  • No sharks today but we are always looking. Shark river is a tidal river in Belmar, NJ so it must be dived at slack tide. Water temp 65°F/18°C. Max Depth around 22'/7M. Visibility was amazing (not typical) on this day and we saw lots of life including a clear nose skate, lots of fluke, spot fin butterflies, seabass and black fish. Yes, sometimes you can dive in NJ and be rewarded with clear blue water and lots of live.

Shark river NJ has I direct link to the ocean so it is very common for sharks to be in the river at any given time there have been many species of sharks spotted in shark river NJ such as blue sharks, mako shark, and thresher sharks I know this as fact because I live in Belmar NJ very close to shark river

Wow lots of critiquing! Our Jersey waters are actually very beautiful and the beaches are clean and a pleasure to visit (albeit ridiculous to have to pay to get on). Thank you so much for representing and giving us a view from under the surface, great video!

July 12, 1916 wasthe afternoon that a7-8 foot long bull shark or young Great White Shark killed an 11-year-old boy and the 24-year-old man who tried to recover his body in Matawan Creek, a brackish body of water about 2 and a half miles from the open waters of Raritan Bay. It's a cinch that there were LOTS of sharks in Shark River that year.

It’s amazing how clear the water is compared to the 80s! Manasquan, Spring Lake, Brielle since I was a kid! Down the shore has come along way as far as the pollution. The water anyway, the land is a different story

I cant believe how clear the water is. Water in New York bight is usually murky because of upwelling of colder water from the continental shelf which flows towards the shore bringing nutrients.

Each summer around August the spot fin butterflies appear. They get washed up in the gulf stream. Other topicals show up also but the spot fins are abundant on most of the sites. They look very out of place.

Wow.....this is My State, that's the Inlet I've frequented more than any other! You're just across from an old USCG Station, and some quite decent Viz underwater!!
I dove in once from a pier near Klein's with just goggles....the tide was Fierce!!! I knew it was a Tidal river, bu....I didn't stay long!! Just long enough to photograph some small sea life with seaweed covering so much of the bottom. Any other time, I've been on a fishing boat or my Kayak.
Nonetheless, my FIRST ever NJ Shore #SweetSpot!!

I'm sure you find quite a few bull sharks in that River in New Jersey just like you find a lot of them in estuaries in Florida Alabama Mississippi Louisiana. I mean they could travel all the way up Mississippi River hang a right on the Missouri then eventually hit the Tennessee River go through all the locks and make it to Lake Guntersville where I live for 8 years in Northeast Alabama which is part of the Tennessee River the reason why I'm saying this is cuz we find a bull shark about 10 years ago in Lake Guntersville. I didn't actually find it but somebody did but they didn't think it was from an aquarium. But of course it's too cold for sharks to exist up there in the winter time it would be too cold for an alligator as well even though they found alligators in North Central Alabama. But hell I mean I've heard of bull sharks being in the Great Lakes making it all the way from the Atlantic Ocean over to there. Those are some very stoic determined and aggressive sharks. They have an amazing ability to adapt
