound. Larger speakers could do the same with considerably smaller amplifiers. Most of the power will be used on trying to get huge bass out of the small inefficient enclosure using the specially designed bass drivers.
The thing is, while the unit does use more power than a larger speaker to produce similar results, the way they pressurize the unit allows the power to be considerably less than expected to produce such a considerable sound.
From an actual mechanical engineer's standpoint I can tell you that this speaker is truly a dookie dookie fart box. Also, Yamaha makes some pretty amazing amps/ recievers, however they are by far not the best and especially to drive a pair of Tannoy towers. I know this because I've repaired numerous amps and other stereo componentry. If you want my opinion, pick up some ELAC 6 inch bookshelf monitors, PS Audio sprout amp, and take the $1000 you saved and buy a gold toilet seat. Or gold sneakers, or a gold chair or a gold watch or a gold therapy session to get over the obsession with gold.
Meat Man you’re a basic engineer then. Only the two side plates are Gold and they are gold plated. The other two Phantom have polished steel. You haven’t even looked into the engineering of the product.
I've done enough research to achieve a comprehensive understanding of both the physical design methodology and execution of this product. I am aware of the plethora of materials they use in this speaker's construction. I also appreciate a well designed circuit. Having found pictures I can see that this is well made. I never said it wasn't. What I did say is that it is a piece of crap. Let me clarify. The speaker appears to have a cast aluminium composite frame and glass fiber reinforced poly-carbonate driver domes. The external skin is cheap ABS. That includes the driver faces. The digital to analog converter entails a heavy amount of digital signal processing given their claim of ADH2 technology. Basically a proprietary ARM based software DAC linked to a class D amplifier using "magic wire". The signal processing and reproduction specifications are no better than that of a basic T amp. The driver material and excursion factor are indicative of high levels of harmonic distortion at increasing volumes. This may be counteracted with loads digital signal processing. Therefore altering the music to fit the speaker. This is highly undesirable. Along with that, the drivers use conventional magnets and voice coils. The titanium tweeter has been done by numerous manufacturers with seemingly good results. The concentric midrange driver being convex and having a plastic face must have a unique and nasty dispersion pattern. The same can be said for the woofers. Now the funny part. $2500 bucks, and no stereo separation. What you are getting for this price is nothing short of abysmal. In fact you are getting played.♥
Agreed, got a pair of these and indeed the quality/price ratio is just awesome, Devialet did a tremendous job here. So yep, quite expensive but no doubt, definitively worth it. One important thing though, the quality of the source do a real difference at this level so lossless at 16 or 24bits is more than welcome!
Aussie Guy you can only get 1800 watts max for a few minutes out a wall outlet, this thing is “definitely” 4.5 times more powerful then the 18 inch QSC pro audio subs I use at live gigs... all the people that find this thing mind blowing have obviously only used small Bluetooth speakers, my 7 year old Polk 12 would eat this thing alive with its 450 watt peak amp.
@@miespost You and I are on the same page here!!! BUT BUT I have never heard one. Gotta listen to one soon before I criticise it too much. I own a pair of QSC Kw12. People can't believe the sound they produce and I've learned the new range QSC has double the output.!
The volume control is built into the app for free! The REMOTE is £120 which is expensive but it's not compulsory. You could put that money towards a couple of years from Tidal
I'd like to know what deems these speakers premium products. I'm no stranger to expensive tech, owning most things Apple make and upgrading regularly but you're paying for a brand here. The quality is good but can be bettered by a proper stereo. Heck, even the Naim Muso tends to sound a bit better unless you play these really loudly.
They seriously need to make one of these that has regular RCA or XLR inputs... A high output coaxial speaker that can get down to 20hz would be perfect for nearfield using something like the MiniDSP to flatten out the response.
still costs 3000 dollar in europe , the gold one that is the normal one is 1800 for 6000 you can have a much better product then these things , cause you're gonna have to have 2 of them
People People people! The 4500 watt is NOT RMS. Devialet never claimed it was. Digital amplifiers can easily peak at 4500 Watts, but only for a number of nano-seconds. You cannot compare class D with analog power amplification.
The Quality is incredible yes. BUT!!. It does lack in overall range. The Devialet (Gold) has two distinct shortcomings, It has fantastic lows, but sacrifices a bit of mid range tone, it has highs but lack in extreme highs. So there's a loss in overall melody and crisp which muddy's the sound quite a bit, That said the speaker is flawless when played loud, no distortion whatsoever, breaking cracking or popping, you get the notion if the speaker did have those extra highs it could easily blow itself. But your ears does register whats missing as if it needs high range satellite speakers. The loss in the mid range melody is due to the focus and strength of its massive low sub range. The vibration simply nullifies the mid tones. But again, one cant coexist fully with the other, the reason why sub woofers speakers are typically created seporate. And thats the key with the Devialet, considering what your getting overall in one unit its amazing but at a slight cost. Lastly is the fact that though its sound is certainly good, it could be more stereophonic, it is one speaker after all, in other words two devialets is best for certain. For the cost the Devialet is worth every penny considering what your getting overall and what a comparable setup would cost. Keeping in mind the devialet is an all in one package. youd have to get a full high quality audio system amps speakers receiver to normally get such quality, and cough up even more if the unit is anything like a visual work of art. The Devialet is fantastic, but at the cost of some melodic tonal range, but im sure if it had what it lacks it couldn't do the amazing things it does, the price paid for astonishing performance.
