I feel Victoria might be a bit sensitive. Her appearance resembles someone of mixed race, but I had a high school classmate with a similar look, and no one ever commented on how well she spoke Cantonese. As for myself, my Chinese teacher and a senior manager once praised my ability to pronounce advanced Chinese vocabulary, but I’ve also encountered unkind individuals, even among Chinese people. Victoria, stay confident and proud. Ignore unpleasant people, focus on your goals, and you’ll naturally attract positivity. However, your Japanese friends were speaking so loudly it startled me. If I were at the next table, I’d definitely have glanced over.
This episode is one of the best in the channel since this episode is so much in-depth sharing. The cultural impact and adaptation of foreigners surviving in HKG is facinating. We have to jump the hurdles before we can stand on our own feet. Life is all about stiving! Keep it up guys.
I think when they comment the female host's cantonese is quite good which means it is a "real good" given she has a foreign face. It is not a discrimatory statment. And we should also note that Chinese are normally more conservative in languages.
I would like to share my thoughts with the UA-camr regarding David and Victoria's statements about their life and experiences in Hong Kong. Their comments make it seem as if they lived in Hong Kong during the 1960s or 1970s, but the video clips don’t appear that old. Korean movies began gaining popularity in the mid-1990s, followed by the rise of K-pop a few years later. David and Victoria moved to Hong Kong when they were around 4 to 6 years old. At that age, adapting to different countries and societies should have been relatively easy, except in places with very strict cultures. Chinese people are generally among the most appreciative and respectful towards other nationalities. For instance, if you speak broken Chinese, most people will be patient and value your effort. I believe the majority of Hong Kong people would have welcomed you. Any challenges likely stemmed from the mindset and education you received from your families, as you were very young at the time. I have been living in the UK for 25 years. Why not try living here to experience subtle discrimination? For example, if your English had a foreign accent or was at the same level as your Cantonese, British people might struggle to understand you and respond with funny or dismissive expressions. Lastly, I noticed that David's Cantonese accent is the only one with a genuine Hong Konger tone. The other gentleman seems to have learned Cantonese as a second language, and I truly appreciate his effort.
Looking at theses folks, remind me of my younger days in HK in the 90s, I figured so early that if I don’t speak Cantonese I won’t be able to work or join the locals in their lunch conversations 😂, so watched lots of local TVB programs and learnt my Cantonese from TV drama and News. I’ve never learnt Cantonese formerly but today Cantonese is my most comfortable language, used to be an English native, but speaking Cantonese with my HK wife for more than 20 years, I feel my English is so bad now, and have to relay on my daughter to help me with English 😂. The topics all three of them discussed resonate well with my younger days. Further problem for me is that I look Chinese and the struggle to get someone to speak to you in English in the 90s, even get told off by some old men when I ordered foods in English, 中國人唔識講中文comments 😢
Being in HK, you need to learn both. Am glad that I went to school in HK first and then migrated abroad later on. Still connect to the Chinese language when abroad. You need to keep some of your parents roots, no matter how tough it is. Whether it's cooking the cuisine, sing in those songs. Or repeat their habits.

其實你哋已經講廣東話講得好好，唔要太過執著，其實由你原國家出生國藉去另一國家而得國藉而同你原本自己出生國家國藉係冇沖突，問題而你身處地方生活有冇歸屬感，最緊要你身處地方生活俾都你舒服安全安穩或觸動都你嗰一刻感覺令到想留喺都生活歸屬感，還有令都你做返自己感覺，唔需要理身邊人點睇自己，你哋香港生活要加油，遇到任何事都唔好棄要堅持落去，遇到任何事都有解決方法💪💪💪👍👍👍

三位香港人，推介美食
我以下講嘅嘢就基本上同香港冇關，但係就同身份認同有關。我係個馬來西亞華人，父母係華人，身邊自細都係華人多，多到20歲讀大學之前身邊周圍9成係華人，自己亦係讀華校，講中文大。咁嘅家庭背景同環境長大嘅人一般嚟講理應唔會有身份認同嘅問題，要100%融入周圍嘅環境應該係理所當然嘅事，但我事實上就唔係咁。由於自己自細嘅興趣多數都係啲冷門嘢，又鍾意去認識同自己長大認識嘅文法唔同嘅文化，兼夾非常自我唔會為咗融入乜乜圈子而特登做啲自己唔鐘意做嘅嘢，搞到我無論去到邊到好難真係搵到同類同好，好易感覺似個過客，永遠係個outsider。
所以Sokoさん話睇人最終都係要睇人內面而唔係淨係靠外部分類，我係真係好有感。呢幾位自細又好家下都好都係跨文化嘅背景成長生活嘅本土化外國人自然唔洗講，其實好多土生土長一直都係本地生活嘅本地人都係有類似嘅outsider經歷，甚至身份認同障礙。呢啲問題真係唔係跨文化嘅群體獨有嘅嘢，所以都係個句，好好地去睇人內面真係好重要！
其實是文化探討的內容, 感動。
