    Nice job guys. Love the hardtop in the Spring and Fall up here. It transforms the car and certainly stiffens it up.

      Yeah I've heard that from a few owners. I've also heard that a rear roll hoop has the same effect. It don't half give the car a GT look 👍

      Phil's gone full circle with it, his had it with wire wheels, electronic ignition, free flow exhaust. His taken that all off now, and is going down the originality path. It's something I've always liked about his car, it's just a charming one that doesn't scream look at me. It's another TR6 in the crowd, but that why I like it, it's tidy, original and understated

    The hardtop completely transforms the character of the car. One question: How did you attach the rear corner pieces? I'm asking about those chromed cast metal pieces at the very rear, which continue the shiny trim around the buttresses. I had the worst time trying to keep those things from falling off.

    • @SteveDentonClassics

      Hi mate, it should slide in each side, and there should be a pin that holds it in place, however the pin is normally missing therefore just use some mastic or some sort of adhesive to hold it in place 👍

    Nice, just noticed the gaps on the rear section. Only noticeable when you are standing by the side in your white overalls. It's this the way they normally fit?

    • @SteveDentonClassics
      @SteveDentonClassics  Рік тому +1

      The hardtops aren't the best of fits in the world. You can get them closer to the deck, however you face issues with the TR6. The rear deck flexes and with the hardtop fitted too snugly it can cause dent marks. Although it does tighten up the car by making it more ridged 👍

      @@SteveDentonClassics OK Steve thanks for that info. Makes sence as you'd end up with a V rub mark on the rear deck 👍

    my hardtop never mounts that easy!! alignment of the holes is the biggest issue. Helps to loosen the windscreen. i created alignment pins for the front, i screw them in to the roof, lower the roof into place, remove the pins, and replace with the bolts. Also, keep the rubber disks in the rear wings 1/4 inch of the bodywork.

      @SteveDentonClassics  3 роки тому

      Hi Tim, thanks, the stand is from eBay. It's nothing special, just type in hardtop stand for Triumph TR6, and it should come up for around £80.00 👍

    My hardtop leaks from the top door seal on each side, if I drive in the rain. I need to remedy that; the car looks really great with the hard top installed. BTW, I've never had to remove my top to install the hard top. Did someone set up my car with extra snaps for this situation or something?

    • @SteveDentonClassics
      @SteveDentonClassics  4 роки тому

      I heard that you can leave the soft top in place with the hardtop on, but the hardtop requires the rear mounting bolts of the soft top to be unbolted so it can be bolted down at the back. So for the sake of a few extra bolts on the sides you may as well remove it and have some more cabin space. I'd be interested in knowing how your soft top tucks away with the hardtop in position

    • @jamcdona
      @jamcdona 4 роки тому +1

      @@SteveDentonClassics Me too! I'll take photos if I put it back in place; I'm curious now. I drove the car home from the preveous owner with 0 knowledge of what a TR6 is supposed to be like, and the owner had stowed the top away like this. Less room on the rear shelf for sure. I drove the car for a year before I even got the courage to remove the hard top, and was surprised that the soft top was way better- no leaks! The hard top makes the car look so exotic in my opinion, though.

    Easy peasy lemon squeazy! That hard top is very attractive but l think we'll all agree that the Stag change over is very much more straightforward although very much more heavier! Steve think l told you in the past my late brother had one brand new in 1973! in Mimosa and he had the car delivered with a hardtop. I helped him many times so knew (well nearly knew!) what the procedure was. Regarding Phil's , l think you said in the past that Phil's engine is "breathed on" . It certainly sounds very healthy. On a final note l missed a hardtop ,
    complete and in good condition about 2years back in TR classified for less than a £100. by 20 mins! I think there's a tatty , incomplete one on ebay for £650 ! I know my limits ! Thanks Guys. And l won't mention the part where you say you have 't had it off since 2013 !!😂😂 oops ! I did ! And l can beat that by a country mile!!😂😂 Just noticed Phil has very sensibly put aluminium tape around the deck panel bolt holes to protect the paintwork.

    Hello, in fitting this Hardtop, did you use the two Tube Spacers for the forward Bolts into the top rail of the Steel Windscreen Frame?
    If-so, are you able to describe the placement of them please. Many thanks from NZ.

    • @SteveDentonClassics
      @SteveDentonClassics  3 роки тому

      In all honestly it's been a while since we fitted the hardtop to Phil's TR6, but if memory serves be right we didn't use them, just bolted it straight to the windcreen frame. I've had my hardtop on my Spitfire Mk3 with the same windscreen frame for the last 6 months without the tube spacers without any problems 👍

    • @sidnzrael2433
      @sidnzrael2433 3 роки тому

      Many thanks Steve for prompt reply. Are you able to explain the fitment of them..? Rebuilding my Windscreen Frame, I tried to see where they actually fitted...
      (1) from under the top Windscreen Header Rail. (2) sitting directly on top of the Aluminium Finisher. (3) Protruding out from under the Hardtop Weather Seal, to then have to be guided to the Finisher...
      (4) actually fitted under/between the Finisher and sit loose inside the top Header Rail. As there is a 'locate' in the underside of the Finisher to allow the Large Flange on the Tube Spacer to seat...Inserting a long Dome Bolt seems to work with the Tube moving & aligning...I had ordered new Spacers to cut the long shaft down in length to fit as described above and treated the cut edge (4).🤔

    • @SteveDentonClassics
      @SteveDentonClassics  3 роки тому

      If you do use the distance spacers they are just meant to drop in place from above after removing the cover rubbers. My good friend Cheftush shows how they are fitted in his hardtop video 👍 ua-cam.com/video/Fq6ULnhAHXY/v-deo.html

      Hmmm, I agree but then again I don't! The 6 is a brick and with the top down that emphasises the '"brick". it looks fabulous. On the other hand, the E type coupe is perfume for the eyeballs. In contrast the roadster looses its feminine curves. Basically it looks like a dildo!!!!!!!

    Can I ask a general question..........I have heard it said that the clutch in a TR6 is "heavy", but just how heavy is it? Is it heavy in that driving it is a chore or just heavy compared to similar contemporary vehicles.....the MG BGT for example.

    • @SteveDentonClassics
      @SteveDentonClassics  4 роки тому

      Compared with an MGB the TR6 clutch is very heavy, but it's like anything, if you use the car a lot you get used to it 👍

      It's not AS heavy as you may think. I learned to drive stick in a TR6, and got the finesse down after a few tries and stalls. Anything with a competition level clutch is heavier from my small experience.
