Just a small pedantic correction, Belmont is a mast rather than a tower. Masts are guyed and towers (such as say the full concrete one at Emley Moor or 4-leg steel type at Crystal Palace) are self-supporting, If readers Google "inside Belmont transmitting station pictures", they will see a few pictures of the mast erection as well as images of former transmitters and a walk through some of the station's early radio and tv history.
@@CalmBiker If you go to Emley, the nearby Holme Moss is also worth a visit and is right next to the A6024 road where you can stop next to the Mountain Rescue team and a spectacular view at 1719 ft above sea level!
Now that is a BFT! :D That is taller than the tallest hill in the South of England! Really awesome explore and learn series mate, enjoyed all of these! :-)
Great video,I’ve been to the Belmont transmission tower- mast where you where parked many years ago,I can remember it being at its full height and you could see it lit up sometimes coming off the Humber bridge into Barton upon humber and it looked about 10 miles away…I was fascinated by the height of it😊
Mendlesham mast in Suffolk is really close to A140, quite a close view. Almost identical in design, but only 300 meters tall. When built in 1959 was tallest in Europe, then others came that were obviously taller. I think that my local mast at Tacolneston was part of the same group of masts built shortly after Mendlesham.
Love that Mast.... never fails to impress me whenever I head off to 'The Lincolnshire Wolds' for a ride on The Versys. Some pretty little villages to ride thru and country lanes to enjoy that way too.
It’s a big one, especially compared to my current local transmitter, Tacolneston, which I can see from my house. You can get closest to Belmont from Caistor high street.
Bikes and radio all good! I was down at M61 between J6 and J8 (Rivington services) today and got an eyeful of the Winterhill transmitter... I'd love to stand at the base of these things!! M3VRS
I have one of those weirdly shaped tanks that the Givi bags won't fit unfortunately. I use a backpack that's also a bit bigger than a small tank bag would allow.
I do believe my dad took me to see this many many years ago when I was but a sprog, the first thing I notice is how different the weather is compared to now, just a few degrees warmer then by the looks of it, do you have any idea why they reduced the height, another interesting video buddy, RSM8.
@@CalmBiker hit me up on Facebook and we can arrange a time and day, I'll bring lights so we can see down there. If u wanna get a preview I did do a video on it
Anglia to Yorkshire, 1974 was a turbulent year.
:-D

You got me there :-)
Emley Moor is another one I'd like to visit. I will be doing that google too, thanks!

@@kevinmobile It is indeed. We went past it on a five day tour last year and stopped off for the view. It's on my list of places to visit and video.

Thanks H-D. It is a huge mast. There's another I want to visit that's smaller but completely different - Emley Moor.
Can't wait for the vid! :-)

I remember the same. The thing is so big that it seems much closer.

I may have to pop past next time I'm down there. Apparently I could have got closer to Belmont. I should have checked a map after all!

Me too. Those roads are great too. It's about the only thing in view for long enough when you are really enjoying the roads ;-)
Can see the lights from nottinghamshire most evenings on my way to work near Gainsbrough.
It's an impressive structure!

I've not been to that one but looking on Google Earth, it does look like you can get very close to it indeed.
Belmont mast is very tall at 351.7 metres only behind Skelton mast in Cumbria at 365.5 metres, it was 387 metres but it was shortened in 2010

I use a Givi tank bag with a quick release fitting for my camera on an MT10, works well.

It was during the digital switchover. If I'd have been in charge I'd have stuck a big pole on the top to keep the record :-D
Do you happen to know why it was given a haircut in 2010?
According to the BBC, it was for the digital switchover.
@@CalmBiker Ah, I'd forgotten about that. Thanks for checking.
U should have gone down into the nuclear bunker (listening post) whilst u were there, it's just over the road and open 😉👍
I'll have to look that one up. I didn't know there was one there!