I wonder what the opinion is of audiophiles on this speaker. In the audio world there seems to be a very clear distinction between what audiophiles appreciate (being music should be amplified and resonated as neutral as possible) or what the mass market in general enjoys (overpowered bass in combination with high treble). So, I wonder in which category these speakers falls: it's not because equipment is capable of delivering mind blowing bass they are good speakers. Good speakers should be capable of handling all kinds of music (be it hip hop, techno, rock, jazz, classic) and I do get the feeling these speakers are more orientated towards those who enjoy listening to music in which the bass is the key element. Anyone has an opinion on this speakers when it comes to listening to jazz or classic music and don't appreciate over pronounced bass?
Yeah. I have two of the standard White Phantom and they seriously do compare to very high end 'audiophile' systems. The reason people talk about the bass so much is because it's quite incredible what such a tiny unit can output. It really shocks you when you first hear it. But that doesn't mean it cannot be balanced and natural. The bass in my experience plays ONLY as intended. I never feel like it's over the top or unnatural. It always compliments the music just right and the overall response and timing of the drivers is excellent.
If they could add an RCA cable port (not digital coaxial), maybe it could be used as a subwoofer for your home theater? You could run a cable from the AV receiver's subwoofer pre-out to the Devialet input. The Phantom Reactor has a 3.5 mm input and there are RCA to 3.5 mm cables but I don't know if that would work. I would prefer the low 14 Hz of the Phantom Gold.
It's all marketing , i doubt it even goes as low as 30hz. The regular customer would think the response is real , but only because they ve never heard anything go as low as they claim , so they ve got no ideea of how it should sound. PER TOTAL : It's a waste of money.
It's not peak, peak is clearly defined as (max. output voltage / speaker nominal impedance) * max. output voltage. RMS is peak power * 0.707. What you have here is PMPO (purely mythical power output) aka. Chinese overunity.
And no issues with having to repeated reset up. The electric heater coming out of the back. The Dialog hub that allows you to control a stereo pair that after only a month burns the rubber housing and get far too hot to touch. The way you can't know for sure if you put the Gold Phantom into sleep mode as there are no indicator lights. Spark, the application on a PC requires the screen to be 100% scaling. If running from a laptop or tablet at 150% or 200% text size many of the letters are not displayed. Spark should either resize the space for display text or fix the font. I ran the optical out from my PC for s few weeks before Spark refused to run. From a cold boot it claims another copy is already running. As my only fibre optical out (TV and set top recorder are coaxial) I can't use it for movies. The laptop sees the optical set up in the devices as input but it doesn't work. If you remove the mains you have to set it up again - usually. The sound is awesome. Yes I have as good - better for 5+1 surround Meridian active & DPS - but nothing so compact. The input options of Ethernet, Wi-fi and Bluetooth are confusing. Which is it using at any time? Playing internet radio is an immersive experience - e.g. the BBC Radio Prom nights. If Devialet can sort out the faults with Spark I would be very much happier.
You need to have two speakers Phantom to have a better sound experience ! I have listen two a three Devialet Phantom Silver ... It was so powerfull and great ! ( I'm french )
Difference is jbl rated 15 watts rms real power. Phantom rated 4500 pmpo fake power. Meaning phantom is more like 300 true watts so it's more like 20 jbl flips.
but it's a mono speaker... 2000 dollars, for mono? what is it, 1928? i could get a yamaha a-s1000 and a set of very nice bookshelves for 2000 dollars and have a real stereo.
The point of it is that it's considerably cheaper than a full range 'audiophile' stereo system. So buying two is still cheaper than a traditional system, without the need for all the additional components and amplifiers, cables, DAC's, and so on.
Kunchography but a Yamaha a-s1000 and a set of 1000 dollar speakers will sound better than even a pair of these. the point of these is to confuse the ignorant out of too much money.
mark902 have you even listened to them?? Because if not that’s the ignorant part. I don’t know anything that comes close to these and many many audio professionals think the same. Go sit down in a real listening environment with a pair of these and high quality audio.
I'm fine with an expensive Bluetooth speaker but when they start promoting it with misleading specs they lose all my respect. 4500 watts is peak power which means nothing it can just as well be 100 watts rms. They also claim 0.0005% thd and that also means nothing if they don't say at what power output, it's probably 0.0005% at 0.1 watts or something. I'm not saying it's a bad speaker or that it's overpriced but they have to be honest with the specs at that price point.
