I have always felt Jonathan Kent’s death was hard for Superman because it’s easy to save someone from a falling building or stop some muggers but not saving someone from a natural cause of something that kills people everyday is the hardest.
That’s part of why Jonathan’s death in Man of Steel feels so contrived for many people, because Clark could have actually saved him from the tornado, and the only thing preventing him from doing so was his concern for the greater good.
@@V34035 Bruh tf you on about? That's exactly what Clark's supposed to be like. Having him be dark and gritty like in the DCEU is a massive disservice to what he is.

EVERYTHING about Superman is corny. And you know what? This show is actually so much more mature than recent movie adaptations, where the only dark thing is that the director turned down the luminosity to 20%.
"Eventually, I moved to Metropolis, to become who I was meant to be." Followed by "Here you are, friend." Those two lines, coupled with the orchestration in the background...I can't stop smiling.
This is probably the perfect opening scene for any CW show. Gives us an abridged version his origin, the essentials like how he proposed to Lois and his children coming to be, and subtly confirming it’s still part of the Arrowverse.
@@nyrplayer It's the OG Superman from EARTH-37, now alive and well on EARTH-Prime after Oliver's sacrifice to bring all destroyed earths of the multiverse on one earth
In the age where everybody wants dark gritty and “realistic” adaptations comes this beautiful show. Love Henry cavil as Superman but Tyler Hoechlin is in my eyes the best Superman. Superman represents what people should aspire to be; good natured, kind hearted, compassionate and honest. There’s a reason he’s called the man of tomorrow and I believe this show is one of the best adaptations to show that
I also prefer a Clark Kent who is a little bit goofy but when he's Superman, he's not. A Clark Kent who acts like a Superman-hiding-in-a-human, as in he's still as serious or non-clumsy as Superman really is, is actually not that interesting.
Yeah, I love that it's a reversal of that original comic. Instead of lifting a car full of gangsters into the air, he gently lowers a car full of innocent people to the ground. That tells you so much about this version of Superman. He's not a fighter; first and foremost, he's a rescuer.
My wife and I have twin boys, six years old. When they were about to be born, I had to send them to a distant city, because there was no ICU bed for two premature babies in my town. One of them was born a cardipath, Fallot tetralogy. The other, at the age of two, was diagnosed with autism. Seeing this beautiful opening sequence reminded me that even a superpowered being like Superman would have the same problems as us. And that I have two fantastic kids, my own superboys.

That is fantastic my parents have all girls and all of us have Autism, including this woman (me) who is at uni at medical school right now. My father is my superhero
This is honestly EVERYTHING I love about Superman and Clark Kent. Superman isn't about punching Zod or Luthor or Batman in the face or about throwing bombs into the sun, he's about saving individual people and always looking out for the little guys. And Clark Kent is a sweet, humble man
@@harshpherwani6590 Exactly I think it’s great to show him really strong because it shows that with all this power that could split the earth in half if he so wished he chooses to be kind and help humanity.

Thank you! This is key. Clark's father dies from something he CANNOT prevent. That's part of the psychology and I personally think any half way decent Superman portrayal should tap into that. For all the power in the world, there are things he CANNOT change. He will lose or be severely challenged by those he loves. That is what causes a superhuman to grow and NOT be invincible. They face emotional consequences from living life and having relationships like the rest of us.
I actually kinda agreed with MOS. Jonathan Kent was willing to sacrifice himself in order to protect his son. He knew that the world wasn't ready for Superman. He was right as Bruce Wayne wanted to kill him. Bruce saw him as a threat to Earth and by killing him Bruce would have actually done something meaningful as the criminals were easily replaced. Superman doesn't have some "super" tragic life story like pretty much all the other superheros. That's what gives other superheros drive to protect. The reason why superman is my favorite character is because he simply chooses to protect, even with God like power. They nailed that show. Hope they can keep it up tho.
Thats the thing. Clark is supposed to represent a regular guy, with a normal life and job, who just also happens to have powers, and wants to be a good person and make the world better. That's it. It's not very complicated.

