An idea for next time: You could make the real life dress that matches the doll's. A side by side and differences in the processes would be amazing!

Hi there. Do it Do it Do it! A nice blue dress that is after 5 look. You don't have to go as small as the wedding dress, Barbie size is just fine. I have got to see it. Please make them PLEASE! By the way can make it out of velvet!? So sorry for being so demanding. Looking forward to seeing them if you dare. See ya later sweetie. Stay safe out there. Take care and God bless.

    Love this!
I used to make dresses like this for my dolls when I was a kid. Not barbies but stuff like second hand Rose Petal Place and MLP Megans - which were roughly the size of your dressform. I used fabric scraps that I found (and sometimes Kleenex!) and used hairspray to keep the pieces in place. I work as a civil designer now but love to design as a hobby

That math part was amazing to hear. I too failed algebra. I crochet and have to calculate how much yarn or string I need to make a piece. Stitch ratio to form is a must, BTW: I've also been doing my own taxes since I was 18 as a single parent, it helped me earn extra money during tax season. Later in life I became a successful production manager...numbers were a necessity there too. You hit it right on the nose, if you're doung something you love, the math part will come naturally.

I feel like there's a difference between practical math and practically applying it vs school math and school math problems.
I'm a bomb-ass business student but fuck highschool math classes man. 😅

@@Gingersnaps_the_pumpkin_kitty agreed. I’m a sociology student and an artist (I bring this up because it demonstrates that I am a visual learner, but am in a stats based degree), and there’s a massive difference between things like stats based math, like inequalities and matrices, geometry, shit like that. I feel the issue is tangibility, as opposed to learning method. Like, if you’re not able to put your finger on what this skill set would be used for in real life, and in tandem with learning methods (like if you’re a visual learner, as opposed to a verbal learner, and a text based learner). Like what the fella said; if you’re learning something for something you love to do, it helps gap that bridge on tangibility. At least, that’s what I’ve understood, don’t take this as 100% fact

My grandmother loved miniatures. A coworker made her a dollhouse when she was in her mid 60"s. She and I spent hours redoing the rooms when I would visit. There was even a yearly miniature show at a local event center that *we would buy things for the dollhouse or just to have. I was in dance, she had a miniature tutu, point shoes, hanger, tiara, and coat rack in a glass case (like Belle's rose). I have the doll house and still have my ballerina costume. And of course my memories w her.

My precious maternal grandma (who was born in 1893, may she rest in peace) made dresses and suits for my Barbie doll when I was a child back in the 1960s. Sadly, I lost all of those precious outfits when my mother (may she also rest in peace) threw out everything I had stashed in the basement of my childhood home when I moved out, after the basement flooded 3 feet deep.
My grandma made the most gorgeous tailored mint green boucle suit for my 1958 Barbie (the one with the short golden-blonde bubble/helmet hair). Miraculously, that doll was NOT in the basement when it flooded, and I still have it to this day. I also have Barbie’s white plastic dressing table with working drawer and attached oval mirror, bench, and red shag rug from that era. I cherish them and the wonderful memories they carry.
I would pay you to recreate that suit for my Barbie doll. Would you consider that?
I absolutely adore you, Gunnar. Keep up the great work and fabulous videos. You have inspired me to start sewing again.

I sewed dresses for my sister's Barbie and loved the challenge of fit and doing tiny hand sewn stitches. Then I was told I was too old to be playing with dolls. Is it any wonder that having had my play truncated, that today I have no sense of style or color?

Professional designers or tailors who are used to working on bigger forms find it hard to work on miniatures.
I started on with miniature clothings and I can remember how my mum used to say that she can't understand why I make miniatures clothings when it's so difficult to work on. But I found it easier, and at times more budget friendly, coz I couldn't afford to buy too much fabric and spend it on dresses which I'm not gonna wear.
On the other hand, you can find extra fabrics to design anything in small scale. Sometimes, you just go to tailor shops, and ask them to give you scrape fabrics for free. This is a fantastic way to explore your creativity for beginners, who don't have the budget yet, and trains you for the future.

I love your videos. You're so much more experienced and talented than I'll ever be. Your videos and designs have been a real joy
A general tip I was told when I started sewing miniature clothes for Barbie dolls (mostly Barbie Looks dolls) was to respect the scale by keeping to finer (thinner) fabrics when sewing multiple layers. Also, watch areas like sleeves and waistbands. Too much bulk in these areas on a 6 or 12 inch doll can ruin the look.
Please do more of the doll sewing but I would personally love it if you used the good old, all-American Barbie as your model. Thank-you. ❤

    Challenges ideas. Let me think.
•Replicas of the wedding dresses Disney princesses wear in their animated films and books
    •Dress inspired by a pheonex
•Make up a superhero and create something for him/her to wear. Try to make it unique and fit it his/her personality and his/her powers, abilities, and skills. See if you can outdo Edna Mode.
•Outfit for a steampunk pirate that is young, very good at math (especially probility), funny, has two dogs and a cat, for her crew, timid around new people at first, is so bad at pirating that the reward offered for her capture is a penny, lost her parents in a Bermuda Triangle in the sky formed by a hurricane, built her own blimp out of spare parts, and can be a bit of a fangirl.
•Create an animal inspired dress of your choosing.
•Create an inexpensive dress that could be worn in a masquerade ball.
•If there was a civilization in Antarctica, what kind of clothes would somebody wear?
•Create an outfit for a book character
Just a few suggestions. I look forward to whatever you do next.

A moment in Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland that always bugged me was when the Hatter made a tiny dress for shrunken Alice: The dress in his normal-sized hand was stiff and hard, since the fabric was cut so small, but once the scene cut to her wearing it, obviously the real dress on the actress was actually flowing and airy. I thought making tiny realistic clothing was impossible but you managed to create a dress that still looks flowy and light, something real and tangible. I had thoughts of a tiny fairy wearing this wedding dress and it's such a beautiful visual. I love what you do!!

I'm just in awe of how detailed this dress is even though it is miniature model. Now you HAVE to make life size version. And I have to say that room was also perfection. Your friend is very talented. I remembered making architecture models in college.

As a miniaturist I was all up in this! I have a miniature iron and we find crazy tools and have to think outside the box. I love the dress! Great job!

I love your openness and honestly through this process. So many channels only should the end product that is successful. Even though your dress was so amazing in the end, I really loved seeing your process and it inspired me. Thank you.

I love this video! My hobby is sewing ooak Barbie dresses so I made a recreation of my husband and I dressed in our wedding gear to sit on a special table on our reception. As difficult as the dress was, I gotta say his suit was one of the hardest things I have ever done! Tailoring men’s clothing on such a small scale is damn near impossible! Talk about pressing seams flat and beautiful! Haha!

I relate to what you said about math. I convinced myself at school that I'll never be good at it, plus I thought it was boring and uncreative. But I'm now learning it again as an adult, and I see now there's a lot of creative uses for math.