Yea right 14Hz, if such small thing can produce loud enough 25hz in a room, I'll be impressed. BTW, there is a mid range driver beside the tweeter, the outer ring is the cone. Gotta admit the design and engineering of this thing is awesome.
certainly plays the deep stuff in the three ralphs by DJ shadow and theres serious 25-20hz segments in that track and it plays them loud with no distortion (DSP controlled) the biggest problem everything else gets over shadowed no mids no highs n sound stage all very soft if it wasn't for the bass there would be no attack at all
I have owned a Devialet Phantom Gold for over 5 years…. I was never able to use it at all. The Bluetooth connectivity only works for a few minutes then the speaker disconnects. I was never able to solve the problem and just gave up on it. It’s a nice paper weight !!!😢. If anyone has experienced the same thing and has a solution; Please share.
Does anyone own a pair of the phantom golds with the dialog? I absolutely love the sound, connectivity and look of these speakers HOWEVER, my only concern is longevity. It's a relatively new technology, it is a self powered Bluetooth speaker and from what I hear, impossible to open and repair. I just had a JBL extreme speaker start to have problems ironically a few months after the warranty expired. I'd hate to buy a full Phantom gold set up only to have it start having problems in any way after the warranty expires which would be a huge bummer. To the gold/silver owners, have you had any problems? Is it smooth sailing and meeting your expectations and enjoyment? Please let us all know.
Diminishing returns. It's nothing but hyperbole, inflation and just overall stinks of some guise like they're trying to be pretentious and "Avant Garde", bs like that. I have never really needed anything that loud for 2k- that will distort at remotley loud volumes (because physics) and that plays MP3 (and if you spend that much one a Bluetooth speaker just to play MP3 you obviously deserve to be ripped off). I mean really it would obviously sound not as good compared to my Atmos Home theatre, which costs just slightly less with dedicated subs and etc. However, loudness doesn't equate to quality either- rather the headroom of what you have to works with. Besides, unlike boasting it's audible range in Hz, it doesn't necessarily reflect the tonal quality of what frequencies it works with, meaning potentially it could be entirely spreading itself thin on frequencies you won't hear or care about within the human audible range of hearing. For the most part idk how you could shill yourself out and recommend this to the majority of people who will use this to stream; shit in shit out I say, but you aren't going to have better audio beyond what is physically possible from a compressed lossy audio source or just MP3. Fact. Not to say this is inhernetly bad, if you have more money than sense then go for it. Just be warned that this is insanely overkill- and I don't know about you, but this thing looks tacky af. I'd least understand if it was shooting for the "portable", though technically not, shtick but it isn't and begs the question why not get into dedicated audio equipment? You know, that doesn't charge 100$ for freaking basic options! 🤭😂.
Ja Lee , watts for sound are different then for p=u*i. You can get 10.000watts of music power out of a 3800watt outlet, using digital amplifying and use of capacitors. Look up Powersoft if you want.
Michael Renders what 110v outlet can support 3800 watts? That would require a 35 amp breaker and would be closer to a 40 amp breaker to leave a little headroom. Wall outet breakers in the US are typically 15 amps or 20 amps.
Ja Lee in the Netherlands we have 220-240, so that means 3520-3840 watt for home usage. We can even go to 25ampere when needed, so that would mean 6000watt.
Michael Renders than this would not work in the US on our outlets without 220v hookup which we do have but are typically found in the garage or for laundry dryers. 220v is far more dangerous. Fact is the phantom is nowhere near 4500 watts period. Do you understand the power of 4500 watts of audio power. 4500watts RMS power would rock a concert. A true 4500 watt amplifier would weigh heavier than 3 of these phantoms and much much larger. Also the heat generated by 4500 watts would burn this phantom in minutes. you would need a huge heat sink to dissipate the immense heat generated by 4500 watts of power.
I'm curious about the Devialet speaker. But more power doesn't equal loudness. More power is mostly more quality sound. And 14Hz is nice but not audible for a human being. Besides this I definitely eager how it sounds in real life.
portability maybe, but not totally. because it still needs a wired power source. 4,500watts? of RMS or PMPO (peak momentary power output)? Its not clearly mentioned in the specs. But with the cost of $3,000, I can have a real blow speaker, 1set of QSC K12.2 + QSC KS212 subwoofer it will blow your room for just $2,500 and $500 for food and drinks or a total of $3,000..
@@crisantocaparida7083 I couldn’t agree more. For stereo listening you must have two of these. That will cost a whopping $6000. So even more money to spend on food! Also, I don’t think the speaker is capable of 4500 Watt RMS. The spec sheet says a maximum SPL level of 108 dB. With regular speakers you can hit this loudness with ease with an 80 Watt RMS amplifier. It looks cool and have some nice aesthetic appeal, but worth the price? I don’t think so. Thanks 🙏 for your comment!
I actually attended a convention where devialet had a booth with 7 or more of these in a surround configuration. In my honest opinion, I was not impressed with the sound. I think the design is cool and all, but for the same amount of money (if portability is not of concern) I would look elsewhere for better sound quality.