I love this change their making with Superman in this show and Spiderman in the games. We've seen the origin stories a thousand times and its way more interesting to see the older versions of the characters.
In under 5 minutes, we feel Clark's grief at the loss of his father. In under 5 minutes, we're endeared to his awkwardness, especially how head over heels in love he is. In under 5 minutes, we get a sense of an entire love story. In under 5 minutes, we feel like a part of his family, both its ups and downs. In under 5 minutes, we learn not only Superman's origins but who Clark Kent is. This is the power of well-crafted filmmaking and beautiful writing; that we can feel for and understand a character so much and so deeply under 5 minutes.
To me thats really kind of the essence of Superman this actor seems to capture that samekind of innocence as Christopher Reeves had with his Superman in the 70s. This is something as cool as Henry Cavil's Superman looked, he seemed to greatly lack.

To me, this is how you do Superman. Some dork kid raised on a farm in rural American who also happens to be one of the strongest beings in the DC Universe. People need to stop removing Clark Kent from this character, Superman is not Clark Kent. Clark Kent is Superman because Clark Kent comes first and is where the personality and virtues of this character come from
This is so true. I also noticed in this clip that socially-awkward stream-of-thought style of speech when he met Lois that's reminiscent of Clark from the original Superman films; I think it makes him more endearing as a character. Really looking forward to watching this!
People always tend to think Superman is just this ultra strong, boring guy who just punches people in the face. They always forget he's not even the costumed hero: he is Clark Kent. A regular guy from Kansas, raised on a farm, with great abilities, but that only wants to do the right thing. The whole point of Superman is that he's not human, and yet, he's the most human of all.

Here after the epilogue and I feel like I saw Clark Kent's entire life, a life full of Joy, Hope, forgiveness, wonder, friendship, family and love. As someone who grew up watching Superman and reading his comic books The one thing I’ve always loved about the character of Superman was that although he could do all these amazing wonderful things, he never thought of himself as better than anyone else. Although a fictional character we can all learn from that.

I'm not big on the CW heroes. So when I clicked on this video, my expectations weren't very high. But this short sequence was amazing. So warm, emotional, and optimistic. Gonna give the show a shot, hopefully they are able to maintain that spirit throughout the series.

After the finale, why is this series so good as a whole? The same reason why this prologue, and now... the epilogue is SO good: this series show how good a beautiful functional family is. This series as a whole is great because IS REAL. Is a beautiful believable family drama in wich the father just happens to be superman. And as a person who studied the effects entertainment media have on people i say undoubtedly that the world needs more series and movies like this. That shows the beauty of family, of the marital committed love, the brotherly love, the parental and son/daughter love altogether in a functional family where there's mutual respect and love among all. The feeling this series gives, specially the ending, is "is good to have a family, and i want to have it, i wanna get married and have children" and makes us desire the beauty of having someone beside us forlife who helped us raise our children (like clark and Lois with heir sons), instead of the "sex drugs and rokn roll" that today's "feel good, do it" and anti-family hedonist society prioritizes, WE NEED MORE SERIES LIKE THIS, THAT GIVES THIS FEELING! And yes, this last statement was controversial but i don't give a crap... They shape ppl more ways than most realise. If we had more series that portrays the beauty of a family in loving relationships and how they shape us for the better, ppl would value it, when is almost DEvalued in today's "feel good do it" age (where virtues like discipline and sacrifice and giving up on your desires for others are almost seen as self loathing). Lastly, and nothing's gonna change my mind about this. NOTHING IS EVER GONNA TOP THIS PORTRAYAL OF SUPERMAN! THIS IS NOT GOLD, IS FLAT OUT DIAMOND!
That was Jonathan TEACHING Clark to ONLY use his powers when he truly knows his purpose and can preserve his secret from the world. Jonathan's sacrifice here was deliberate. One of the main issues I have with a lot of modern Superman content is some writers/directors try so hard to make Superman realistic or make his appearance cooler (I want those trunks back damn it!!) or make Superman seem edgier. But that scene in his classic suit was spot on. Cheerful, friendly, down to Earth despite being an Alien, and honestly the "My Mom made it for me" represents all of that. It makes the most powerful hero on the planet seem so relatable and human that you forget he is an alien, and the fact he is so happy when someone compliments his mother's handiwork just says it all. In his first appearance, he instantly gives off a vibe that this is a man you can trust and rely on, that there really isn't a bad bone in his body. This is Superman, plus I really hope to see the retro suit again in some more flashbacks, it looks great!!

