Just ordered your book. Been a huge fan of Fred Neil since a dear friend of mine introduced me to his work many years ago. Can’t wait for it to arrive! Cheers
Really want to hear that whole song. Never heard it before. Can't find it anywhere. Can you tell us where you can find that Peter? Your book is amazing by the way. Just got it yesterday.
Hello, Sopranofan11. Thank you for buying the book and I sincerely hope you enjoy it. This recording of Fred doing his version of the old gospel tune "I'm on My Way (to Canaan Land)" is a private recording and, as far as I know, not available on the internet. At some point down the line, I hope to interest a record company in some of these unreleased recordings by Fred I know about. I did initiate a record project of a jam between Fred and Peter Childs recorded in 1964 by Peter during the Bleecker & MacDougal sessions. It should be out this fall on Mark Linn's Delmore Recording Society label. It's a terrific rare recording, and in the context of popular rock 'n' roll music history, important. By the way, I maybe the only person in America who has never watched The Sopranos.
@@calico1947 Wow. Thanks for your quick and thorough response. That's awesome. I hope to hear that someday if possible. I'm continuing to enjoy the book. Absolutely glued to it. I'm sure I'll finish it within a few days. Never knew his real last name was Morlock. The Sopranos interestingly is where I first became aware of Fred Neil. The Dolphins was used in the episode The Ride. It was so hauntingly beautiful I remember instantly being struck by it downloading the song shortly after. Years later I explored the rest of his music and have since been in awe of the man. I was always curious to know more about him and your book is the quintessential place for that. One last question Peter. Will you release the full video interviews of Fred's friends talking about Fred at some point? Would love to see those in their entirety. Thanks again for your awesome work.
@@sopranosfan11 I'm a little late in responding-three years late. Yikes! First, you're welcome and thanks for the recognition. I've been busy writing a companion piece to THAT'S THE BAG I'M IN : The Life, Music and Mystery of FRED NEIL. Don't know if there's an interest in this book, but I've enjoyed writing it. As far as a video of the interviews goes, I have an hour and fifty minute rough-cut documentary finished. I have no idea what to do with it since I don't have the rights to the music, live performances, and some ephemera used in the film. Lastly, I finally watched the entire Soprano series with my wife and we enjoyed it. As far as the use of "The Dolphins" is concerned, I'm certainly pleased that it was used in that particular episode since it was high-profile showcase and I'm sure made more people aware of this exceptional recording, song, and artist. The only thing that holds me back from giving it full out hosannas and hallelujahs, is it's connection with drug use and specifically heroin in the film.

@@calico1947Dude that was you?!! I loved 38. MacDougal
@@BRUH-ot9hh Yes. So glad you liked 38 MacDougal which was Mark Lynn and Delmore Records who produced it and saw the project through to completion.