I wish Devialet made their own party speaker. For real. That goes 10 Hertz. And is 115 dB loud. Already plenty pf sound. And like 2000 watts RMS and maybe 7500 watts Peak. I want an absolute monster. JBL has already good Partyboxes, but i need more. JBL Partybox Ultimate. Too big and not enough deep bass. I want all the way to 20 Hertz. I want an absolute monster. And JBL Partybox 300 sized. Devialet could easily with thier own monster technology make one. 🗿🍷 I am desperate for a truly great speaker! I want one! I need one! JBL is not great! I need moarrr!
Hey man! NIce video! I was wondering since i read a lot about pairing 2 of them as a tv setup but there were some limitations! Do you know anything about that?
I must admit I had a little difficulty when trying to use the optical input. It wasn't detecting the audio automatically. Maybe that could be the limitation.
You can pair two of them as long as you have the Devialet Dialogue. This will allow you to configure them as a stereo pair, or beyond. Once you have the Dialogue you can connect the Optical input to either the Dialogue or either of the two Phantom's directly. I advise you to connect the Optical input to a Phantom, rather than the Dialogue because depending on the source and bitrate the Dialogue optical processing can be a little bit dodgy. You can find all the available formats that are supported through Optical on the Devialet website. They won't accept a direct Dolby Digital 5.1 source, but they will accept others.
I challenge you to get a system that costs 20,000 to match what a pair of Golds, the Dialog and a pair of Tree stands can do. Go ahead. Thats twice the price of what all those go for. Im here waiting.
Yes for same price you can get better sound quality. Better DAC and better amplifier too. But the main points of this speaker are compact size and good looking
"We're talking about a speaker with... the engineering of a Bose." Hahaha, this dude doesn't even have a clue about how badly he just insulted Devialet with that comparison. Sacrebleu, the Devialet guys must be losing their minds right now! While these boxes of BOOM are just not all that good (admittedly, I've only head the White and Silver, not the Gold, which is said to be an improvement), the one thing you can at least say is that they are far, far superior to anything Bose has ever made (except for their QuietComfort 35 headphones, which are admittedly pretty darn good for what they are).
A have Quiet Comfort 35s - excellent ... I also have a Bose L1 PA , had it for nearly 10 yrs, constant gigging ... again excellent. But, unlike you, I am unfamiliar with everything else they've ever made. So I can't make a valid comment
Can you measure if it really goes to 14hz ? I like to read spec too but cmon man, 4500watts for 108 db max ? That means a sensitivity of 71dB :D Its no more than 150w. But ye i want to see a graph of how it goes to 14hz.
It can do so because it's heavily equalized. They just boost the extreme low end so it's as loud as the other frequencies at low volume, but it's not able to put out 105db@14hz without flat-topping. And yes, the power ratings are hokum.
A lot of people are talking about Naim Uniti. Naim are releasing new streamers this year Linn have a streaming range called "Sneaky" and "Sekrit" which have room and phase correction. This technology is excellent when used properly. ATC have released their CDA2. Rega and Project turntables are good but look at a "Michell Gyrodec." As for speakers, there are many good ones. The Falcon LS3/5A is a very good one. If you can't afford an LS35A, the Focal Aria range is awesome. The same can be said for ProAc with their DB1's and PMC with their Twenty5.21's. If you want a nice Floorstanding speaker, KEF's Reference range is excellent. Linn Majik 140's are excellent. The PMC Twenty5.23 is an award winner. Cyrus have released their "OneHD" which is a supercharged version of the One with a 32bit DAC. But finally, DEVIALET MAKE AMPLIFIERS. They started their business with their "Expert" range. Which is now known as "Expert Pro Core Infinity." Their entry level model is the "130 Pro." Pair it with any of the speakers mentioned above.
Devialet making amplifiers is a good reason to realize that they have some very deep knowledge on how speakers work, and are more than capable of producing a Hi-Fi grade speaker, which is what the Phantom is. If their amplifiers are good enough to pair up to these high end speakers, why wouldn't their speakers using the same technology be just as good as the speakers their amps pair with?
Kunchography Devialet make really good amplifiers but the Phantom is a speaker that wouldn't sound at all good unless it was digitally corrected using their patented SAM technology. However, on their amplifiers, SAM is a configurable adjustment which aligns the phase of the treble and bass to suit the listening position in small or large rooms. Genius! The Phantom does not have this adjustability, so it is designed for an average, home environment and can only be tweaked by repositioning it. The Phantom could use a few more technologies from the Expert amplifiers in my opinion.