@@anurb.s.c.anurb.s.c.2329 Yeah, it's just a post-crisis change, along with the many other major changes. The whole show is filled with massive ones. For one, they had an infant son during Crisis, yet somehow now have two teenage boys. Which means Lois and Clark got married and had kids wayyy sooner than originally, or the show takes place into the future. The latter of which is probably less likely. Another change is that Sam Lane is a new actor, and is aware of who Clark is, and not antagonist towards Superman. On Supergirl, he didn't know who she or Clark were, and he was pretty antagonistic towards aliens. Though some things didn't change post-crisis, such as the Smallville farm set, and the suit with trunks on the outside, which got mentioned in a flashback episode of Supergirl a few years ago.

There’s a reason he’s called the man of tomorrow and I believe this show is one of the best adaptations to show that
Remember all those joyful, heartfelt, uplifting movies back in the day? I do.
Brandon did good too. "Hope is the light that lifts us out of darkness."
And his boy scout attitude perfectly captures superman and his ideals as a person rather than an alien
I also prefer a Clark Kent who is a little bit goofy but when he's Superman, he's not.
A Clark Kent who acts like a Superman-hiding-in-a-human, as in he's still as serious or non-clumsy as Superman really is, is actually not that interesting.
Leave the dark, gritty and realistic to batman. Superman is an immovable paragon of hope
1:20 The fact that’s it’s a green car too, just like Superman’s debut way back, that’s awesome! This entire scene is the best!
That's attention to detail, huh.
Not only that, but the costume he wears is a reference to the 1940s max fleischer's Superman cartoon.
Yeah, I love that it's a reversal of that original comic. Instead of lifting a car full of gangsters into the air, he gently lowers a car full of innocent people to the ground. That tells you so much about this version of Superman. He's not a fighter; first and foremost, he's a rescuer.
They also used a PT Cruiser to give it the right mix of old and new.

That's right. Superman is about inspiring hope.

Just came full circle to this one after seeing the finale. Tears 😢
After the finale, why is this series so good as a whole? The same reason why this prologue, and now... the epilogue is SO good:
this series show how good a beautiful functional family is.
The fact that his dad died from something he actually had no way of saving him from is good. Always hated that fucking scene in man of steel
It only works from the Perspective of Jonathan didn't think Clark was ready to face the world. But it robs so much from the character in the process.
That was Jonathan TEACHING Clark to ONLY use his powers when he truly knows his purpose and can preserve his secret from the world. Jonathan's sacrifice here was deliberate. The world is NOT YET ready to know the existence of a super being. And with Clark's powers at the level they're at...he cannot save Jonathan and not expose his secret.
@@victorpradha9946 It's just frustrating to watch because you know he's physically capable of saving him lol. I can understand where Jonathan comes from, he wants to protect his son. I just can't imagine standing there and watching my parent die despite basically being a god that could quite easily intervene and put a stop to it. The heart attack scene almost works better because it shows Clark there are some things he cannot stop, no matter how strong he may be.
@@samsonitejohnson7456 so...the 2 dozen people behind him wouldn't see this 17 year old run to save his dad from a tornado? Also, it wasn't even established that Clark had superspeed yet. This is how you know the Tyler is perfect for this role. He's wearing the original comic book version of the suit and he doesn't look ridiculous

The goofy Clark Kent. That’s the one thing that I missed that they didn’t do with Cavil. Although I was a huge fan of him as Superman himself...I like this type of Kent better.
Yea i think Synder got Superman personality wrong and kinda rushed the Lois relationship. To me Cavill Superman should been similar to how the Russo's Captain America is personality wise.
To be fair we barely saw Cavill Kent at the Daily Planet at all, despite the ridiculous length of BvS.
i think Cavil plays a better Superman, but this dude plays a better Clark Kent
Snyder sucks at handling dc... He fucked it all up before it really got going.

That's Superman!

That, my friend, is Superman's greatest power. 😊
this is not on a different Earth, or different continuity. Crisis changed things so Clark and Lois have two teenage boys, instead of just one baby boy. Kara is not mentioned more than likely because they want to just focus on Superman's storylines. but outside of that it's already been confirmed by the showrunners that this exists in the same continuity as the rest of the Arrowverse.
I was wondering that... Clark's ship is different from the one that appears in Supergirl
This is still the same character as before, just on a newly merged Earth, with a different history than before. I am surprised the show doesn't bring up at all the confusion he must have felt suddenly having teenage sons when he had a infant son pre-crisis.
