My daughter will be showing a goat for her first time. I’m being told by another parent we should use Alfalfa hay. I’d appreciate your advice and knowledge.
I'm curious if you feel like you get better returns for twice a day feeding as opposed to once a day, or is it just about what the goats will eat in a single sitting. You mentioned that you hand feed the young weanling does, do you feed them one at a time or do you tie them out/something else? Looking forward to seeing your sale day videos.
Goat has a super high metabolism and if you feed once a day they would be hungry at the end of the day because they will run out of nutrition from the feed you feed them. What we mean when Brooke said hand feed is we stay in the pen with them and make sure they all get their share of the feed some of the older groups we just dump the feed in and go. Hope that helps.
@@LetsTalkGoats Ah I totally should have known that about their metabolism. I have been feeding a pelleted ration once daily in the evening, with free hay the rest of the time, but I'm going to try twice a day for sure. Thank you so much for the great answer and video.
You probably don’t own a wether, but I’ll ask anyway lol curious if you would feed a wether the same as a buck? Both my doe and wether get 2 lbs a day. But hearing you feed your bucks 4 lbs for growing is making me wonder if I should feeding him more (he’s almost 1 yr)
Two questions if it’s a project wether you need to give him a pound to a pound and half feed twice a day and it should be what he can clean up in 5 minutes if just a pet it just need to be enough to keep him looking good.
@@LetsTalkGoats thank you! That’s very helpful. He’s just a pet. He was a project, but no longer. Weight wise he is looking good and muscular, but I may go ahead and up him just a tad more than the 2 lbs a day. His sister is definitely fatter than he is with just the 2 lbs. I just never thought about feeding girls and boys differently until your video. Thank you!
Yes it does have a little lol it has really helped our does with weight especially after kids and kids seem to be growing out good with it! I haven't tried what yall use I may see if I can get some in my area

Is it for a doe or Wether??
If a doe a good grass/alfalfa mix is good we just use a grass hay. If a Wether a hard full every few days at the most.
You have to tell to your daugther 🐐🐐🐐

How much do you feed your show weathers? Do you use the same feed for them?
We feed them the same as we do the rest only thing we do different is we give them a set time to clean it up then it is taken away
Is kalambach feed good
You only can feed the best you can find near you
Can a rotary cutter be used to harvest goats food?
I don’t see why not
@@LetsTalkGoats I was thinking on the fact that rotary cutter "destroys" vegetation and our goats wouldn't like it so
Have yall tried the meiss feed?
No we have not I know people that feed it.
Actually my wife reminded me we have. She said it had lots of molasses and she didn’t like it.
Yes it does have a little lol it has really helped our does with weight especially after kids and kids seem to be growing out good with it! I haven't tried what yall use I may see if I can get some in my area
Can you send me a similar feeding like yours????
You can look up what’s in the Lowe’s at Lowespellets.com