The Phantom has other patented technology which contributes to the final sound than just SAM. SAM itself does not touch the audio input or output. It only handles the hardware. Most of the purpose of SAM in the Phantom is to prevent driver overload, stops them from exceeding limits and becoming damaged, as well as keeping all the drivers time aligned, and phased correctly with each other. This is identical to the core purpose of SAM on the Expert line and the reason SAM exists. The room adjustment is a bonus and requires quite a bit of customary configuration apart from preset SAM profiles from Devialet for the basic driver properties. SAM across both platforms is designed to optimize driver efficiency (sometimes meaning a gain in performance from higher driver control, phase alignment, timing, accuracy and thermal management) without exceeding the limits of the hardware. For the room attributes on Phantom this can be done through other means and can also be added through firmware at a later point, then requiring a room study with results that can be loaded into the unit. At design Phantom was mostly intended to just play the music as pure as possible, without any adjustments or touches to the final source. Simple, and easy while delivering a comparable experience to a more complex and advance setup. SAM alone wouldn't pull off what those woofers are doing. The design of them is a very big factor in their sound and ability to perform. You can't just stick traditional woofers on a box of that size and expect that kind of output. SAM paired with the ADH chip allows accurate excursion and output true to the source without exceeding the physical driver limits. This includes the woofers, the mid range, and the tweeter. ADH processing allows the audio to be amplified while retaining it's purest form. The Expert line uses all of the same technology, but in an amplifier for other speakers. Phantom is designed to harness all the technology of both inside the speaker.
Engineering of a bose!!!!! WTF the build quality is far and away better made than any bose product...... If you like beats headphones your'll like this. The compromise is there isn't much mid range, theres a very big whole. Personally id get one of there amps and key ls50.
You gotta be kidding me 4500 watts! If you're using a 120 volt plug with a 15 amp breaker that gives you 1800 watts before the breaker trips. You would need a 40 amp breaker to run that so called 4500 watt speaker. I suppose you could always plug it into your oven or drier socket to give it its maximum power. Right? Nice try buddy.
Power in audio means nothing, its a unit of electricity not sound, db is sound output, watts is electricity consumed to put that sound out, and 1100w to output only 108db is quite inefficient, doesnt mean ut dont sound good, its just going on about power when in reality it means jack is pretty dumb, in fact power thats not turned into sound is usually turned into heat which is bad for speaker coils, in this instance though i think it might be more to overcome the pressurised cab, but if you gonna review audio especially to audiophiles maybe you should understand this concept lol
Dear mr presenter, This is a sponsored review. Why you didn't mention that? The speaker is overpriced and overhyped. The target audience for sure are the ppl, who are rich and need a decorative element in their room. Good audio quality is not this. According to the numbers this is a better speaker than an ATC studio monitor(we all know it isn't). Please be a bit less biased.
Something like a Pro-Ject Essential 2 or 3 Digital is all you 'need'. ...With emphasis on the 'Digital'. Input into Phantom is only Optical or Network digital so you need a digital phono stage or ADC (Analogue to Digital Converter).
there is no point using Vinyl if you want to use this; the signal will have to be converted to digital, thus defeating the point of an analogue source, especially if the DAC you use is not that great
Here's a point ... It can be done and sounds great. Most half decent ADCs, say 24/96 optical to the Phantom, will convey a largely transparent image, suitable to all but a small percentage of discerning audiophiles.
Bang and Olufsen, Bowers and Wilkins, Abramtek, Harmon Kardon are a few better than Bose. Bose only has marketing but their products are lackluster for their price.
That's looks like a scam advertisement to me ONE speaker with 1 driver and 1 tweeter can rock a concert hall full of people. I mean that's something too big for it's size i think it can produce like 200 watt maximum before the components inside it fail
fex114 I've seen some of them what i have seen is that it cannot meet their advertisement specs 4500 watt is equal to a small rock outdoor festival (approx 50ft. From speakers to audience and there's thousands of audience )
thanison: why not? it's made of titanium. it produces 30 kg (70 lb) of bass force. Sure 108 db is not 112 db but it is close. and with no distortion at all. It is another thing entirely than an old-school speaker. So. Sure it can. seek it out, listen to it live. You'll see.
Sorry, I like the thing but I couldn't justify 2.5 to 3 grand on it. This is nothing more than a toy for the millionaire with a few grand to throw away. There are cars I would rather have for the same money, motorcycles, solar panels for the roof of a home, build an extra garage, blacktop the driveway...
RMS i.e. Root Mean Square roughly equates 0.7 (0.7071) so I guess it's around 3.1 Kw which, in turn, I strongly doubt ( by a factor of 10 at least) . Anyway why would you want 4.5 Kw in a house,,, quite simply ridiculous... I would like to hear one though
There's a lot of people that are into HiFi and are audio enthusiasts that said these have an incredible mediocre midrange, nasal and not defined. As excpected, since this is aimed at complete noobs
second that, my google speaker sound better than the Bluetooth bose speaker...and that 3 times more costly than the google speaker, the only thing it has that is somewhat water resistant.
Came here under the impression you've been using it for a year.
me too, at the end i was shocked to hear it was a commercial, thanks to .. for hooking me this thing up ... like wtf
Me too. A couple of weeks. Also sounds like he was paid by devialet to promote. At this price he is entering into audiophile territory and just being clear at loud volume simply won't do.
Bruce Lee he won't ever have to listen to at high volume, it's max volume is louder than legally allowed in nightclubs
Yeah, the fact that he’s only used it for a couple of weeks makes the title clickbait.
😶this is DUM
“The engineering of a Bose” you say that like it’s a good thing, audio products go sooo much beyond this
That made it absolutely clear he has no clue.
Let me recite you a small poem.
No highs,
no lows.
Must be Bose
@@Gren4te Is suppose that's right, since I ditched my Acoustimass 3 years ago in favour of store bought Richters and another pair I built at home. These Devialet sure LOOK interesting though.
Yes, he may not know all the specs or be an audiophile, but he's also got to relate to the average viewer too, and Bose is "good" in the consumers eye 🤣
But QVC says bose is amazing and the best in the world, and they would never lie! Right...?
this design has absolutely nothing to do with Bose's design.
I am a headphone collector and I'd say this speaker's closest equivalent in my collection is the Beyerdynamic T5P 2nd gen. Such good engineering.
Have got a pair of these. Absolutely amazing!! All music just sounds so much better!
I completely agree! There's just much more detail in the music.
Devialet's engineering is far beyond that done by Bose. Bose is mostly marketing, and historically their products have only had mediocre sound at best.
Devialet's marketing is the worst. Nothing but hokum specifications.
Fake power ratings and nothingburgers like "internal sound pressure".
Dude what do you think this is? This is form over function, marketing over cost effective, smart engineering. PASS.
MaximumCat AGREED 👍
Phil Greene nah. I don’t agree with that. These are very well engineered. You should check out John Darko’s review.
@surfitlive you duno what you're talking about. Software updates have made these work perfect. I've had 1 for almost 2 years and got a 2nd about 3 month ago. After setting it up correctly I've never had a single issue with connection. I use it every day
A crazy frequency range but limited by Bluetooth input quality... what would be the best way to exploit the sound quality of this speaker?
I think they call a frozen rain drop a snowflake...?
Lol yes but frozen rain drop sounds better
Hail
Tyler Dobkins ha ha yes I should have used that!
It's metric.
No, thats wrong. A frozen rain drop is called ice. Snow is snow. Frozen water is ice.
"Engineering of a Bose" - stopped watching after this
‘No highs no lows only Bose”
What’s wrong with Bose dude?
They engineered good marketing and that's about it.
So.
How deep does it go?
It is rated 14 Hertz.
Does it really go there?
Can you feel it?
20 Hertz atleast.
Easy.
You can hear it.
And feel it strongly.
Their Heart Bass Implosion technology is impressive.
I have the silver phantom ! That is so good . I can't even imagine how good the gold one must be !
It's the same just can go louder. The Silver is just as awesome.
Gold has cleaner and more controled sound because of titanium tweater...
I'd say the engineering of a Genelec: Minimize diffraction, all active DSP crossovers, coaxial drivers, plenty of bass.
Thannk you I must say I appreciate your calmness. Indeed, you’re not shouting like a 14 yo kid while doing your video.
I wonder if the Phantom Golds would have given you the Low End Grunt you expected?
Salute to fRench and itaLian Audio engineers... its a masterpiece you cant deny that! Hear it tO bLow ur mind tho.
I bought 4 of these in black friday. 50% off. Thay are awesome.
50% off!? Thats crazy!!
Please don’t literally blow my mind, I’m quite fond of it.
Jean-Louis Cordieri lol how can you talk about price/performance ratio?
Two of these are what, 6000 dollars? You can buy true HiFi equipment with that
Th
You know that is only about 200/250w RMS right ? Just sounds loud because the speakers are super efficient, 4500w is Peak lol
Is that like hating or you don't no your math Thats 2500 each side
There's no way no no no way this is 4.5kw that's dumb as. It would melt in a minute.
It’s 1100w rms lmao
Does it come in black? If it doesn’t please suggest
120 pounds for volume control? That seems kinda terrible and inexcusable to me
That's the price you pay for a premium product.
WhatGear lol thats price you pay for being a shill
The volume control is built into the app for free! The REMOTE is £120 which is expensive but it's not compulsory. You could put that money towards a couple of years from Tidal
I'd like to know what deems these speakers premium products. I'm no stranger to expensive tech, owning most things Apple make and upgrading regularly but you're paying for a brand here. The quality is good but can be bettered by a proper stereo. Heck, even the Naim Muso tends to sound a bit better unless you play these really loudly.
If you can't afford it, then its not meant for you
I turned it up all the way its loud but i dont think its 108db because i measured it and i got lower. What can i do?
Please tell me who is better ant audio rock 400 or devialet gold phantom 😞😞😞😞😞😞😌
“3 o’clock in the morning and there I was, looking for 1000 brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass”
Lol that's from Wayne's world right?
WhatGear it is indeed, your voice just reminded of it is all, n that’s not a dig coz it’s a great movie and character 👍👍
They seriously need to make one of these that has regular RCA or XLR inputs... A high output coaxial speaker that can get down to 20hz would be perfect for nearfield using something like the MiniDSP to flatten out the response.
It's nice how you didn't even turn on the speaker in a speaker review
still costs 3000 dollar in europe , the gold one that is
the normal one is 1800
for 6000 you can have a much better product then these things , cause you're gonna have to have 2 of them
What could I have thats better then? Bear in mind I don't want a stereo, it has to be wireless with airplay. And it needs to be wall mounted.
I have one silver and I love it!
The bass is immense when turned up. Although I must admit these are really awesome across the board with everything I listened to
I would
prefer the low 14 Hz of the Phantom Gold.
It's all marketing , i doubt it even goes as low as 30hz.
The regular customer would think the response is real , but only because they ve never heard anything go as low as they claim , so they ve got no ideea of how it should sound.
PER TOTAL : It's a waste of money.
4500w PEAK. not rms power. even peak is too much for that. maybe 200w rms max
You need to hear it
WhatGear its a fake pmpo power figure for marketing. More like a true 200 watt rms if lucky.
It's not peak, peak is clearly defined as (max. output voltage / speaker nominal impedance) * max. output voltage.
RMS is peak power * 0.707.
What you have here is PMPO (purely mythical power output) aka. Chinese overunity.
Grozni the silver phantom produces 450W rms according to Devialet . I guess the gold phantom produces up to 700 W rms
Malcolm Quantum
According to Devialet hahaha
This is my favourite speaker, really loud, good bass, and a nicely made video 👍🏼😘😍
You need to have two speakers Phantom to have a better sound experience ! I have listen two a three Devialet Phantom Silver ... It was so powerfull and great ! ( I'm french )
My Bose just noticeably whined, then shed tears. Amazing...
I've never tested a speaker as good as this
GEMINI.....
not that "you owe me"
we get another STIMULUS .... count on some!!!
I truly feel GUIDED ya know
(TWIN.... I'm so feeling this)
Just told my wife my birthday is coming up and I have something that could make it a really good one for me.
haha this is 15 birthdays for me
Difference is jbl rated 15 watts rms real power.
I'll have to try check out those Yamahas
You can get a couple of Kef LS50 Wireless for less than one of these. Judging by the reviews, better sound too.
The logic that adding extra speakers give you more volume may be slightly flawed. It doesn’t.
Does it operates on a battery
Hi and Happy New Years. I purchase phantom gold. Did your experience on listening on loud volume the gold ornament coming out 🤔🧐🙈? Thx
The Top for me, with a Dialog... Since 2 weeks...
That is a monster. UK.
Is this a review or are you just reading Devialet's marketing flyer and made a video out of it ?
Yea right 14Hz, if such small thing can produce loud enough 25hz in a room, I'll be impressed. BTW, there is a mid range driver beside the tweeter, the outer ring is the cone. Gotta admit the design and engineering of this thing is awesome.
It's one of those things you just have to hear it to believe it. The bass is insane.
certainly plays the deep stuff in the three ralphs by DJ shadow and theres serious 25-20hz segments in that track and it plays them loud with no distortion (DSP controlled) the biggest problem everything else gets over shadowed no mids no highs n sound stage all very soft if it wasn't for the bass there would be no attack at all
I have owned a Devialet Phantom Gold for over 5 years…. I was never able to use it at all. The Bluetooth connectivity only works for a few minutes then the speaker disconnects. I was never able to solve the problem and just gave up on it. It’s a nice paper weight !!!😢.
If anyone has experienced the same thing and has a solution; Please share.
Having a good speaker is not all. You also need a good source which cost even more than the speaker.
That is true
What do you mean by source ?
How does it make so much volume?
Uk underdog!!!
Even though everything accross the range is pretty shitty for 2.5k€ the bass is actually quite delicious
You definitely have not heard this speaker before. Go listen to one before you open your mouth
@@AbsoluteFidelity Haha
Please let us all know.
should I buy 2 reactors or big 1? can u help me.
If it's going to be connected to your TV setup, get two
@@WhatGear what about 2 of them to listen to your music in stereo?
4500 watts requires 3 phase power. It would pop the breakers anytime you played it loud.
Ja Lee the goal is to put the power in the speakers, not loose it as heat. Look up Powersoft and check it.
I have a question: This is one Speaker right? if I only have this one I am listening MONO and NOT STEREO?!
Of course you can pair them for a powerfull stereo setup
You can’t even relate this speaker to Bose or sonos it’s on a completely different level
Alex Bradley I agree it's definitely on another level
so why did you say Bose build quality?
I'm curious about the Devialet speaker. But more power doesn't equal loudness. More power is mostly more quality sound. And 14Hz is nice but not audible for a human being. Besides this I definitely eager how it sounds in real life.
It's really amazing. It'll blow you away
portability maybe, but not totally. because it still needs a wired power source. 4,500watts? of RMS or PMPO (peak momentary power output)?
🗿🍷
I am desperate for a truly great speaker!
I want one!
Got a chance to hear a 7.1 Dolby setup..... heaven was in my ears
Can you tell me what’s the exactly set up included?
A high end bluetooth speaker for millionaires.
For that price,I can get real speakers.
I challenge you to get a system that costs 20,000 to match what a pair of Golds, the Dialog and a pair of Tree stands can do. Go ahead. Thats twice the price of what all those go for. Im here waiting.
this is for minimalists who aren't purist audiophiles and aren't concerned with price
Yes for same price you can get better sound quality. Better DAC and better amplifier too. But the main points of this speaker are compact size and good looking
Great video man.
Thanks man I really appreciate it
Awesome looking speaker! just hope it sounds like its look
Quite honestly this is one of the best speakers I've ever heard
Yeeeeeeeeeees.......!!!!!!!!!
So I can't make a valid comment
make a good weapon for alien invasion
Hello, have you tried it in your car?
4500watts pmpo? surely not rms
281 x JBL, then it is roughly 8 timers louder. I wonder how this speaker compares with Gelelec One, e.g. 8351
It literally didnt blow my mind because you did not even tested the speakers.
Amazing, looks like something Stright out of a sify 😵
It's a really awesome design
Ikr and thats an understatement .
never heard one don't have to for my comment.14hz bass is total bs.nothing that size is gonna produce 14hz bass.at any useable output anyway.
You need to hear one
don't need to. to know what im saying is true.it takes massive subs to produce true 14hz bass.
Maybe it does but the sound at 14hz would be super weak
@@hiro263 impossible to hit that low ..prolly down max 30hz if that
You should really hear these in action. The woofers have a huge range of movement. That way they can move much more air than conventional woofers.
It was me who dented it i'm verry sorry... I was just so curious how it would feel to sit on it and by balls accidentally dropped on the speaker.
People talk about affordability but never what it takes to create something like this. It’s always about fucking over the inventor.
try some proper hifi man!
Would do you recommend?
A lot of people are talking about Naim Uniti. Naim are releasing new streamers this year
Linn have a streaming range called "Sneaky" and "Sekrit" which have room and phase correction. This technology is excellent when used properly.
ATC have released their CDA2.
Rega and Project turntables are good but look at a "Michell Gyrodec."
As for speakers, there are many good ones.
2 grand and when it breaks it can not be repaired. 2 year warranty then in the skip it goes!
Yes it can, you send them to Devialet and they repair them.
Dear mr presenter,
This is a sponsored review.
I'll stick with two beoplay s3:)
whats the best setup you need for vinyl system if i want a Phantom?
Sorry but its a heavy boat anchor. Thats all it is. Bose systems are still better, period.
RC Hobbyist Extreme lol wow have you heard one?
Not even close
Bose is cheap junk. They use the cheapest parts and try to make up for it with cabinet design. Even their cabinets are made from cheap pressed board.
"The engineering of a Bose" is nothing to be thrilled about.
What do you consider to be the best on the market?
Bang and Olufsen, Bowers and Wilkins, Abramtek, Harmon Kardon are a few better than Bose. Bose only has marketing but their products are lackluster for their price.
your just someone that cant afford it your comments don't matter go sit down some were
4500 watts - Is that PMPO?
Yes its not RMS
I have tinnitus and I can't use mine anymore :(
I'm sure you could sell it pretty easily
Why can't you use it if you have tinnitus?
Wtf 4,500 watt? This thing have the power to rock a concert all by itself?
Yes it could 😀
That's looks like a scam advertisement to me ONE speaker with 1 driver and 1 tweeter can rock a concert hall full of people. I mean that's something too big for it's size i think it can produce like 200 watt maximum before the components inside it fail
Thanison; sorry but you are wrong. take a trip around youtube, there some great loudness tests
fex114 I've seen some of them what i have seen is that it cannot meet their advertisement specs 4500 watt is equal to a small rock outdoor festival (approx 50ft.
What on earth are you talking about: tech like Bose??? Devialet is far ahead of the crowd. Bose makes nothing to compare!
Far ahead in bogus marketing, yes.
Does this speaker sound the same as my philips nx5?
I've not heard that one, but I'll take a guess and say no...I don't think so
im sure it doesnt pull more than 800W from the wall
you mean 2500 watts peak? what is the RMS? 700 watts?
It's definitely 4500 watts peak. RMS does not equate the same way on these as traditional speakers so it is irrelevant.
Kunchography when you compared the flip 4 with the phantom you toke the rms from the flip 4 but not the peak :) as phantom does
Kunchography You know that what you've said literally makes no sense.
Did i just hear engineering of bose, you will make me puke dude.
Lol why do you think it's better or worse?
WhatGear bose are not known for good engieneering. They skimp on the hardware design to favour eq and marketing.
second that, my google speaker sound better than the Bluetooth bose speaker...and that 3 times more costly than the google speaker, the only thing it has that is somewhat water resistant.
Oh ya, Bose engineering that is good enough for NASA totally not good enough for some random dude
Maybe they put a Bose speaker in the toilets at NASA, so what xD
